The task of installing, testing and repairing communication lines and cable during the war was never-ending. New lines had to be created as an army advanced and existing wires damaged by shellfire and mass movement of troops had to replaced.
Formed in 1912, the Signal Service was attached to the Royal Engineers. They were responsible for communications at the Front, including visual (lamps, heliograph and flags), telegraph, telephone and dispatch. In 1920 Royal Engineers Signals Service became Corps of Signals.

Voted July 1959 under a five-year programme, with half the cost being paid by United States. Based on the German Type 207, but with a stronger hull for deeper diving, and revised equipment. They can fire the US Mk 37 and Bofors Tp 61 wire-guided torpedoes. Svenner, equipped for officer training, has a second periscope and was 1m longer.

This approximately 1" fish spends their entire life on wire coral strands. They have also been known to spend time on substitutes,,,pipes, wire strands, etc. Those I have observed run up and down the coral, and will not leave, They have a symbiotic relationship with the coral...the goby has a place to live, and in exchange they protect the coral against various small pests. This spotting was deep, at about 110', off the west coast of the big island of Hawaii.
Along one of the paths near the quay in Exeter. I particularly liked this shot as I think the barbed wire looks like a heart.
