In surfing, even the end of the great ride can be a great shot.

At Palace Playland in Old Orchard Beach.

When shooting skaters a few thrills and spills have to be expected the unglamorous side is nursing them afterward.

Make Off... WIPEOUT "Hombre al agua" Endemol Chile TV

I thought of the famous 1960s instrumental when I reviewed this picture in my camera. I was at Windansea Beach in La Jolla, California with my wife and daughter, and decided to take pictures of some boys surfing a short distance away. They were all very cooperative and expressed interest in seeing the pictures, which I told them would start becoming available in a few days. I was unable to review any of the images at the time because of the bright sunlight, but I did so later and was tickled with the results. I had never photographed surfers before, but it occurred to me that it was exactly the same as my dance photography except that the light was obviously much better on the beach than it usually is on the dance floor; otherwise, it was simply a matter of anticipation and timing and capturing the moment.

2 January 2017 - 002/365

The plan this morning was to go to the local break wall and try to catch some boats as they head out for a day's fishing. However the boats decided that they felt like a lie in and so I turned my attention to the other side of the wall and there were some surfers just entering the water.

I stayed for about half an hour and reeled over approximately 100 shots whilst testing out different settings on my D7200. My favourite shots were of a couple of kids that looked like brothers who were having a ball - and from what I could tell were pretty good surfers.

I wouldn't like to post pictures without consent of the guardians and so this picture of the back of an adult surfer will suffice.

I also got to know my camera a little better and have learnt quite a bit about shutter speed as well as just how much improvement there is in ISO performance vs my old D90.

can you say 'wipe-out'?......a day of tubing yielded some amazing wipeouts...this one was the most epic for sure

When big waves came to Cornwall in Britain earlier this year, it was a surfer's loss and a photographer's gain. The pics, shot by Jacoub Cockle, can be seen large and in series at madmariner.com/news/story/WIPEOUT_012208_AP

Third WIP version of the craft.

The structure is closer to what I expect from the final version and lots of details were added.

Another sledding fail.

Second WIP version of the craft.

The structure is now sturdier and the style somewhat closer to the original craft.

Day 284 of my 365 project for 2015.

Looks like impending doom right in front of the wipeout to go stand. Oh, the irony...

Happy 2021 to everyone.

I have started the year with yet another Feisar build. This time the build was more aimed at shape and proportion which is why there are so many gaps here and there.

This is the most accurate I have been to the Feisar model from WipEout Pure, which in my eyes is the closest to perfection. I had to make some concessions with some areas. Mainly being the curve in the lack of curve in the nose, no airbrakes on the wings and the cockpit is shaped differently.

I really liked the outcome on this one and I hope you all do too.

Thanks

About to get a face full of ocean on a nice south swell.

Challenge - sporting activities

Perhaps not the most graceful landing, but no tears or broken bones, so I consider that a success.

Laying down on the Job

These were made for a New Years Eve, 29th Anniversary, WipeOut themed party. Whew!

A little wipeout vig that I made last night. I believe that my SNOTwork structure in the back turned out pretty well.
