A long exposure of some serious work getting done on a Friday night.
EDIT: added some notes for a little clarification
A nearly complete curve.
Workers replaced track atop the structure around the S-curve at Hubbard Street (just north of the Merchandise Mart station on the Brown & Purple Lines).
Work was largely wrapped up on the curve on this final weekend when the Wells St. Bridge was also closed for construction, consolidating and minimizing inconveniences and improving efficiency on the project.
My mom and I swap trades every now and then. I make her a letterhead and she sews me a work apron. SWEET!
I just made a nice little work space for me in the dining room. We have no extra bedroom's for a craft room, so this works out nicely!
This is a collaborative piece that I am working on with Cynthia Toops. It is a bezel in the shape of a car-- the entire open space in the center will be filled with a Fimo micro mosaic. The theme will be travel and will likely feature a family setting off on vacation.
The next steps for my half of the work include putting findings on the back to make it a brooch (I will make these myself); then adding bumpers, lights, tires, and a luggage rack with luggage on top. I may also add the hardware to allow it to be transformed into a necklace as well.
I am hopeful that when this is finished, it will find a good home.
Voltron helps me out with my duties at work. He guards my desk when I am away and he scares away the Jesus Lady, who believes he is demonic.
Background:
One day, Matt (aka Green Hocker) and I were discussing the huge effect that the 1980's robot-craze had on our lives. There were Transformers, Go-Bots, Johnny-5 (from Short Circuit), Konky & Magic Screen (from Pee-Wee's Playhouse), among others. I told him how I never had a Voltron (I had the Berryessa Flea Market version that broke after the first couple days), and he told me he had one lying around somewhere, and the next day I had a Voltron!
Note: Voltron was recalled in 1986, because of a lead-paint hazard. (Maybe it's a good thing I didn't have one when I was young!)
This is as far as I have come now - I laid them out on the floor just to see what I have going on.... and there are 8 in all now, in varying sizes and drama.
Hmmmm.... what to do?! Giving it quite some thought....

Construction work on St Marks Shopping Centre an open-air retail space built on the site of the former St Marks Railway Station, in Lincoln, Lincolnshire.
In 2017 plans were announced for a £150 million redevelopment by Standard Life Investments, who own the retail park. These include riverside restaurants along the River Witham, a cinema, multi-storey car park, a 130-bed hotel, 1,100 student flats, 150 residential flats and 485,000 square feet of new retail and leisure. It is anticipated to create up to 2,000 jobs and will see the demolition of the some of the current buildings such as Pure Gym, Toys R Us and Pizza Hut.
