Just returned from Brazil this afternoon. Lots of pictures on my hard disk from this tropical destination but didn't have the time to go through them yet. So here's one more shot of the Bavarian Forest that I really liked.
One of the most impressive things while visiting the Nature Reserve was that, since the wolves obviously live in an area surrounded by cultural influences, at noon, when the monthly testing of the emergency sirens was going on, the wolves howled along. I can tell you that the sound of a pack of 15, maybe 20 wolves, howling in unison, is something that goes straight down your spine.. Big time!
I've updated my site (see my profile) added a new thing, the 'wildlife diary'. (maybe you’ll have to hit F5 to refresh the site to see it). Of course it's new and there's only February up until now, but I intend to keep this updated, as there are so many pictures I take, in itself maybe not 'Flickr-worthy', but still telling stories about what I experience around me, at home, in my neighborhood, or while travelling, that I would love to share with you.
A wolf in lamb's clothing watches from the tree as the strangers pass by...
Of course you and I know that Hendrix is more lamb than wolf but her cape is so named, and a named cape is something to be feared! <3

I'm having some leave from work this week and of course I had to visit Yorkshire Sculpture Park again :) We love it there so much!

After seeing all of those wonderful recent images of mature Bull Moose in Algonquin Park I decided to take a quick day trip to the park to try my luck. I have other photos of Bull moose but none of mature Bulls during the rut. Unfortunately I did not see any Bulls at all but I did see 3 cows along the highyway 60 corridor.
Despite not seeing any male moose I did come across an animal that I have been hoping to see and photograph in the park for several years. I came across a juvenile Eastern (Algonquin) Wolf ("Canis lycaon"}. This animal was small and rather thin but appeared to have no injuries except a small cut on its cheek.
There is still a lot of debate about whether or not the Eastern Wolf is a separate species, a conspecific with the Red Wolf of the Souteastern U.S. or, a hybrid between the Gray Wolf and Coyotes. Whatever the final scientific upcome is it was still exciting to photograph.

These wolves were in captivity at the Grouse Mountain Wolf Display. They are still loosing their winter coats. The good thing is they're close to where I live so I'm sure I'll go back.

We had the good fortune to observe and photograph a wild Gray Wolf in Jasper national Park, Alberta, Canada at close range for several minutes. I contacted the Park Biologist for information regarding this individual since it was collared and am told that this is Wolf 112, a female from the Sunwapta Pack consisting of 4 adult wolves. There are 6 small wolf packs in the Athabaska Valley of Jasper National Park totaling 22 individuals. More information can be found here: www.jasperenvironmental.org/main-issues/wolf/
Lots of these Wolf Spiders scurrying around the forrest floor today, this is a male about 6mm, the females are larger

Leatherjacket made by Freedomteller
my (way) better half Aradolls surprised me with the #1 from my wishlist. A fully white leather jacket for Liam. Not that he's close to finish (mind the tattoos), this is the cherry on the cake.
Thank you both, Ara & Freedomteller for making this possible <3
had another visit with the wolves today. we went to see them at their home in the mountains.
this one was named "baby bear." she took a special liking to the hub.
baby bear, her mom, and sister came to the wolf rescue after their previous owner beat them with bats and duct taped their muzzles to keep them from howling. he only served 7 months in prison for such a heinous crime. i can't believe how sweet she and her mom were after having suffered so much.

Happy Furry Friday everyone. This is one of the wolves at Wolf Hollow in Ipswich Massachusetts. I think this is Arrow, but I confuse him with Grendel.
