It is incredibly unusual to see St. John’s harbour filled with sea ice like this. It was my first time in my 15 years of working downtown. When I arrived in the morning I saw a little bit of open water but by lunch the harbour was jam packed with large pans and chucks of sea ice. I even managed to see a seal pup. It was all very beautiful and exciting. Yeah, I’m a nerd and ice excites me. I love unusual occurrences like this and ice can be, visually and physically, an incredibly powerful force.

I’m snowed in today and I’m hearing rumours that Wednesday may be a snow day as well. I’m seeing everyone is posting images of spring but I’m happily hanging on to winter.

Lots of development work in progress at my backyard. Everyday there is a new scene.

Before the northbound Whittier Freight arrived at Brookman I was able to quickly get a shot of the tied down work train with the remnants of a rainbow in the sky. Unfortunately it was very short lived but nice while it lasted.

Old Iron Work black and white brings out the strong texture in this old iron fence piece, shot in North Carolina.

Working on the thesis requires lots of coffee. In RL, my desk looks much more messier though...

No matter what the weather work go's on. Maintenance on the public path at Parbold.

So cool to see my friends working so well together. I also liked the flying sparks of course. Sylvie (the cat) and I watched them work from behind the tree.

Having a garden is wonderful. Everyone admires it, enjoys the splendour of the flowers and envies you for having paradise on your doorstep.

The only thing is that paradise needs to be mowed, plucked, raked and watered... nobody talks about that.

There's a few more folks who "dressed" up for Halloween . . . more to follow . . .

P.S. I actually brought a bottle of Hawaiian Rum (emptied the content of the bottle & filled it half way with soy sauce) and a "drink" with an umbrella topping but it's not pictured. ;-)

Sometimes filming is precise work and filming takes place in any kind of positions and places,,, no office work.

Actually, I'm not nearly as frazzled as this suggests. Things are going very smoothly, and I'm on number 5 of 8.

Late night last night, but tonight I should be able to get some sleep while the computer does the hard work.

Huzzah!

Everything is a continuous spectrum

im pretty sure that instead of getting better at bringing my ideas to life, im getting worse... its hard to tell, because my ideas themselves, i think, are getting a lot better and a lot more detailed... however i find myself over the past few months feeling scared to shoot my personal work, and really doubting that i can create anything, which is the absolute last thing i want to feel. i havent hardly been shooting personally at all (since march ive only made 3 photos that havent in some way been commissioned), and ive realized its REALLY taking its toll on me - photographically, but also emotionally. creating imagery through my camera is my rock in life and ive been smacked in the face and really reminded of the girl i was before i had that rock, and that girl is the last person i want to be again.

ive decided its time to rest my wings and focus on the important things again. i feel like i go through this same conversation in my head about once every three months, but i never actually do anything about it and each time the feelings get worse. life lessons can be a pain in the butt, but ive finally made a pact with myself to stop booking new paid work after september so i have time to actually try to be the photographer i want to be.

oh yea, also my pro account expired, so apologies for my old stuff disappearing. ill probably scrap together some change and renew soon.

power line stock. ahhh i wish i could have used this better...

- on an added note, i want to say thanks to everyone for all the super nice and encouraging comments, but also wanted to let everyone know that by no means am i stopping or falling any bit out of love with photography! its just a matter of practice, and ever since i began photography ive never spent this little time on my own work! so i feel like that lack of time is holding me back from growing at the same rate and obviously is resulting in less work which i dont like! and i actually think this piece is successful, otherwise i wouldnt have uploaded it... i think its just farther away from what i intended than my earlier stuff, which is a setback! :P -

The chilling testimony on the main gate at Saschsenhausen Concentration Camp, outside Berlin, Germany. This was truly an awful place and we were very subdued having spent half a day there.

I believe it is something everyone should do at some point in their lives.

This is the sink we do what we call "wet sanding" in; basically, sanding sprayed paint off of metal that's been photosensitized, and then etched and filled.

I see this now everyday; quite a turn from working as a supermarket assistant manager. But....the work is fun, the people are great to work with, I get to operate a large camere every day, I get to work with my hands, and best of all: I get my weekends back! Finally, after four years.....

Update 8/4/21: I left this job a few months back and am now working for a company in Owasso, along with some of my former coworkers from this company.

Update 3/12/23: I understand that this company has recently done some interior remodeling, and that this sink may no longer be intact.
