These were ghost trees at one time but have had some of their blanket of snow blown away. Ghost trees happen when snow and frozen fog completely cover the tree so they look like bent over ghosts. This spot along the Dalton Highway, Alaska is still pretty impressive, especially early in the morning.

A winter day in Nordfjord.

winter´s last icy breath causes a standstill of nature

On February 5, 2021we had another soft snowfall that came down as a beautiful, white, fluffy snow. Since I had my Canon at home I felt fortunate to be able to photograph nature at its finest, up close and personal in the woods and hillside behind my home.

Our ridiculously warm December continues so I'm forced to dig again into the archives for festive winter shots. Happy Friday!

Winter jewel made of snow

In the sunshine, you now glow

On your throne , where you are seen

A beautifully soft, natural queen

Caught now in the spreading hand

Of the tree that rule the lands

Covered now in the suns sweet light

And a blanket of pure white

That now does shine and glow

On the jewel of Winter snow

On its throne, where it is seen

A beautifully soft, natural, queen

This is a photo taken at winter solstice day five years ago from Tyrskyvuori hill facing Espoo Bay. The weather was most of the day overcast and temperature was several degrees over freezing point. Today weather is very similar except that it also rains.

Frozen corn is on the menu at this farm with plenty of barns and silos.

A typical farm in the winter where the crows hunt for loose kernels of feed corn around silos and barns.

This crow looks like he had a couple lookouts while he pecked away.

This is the time that I want to hold dearly

and seize the moment,

with everything laid bare by the winter,

the Christmas season over

and just our own light to celebrate

Finally there was some sunshine and the resident kingfisher showed his electric blue back.

winter snow is pretty obvious.

27-12-2005...memory of a great winter holiday in Norway...to see the sunset colors so early was a great experience...much will have been changed over the years in Trysil, but these beautiful winter memories will always stay the same:-)

WINTER CORNFIELD | NIKON F90X with Nikkor 24-120 mm | ILFORD DELTA 100

Winter layers on the land

Drawn by sweet natures hand

Decorating the fields and hills

With the colours and the chills

Of Winters caressing fingers

That covers the land and slowly lingers

Winter is almost over now

I spent most of the year

Dreading you

You are a curse that always

Lasts about 2 to 3 months

Though, each year I'm alive

Your visits grow shorter

You remind me of death

Everything will leave us in time

All living entities have an Expiration

Not all dates are readable or Predictable

But winter comes and takes so much away from us.

It is hard to even appreciate Autumn

When you think about

All of the beauty dying.

All of the colors drying out.

And the Withering…

The challenge to find beauty

In less expected places.

The air, although it seems, crisp at first, becomes

Far more chilling, and intolerable.

The greater the years I am alive,

The more brutal it feels.

It gets to feeling like

I have no skin at all.

But now, I realize

Spring is actually coming.

Spring is a hopeful time yet

Will I ironically miss the dread?

I feel remorse for the fact that

I have no excuse to stay

Inside, isolated, and depressed.

This feels much more like my

Genuine human state.

I cannot resist the world in Spring when life is reborn

I literally have no reasons left

To not go outside.

The experience of the world is

Waiting for me.

Am I ready?

Winter in s/w / Winter B&W

Winter mists shroud the flock of hardy sheep as they graze in the Lyth Valley.

Lake District winters have been wet and mild in recent times. This was taken during the current cold snap from the crest of Scout Scar as the mist began to clear in the valley below.
