After a long snowy and dreary day yesterday, the clouds parted and made for an unexpected winter sunset. Yes, it really was that spectacular.
Snow and freezing rain have arrived in Portland this weekend, making for some interesting abstracts but severely limiting travel. Happy Valentine's Day to all.
The photo Wintry Lodge added to The Galaxy & Stars 3 (P1/C5 - No Spiders, No Snakes) has been selected to be its cover photo.

A picture from a cold spell a few weeks ago, hopefully there is some more on the way. This will most likely my last upload before Christmas. So I just want to wish you all a merry Christmas and thank you for all your lovely comments and favourites.
Merry Christmas!
Just downstream of Sahalie falls.. A pretty popular spot for the locals, you can see why.. Allot tougher to get to in 3 feet of snow ...
The image in the comments has my third highest view count, but I have never really liked it, so I thought I would try to improve it. This has proved quite hard, but here is the new version. I wonder if it will get the same amount of attention? And, btw, I still don't like it very much!
No takers for the elegant (and presumably) Victorian shelter on the promenade on this freezing cold and blustery winter's morning. In fact, apart from a couple of shore-fishermen, the seafront was practically deserted. Not a 'Ten from Len' day, then.

As you know I love the crisp air of winter and try to shoot between the rain and wind storms. This was a fun one as I stood right in front of the Lobster Shop on Tacoma's Ruston Way.
My original vision was for a long exposure and totally smooth watery foreground, but then a ship went by creating the wave pattern and that immediately changed my mindset! The polarizer on the camera, and a touch of Orton effect in processing brought it to life. I removed that soft glow from the tall buildings to make them pop in contrast. Everyone thinks that tallest building is St Joseph's Hospital, but it is just a tall apartment building I think.
Thank you for your warm and kind visits in the midst of winter here in the NW. I appreciate all of our flickr friends a lot! 💖

Another shot from Sunday but alas no Ducks in this one.
I'm not a fan of portrait shots at all and I sometimes forget that fact when I'm shooting what's in front of me. It's automatic to take the photo the way the scene in front of you is presenting.
So I have mixed feelings about this one but obviously I like it enough to post.....so I guess that's my yardstick!
Kittitas County, Washington. I’m not sure what he had for lunch but there is white fur/feathers(?) on his mouth, body and talons.
After so many months, I went around to see the snow in the park. This photo was taken through the dirty windshield of my car.
I wasn't going to post today but I read the sad news that a friend here passed out on January 9 and I feel very sad. : (
This photo is for you, Don! www.flickr.com/people/donbriggs/
You were a good friend even if I never knew you personally. RIP🙏
On/Off - Thank you so much for your visit and comment! I really appreciate it!

Sometimes, you just have to look in the backyard to find beauty. This morning I awoke to a winter wonderland of white. I noticed the cardinals alternating between perching in the backyard spruce trees and grabbing seeds from the feeders. So I sneaked my tripod with the camera and lens onto the deck and waited for them to perch in the open. The males were very striking in their vivid red, but it was this understated female that caught my eye. Welcome, winter weather!

Close to the summit of Conachcraig offers a fine view over Lochnagar, with Meikle Pap in front of its corrie.
Conachcraig is a Corbett standing at 865 meters (2837 feet). A Corbett is a Scottish mountain between 2500 and 3000 feet high, with at least 500 feet of descent on all sides.
