I went for a walk this morning with my dog and the first place we stopped was at the edge of the lake.
A snow storm the night before left this quiet winter scene. All I had to do was set up the tripod.
Winter is the king of showmen,
Turning tree stumps into snow men,
And houses into birthday cakes,
And spreading sugar over lakes.
Smooth and clean and frosty white,
The world looks good enough to bite.
That's the season to be young
Catching snowflakes on your tongue.
Snow is snowy when it's snowing
I'm sorry it's slushy when it's going.
In the cold quiet of winter, the farm and farmer rest from their labors.

Brutally cold day yesterday, even in the afternoon, but the fresh snow helped provide a pretty winter landscape. (Always pretty to find a red barn surrounded by a layer of white snow!)
Afternoon Sunlight in the Winter can be very nice as the Sun never gets to high in the sky it not as harsh as Summer Sunlight.This was taken about 15.00hrs so the Sun has past it highest point in the sky and is on its way down.The shot shows The Bird In Hand pub/restaurant located right next to the Staffordshire &Worcestershire Canal just outside Stourport-On-Severn on the way to Kidderminster

The glass is an old collection of my mom's - she was born in 1916 and the set was given to her, so they are old enough...
They are frosted and were used for iced tea and cocktails. Hope mom doesn't mind that I use them for flowers, I thought this white rose looked pretty in her glass.
See you on Saturday, I go back to work part time tomorrow...phew!
As I am 'away' from Flickr due to a very busy 'other life' at the present, I thought a winter sunset just to stay in touch and say hello to all my contacts would be fitting.
I will be back into photography later in the year and must say I am missing it and have probably lost my mojo :-(

Even in the darkest days of winter, signs of life & hope can be found, like these little Hellebore buds frosted with ice. They were a surprise & I was thrilled to find them!
"And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs--..."
Gerard Manley Hopkins
Sometimes winter can be colourful.
