Wolves are stunningly beautiful creatures, even in the rain. I had the huge privilege of having a wolf sniff my hand, through a wire fence, on Wednesday (thank you again, Lillian, for arranging this for us!). It was a memorable and moving experience.
Our Daily Challenge - Pet Portrait
At Davy Crockett Day, we saw this beautiful timber wolf that belonged to a reenactor.
The timber wolf is a sociable animal who lives in a pack of a high hierarchy. Only the dominant male and his female, who form a loyal couple, can reproduce. The wolves hunt in packs, following an actual strategy. They spot their prey (usually a weak, young or old, or sick animal), circle it and then attack. These wolves used to be found all over North America, however with excessive hunting and the destruction of their habitat, their population was reduced in Canada. Nonetheless, the wolf is present in the entire province of Quebec except for the extreme south.

While at first he was shy and wary his confidence with humans is growing and while he isn't comfortable, he isn't so timid of human attention either. One of our largest wolves, he has striking markings and is a most photogenic animal"

Je suis allée au parc aux loups à Merzig, mais mal m'en a pris. Je pensais qu'un matin de semaine il n'y aurait personne, comme la plupart des fois où j'y suis allée. Malheureusement il y avait tout un car avec notamment des enfants turbulents. La combinaison Lewis (mon chien qui m'accompagnait) et enfants est mauvaise, c'est le moins qu'on puisse dire. La responsable du parc nourrissait les loups pour le groupe de touristes et le spectacle était probablement intéressant mais j'ai dû m'éloigner en raison du mauvais comportement de Lewis qui se fâchait plus sur la foule que sur les loups.
I went to the wolf park in Merzig, which wasn't my best idea. I thought that in the morning of a working week there would be nobody. Unfortunately there was a whole bus of tourists including unruly children. The combination Lewis (my dog who accompanied me) and children is bad, it's the least we can say. One of the responsible person of the park fed the wolves for the group of tourists and the show was probably interesting but I had to move away because of the bad behaviour of Lewis who was in fact more angry over the crowd than over the wolves.
A beautiful wolf takes some time to poses for me. I was able to snap about 3 shots before it left. Unfortunately this is another causality of my recent hard drive crash. :( I was in the middle of doing my weakly backup of my computer including all my photography when the hard drive in my laptop died in the process of my laptop crashing it destroyed my backup as well. So I lost my laptop and backup at the same time. I still can’t believe it! Now I have my drive at a data recovery place to see if there is anything they can do and how much it will cost. Advice to anyone using Segate drives be careful they apparently are having a lot of trouble with their firmware. If I can’t get that drive back I will have lost a few of my recent photography photos including my vacation photos in Seattle to Granite Basin Wink. From now on I think I will backup to two different drives and increase my DVD burning. I lost way too much to be acceptable.
