Denali is one of the best places in the world to see wolves in the wild. Wolves live in packs, usually containing a dominant pair, their offspring, and other non-breeding adults. Wolf packs usually live within a specific territory. These territories range in size depending on how much prey is available, but typically measure 200 to 1,000 square miles. Wolves may travel as far as 30 miles in a day moving along at 5 miles per hour, but can reach speeds of 45 miles per hour for short distances.
A photo I took at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust at one of their visit Wednesdays in September 2016.
As this wolf ran thru the willows in a small drainage, he scared up a surprising number of snowshoe hares. He must have been recently successful with something else as he never once made a move on any of them.
From the area he was in, I suspect he is a member of the Grant Creek Pack.

Standing in the sun and waiting for a treat. I hope you don't mind more wolf pictures, there were so many wolves and all of them so beautiful. I'm just sharing my favorites. At the wolf sanctuary. All photos had to be taken through fencing, but I didn't care I was in photography heaven!
There are a couple of red wolves inside the Woodland Nature Station in Land between the Lakes National Recreation Area.
A red wolf is morphologically a hybrid of a coyote and grey wolf. It is considered one of the rarest species of wolf. In 1980 it was declared extinct in the wild.
On the other hand, "a 2016 study of 28 sequenced canid genomes concluded that red and eastern wolves have sequences that can be explained as resulting from gray wolf-coyote hybridization." (See How do you save a wolf that is not really a wolf? | Science)
