They are a source of many untold stories. Each and every stretch of them has their own unique tales to tell, which is why barbed wires, even for their simplicity, are very fascinating to look at. I don't know the story behind this one, but it looked so interesting to me that I decided to capture a pic of it. Totally unedited. Also a fave of Ilé.
The two Bates Staplers, have a roll of brass wire mounted at the back of the machine. When the stapler is squeezed together, the wire is advanced, cut off, and then folded prior to being pressed through the papers. The brass wire doesn't rust, so it is preferred by archivists over steel staples. These two were made in the 1930's.

Available in shops now. Nice piece on OpenStreetMap and open data on Pages 102 to 111. The article is also available online here (but not as pretty)
It starts with a couple of pages about OpenStreetMap, particularly the Haiti response, including some quotes from me. It goes on to talk about open data in general with lots of quotes from Chris Osborne of ITOworld about open transport data (and beautiful ITOworld illustrations throughout) Jonathan Raper (placr.co.uk) gets a little quote in there too.
The other day Callie jumped THROUGH one of the openings in our back deck railing to go chase a squirrel in the yard. You know taking the steps is just too darned slow for a Border Collie! : ) So we now have chicken wire between the rails so that won't happen again. Hopefully, it will be replaced by prettier - and closer together! - rails, but this should do the job in the meantime!
