Inside the shop buildings at the East Broad Top Railroad, I found this unique shop light. I can honestly say I WANT ONE! I've now got a new thing to watch out for when I'm out looking for antiques. The shops are truly a time capsule waiting for discovery by the masses.

New research by ODI uncovers a global childcare crisis, with at least 35 million young children left home alone. With more women entering the workforce, mothers often face impossible choices – with many leaving their countries, and often their dependent children, to find work elsewhere.
Elizabeth says she has struggled, but she has not given up. She carries on working to make sure her daughter and family have a better future.

You know the day has ended for the cowboy when you see his saddle & boots on the ground, tucked and ready for the trailer.
The days of the old west seem to have been lost in the concrete jungles most folks work in, but seeing the tools of this cowboys trade tells you one thing - the day was long, the work, hard but the satisfaction of a job well done has been taken to heart.

Used two SB800, one (left) on the ground with a LumiQuest softbox and the other (right) on a stand about 4ft off the ground with a +1ev TN-A1 Gel.

After a long day of work, and dinner at moms I made my rounds home to to the isthmus. As while for some the 4th is reason for a holiday weekend, I have to work. Upon strolling back to my apartment I came across a gentleman with a camera set up in one of my favorite locations to admire the capitol building in all it's glory. I told my friend Joey (who I was on the phone with) that I would have to let him go, as the opportunity to capture a stranger was here. I asked the individual if they were getting any firework shots with the capitol in background, but sadly most of the Madison firework displays were blocked by surrounding buildings. As I explained to him that this was a nice vantage point to just enjoy the view (as I often have photographed from here), I asked if I could take his photo.
At first he was a tad bit shy and nervous it seemed, but I reached out my hand to inform him that I am Chris Collins; a photographer of many strangers. He put out his hand and shook my hand loosely, informing me that he knew that I am the local paparazzi. I smirked, as I asked for his name; "Ryan" to which I replied, "Ryan, with a last name that starts with M?" He acknowledged, so while Ryan and I have never crossed paths before tonight; we have followed each other's photography on Flickr for the better part of at least a year. Apparently my countless self-portraits have given my identity away (thus why I take them).
Ryan moved to Madison to further his education, and currently is taking general classes at Madison College towards a Liberal Arts transfer. With his ultimate hopes to attend the UW, he enjoys his free time taking pictures among other things. Recently Ryan was hired on as a freelance contributor to the photo site/blog fstoppers. Pretty cool really, so hopefully this will help him get himself out there more in the world of photography. He recently had to do some self-portraits for a profile on the page, which given he doesn't like photos of himself; I really hope this photo works out. Heck maybe, if he wants I'll let him use it for the fstoppers account! He was rather surprised at the results a full frame with a good 50mm achieve in near darkness, as his ISO is normally set at 100. Ohh if want to you can check it out his Flickr page Ryan Mense.
It's strange how while you can be total strangers through the web, and then cross paths down the road. This way the world works through people, places, and all sorts of other variables still leaves me speechless. The 100 strangers group is a wonderful place to read up stories, and take in some excellent photography. So even if you're not up for the challenge of catching 100, you might as well stop by and admire the work!

artist brief: The harvest encapsulates the emotional dialogue between people and their cultures. My passion, understanding and respect for bamboo are symbolic to the connections and experiences I have when working on my sculptures. My work is about gracing public and isolated places with sculptures that exude vertical , horizontal and diagonal tension. Exemplifying the natural beauty of Currumbin beach my sculpture will inspire stories that will be exchanged throughout my stay. Sculpture in public places also acknowledges the absence and realisation of what is gone after we leave, reflecting on the ephemeral nature of sculpture.
The siding at Jersey City was the next stop for BR401. I believe FOXY and Tomahawk Railway interchange cars here (or perhaps in Tomahawk proper). I thought they would grab cars off the siding and bring them to Bradley but they did considerable work as they reshuffled the cars. It was a pleasant evening to kick back and enjoy the music of an SD40-2 going about it's moves back and forth. March 28, 2024.
Bandhavgargh, Madhya Pradesh. Rural Indian women do a surprising amount of hard physical labour in the hot sun, from before dawn to late at night. Their colourful and delicate traditional dress seemed to jar with the dirty sweaty work, but they seemed happy enough and engaged in friendly banter with me. They were also at ease with being photographed.
