The Wire-tailed Swallow (Hirundo smithii) is a small passerine bird in the swallow family. Swallows are somewhat similar in habits and appearance to other aerial insectivores, such as the related martins and the unrelated swifts (order Apodiformes).
Wire-tailed Swallow breeds in Africa south of the Sahara and in tropical southern Asia from the Indian subcontinent east to southeast Asia. It is mainly resident, but populations in Pakistan and northern India migrate further south in winter.
This species is an uncommon vagrant to Sri Lanka.
This bird is found in open country near water and human habitation. Wire-tailed Swallows are fast flyers and they generally feed on insects, especially flies, while airborne. They are typically seen low over water, with which they are more closely associated than most swallows.
The neat half-bowl nests are lined with mud collected in the swallows' beaks. They are placed on vertical surfaces near water under cliff ledges or more commonly on man-made structures such as buildings and bridges.
The clutch is three to four eggs in Africa, up to five in Asia (Turner and Rose). These birds are solitary and territorial nesters, unlike many swallows, which tend to be colonial.
This striking species is a small swallow at 14cm in length. It has bright blue upperparts, except for a chestnut crown and white spots on the tail. The underparts are white, with darker flight feathers. There is a blue mask through the eye.

A perfect title for this picture. I'm not sure what the wires are for but they are all over the place. It's a typical view of what old Hong Kong apartments look like. This shot was taken on a sunny day with harsh shadows coming from the right but with a little bit of post processing via Aperture 3, the details of the building came out beautifully. The idea of having to post the 'before and after' look of this photo is an interesting idea. Should I open another set for my 'before and after' work?

using some of my leftovers and asome defective cans from montana that worked fine as far as I could tell but were unsellable.
We painted the legal wall first with spare bags of paint for alter for the yard then watched in dismay as it started to rain and then it got heavier and heavier as the day went on until we finally had to pull the proverbial plug on the evening's proceedings thus ruining the one shot we had this trip......woke up to glorious sunshine goddamn it

Yesterday I made a visit to the Gemeente museum Den Haag. There was a great exhibition about Calder his iron wires figures inspired me to make this face. The eyes are made of elements of Mechanika a bought on the flea market on Qeensday.
this is what the wire goes into.. it is deep in those spaces because the wire goes in there to cut all the way through the soap.. the measure ment is the length of the bar (where the lines are) and to show the distance between the bar thing and the end on each side of the mold.. which is 1 1/2 inches.. the round circle? That is for a dowl rod. It's for hold ing the soap from sliding back. My soap is just as wide as the bar thing, and i took them outt.. Of course, i couldn't find them for the picture. I am sure you or your husband could figure out the diameter for you. Also, the height of the dowl rods, was about 2 inches if I remember, maybe 3 because of the height of the soap.. memory is poor..
