Wolf spiders are members of the family Lycosidae, from the Greek word "λύκος" meaning "wolf". They are robust and agile hunters with good eyesight. They live mostly solitary lives and hunt alone. Some are opportunistic wanderer hunters, pouncing upon prey as they find it or chasing it over short distances. Others lie in wait for passing prey, often from or near the mouth of a burrow.
Wolf spiders resemble Nursery web spiders (family Pisauridae), but they carry their egg sacs by attaching them to their spinnerets (Pisauridae carry their egg sacs with their chelicerae and pedipalps). Wolf spiders have two eyes out of eight that are large and prominent. The eight eyes of the Nursery web spiders are all of approximately equal size.
The Night Safari is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Singapore. Next to the 'day' zoo, the Night Safari offers a chance to view zoo animals at night, when the nocturnal ones are at their most active. Subdued spot lighting near the exhibits gives everyone a chance to see the animals in almost darkness.
There is also a performance that showcases some of the animals and their abilities. This is what the lighting is like before the show begins. Wolves run freely around the stage, making it difficult to pinpoint the exact start of the action.

1st wild wolf sighting. Short story, was out on Hwy 40 looking for Grizzlies and came across a female and 2 cubs and while I was shooting them I heard the wolves. There was another gentleman in front of me and after my shots I went to discuss. While I was shooting two young black wolves behind me, he was shooting the 3 wolves that were in front of him - Mom, Dad, and a young grey wolf.
One of the most incredible 20 minutes of my life, to see two of my favorite species all within 100 yards of each other and me.
Not the best quality as I was simply too excited to concentrate.
I fell in love with this picture I took several years ago with my old point and shoot camera at Longleat Safari park. it remains a firm favourite!
