Around Christmas each year I clear off the table and do a few puzzles. I have a few in my collection that I put together over and over again, but every year or two I buy a new one. When I was in Cincinnati in early November I picked up a new Ravensberger 'Road Trip USA' for this week. It was a fairly easy puzzle, we opened it up Tuesday night and finished it the next morning. It's a fun one though, I love the theme!

Week 48, Assignment 2 for Take A Class With Dave and Dave.

Winter Activity. If you’re living in the northern hemisphere we’re getting buried under a fluffy blanket of snow (some more icy than others) and this is our chance to shoot a great winter activity. Tag with cwd482. For our friends in the southern hemisphere, I figure you can fake something, not all winter activities involve snow.

I had high hopes for a Winter Activity shot this past weekend. The local news was all about the impending winter event that was going to pummel us Saturday and Sunday. Snow, Ice, Wind, Rain, Sleet, we were getting it all. It was Armageddon and it was coming!

This is typical of Baltimore in the winter (as typical as this, which almost made it as my winter activity shot). Any amount of snow is sensationalized to the point of ridiculousness.

The storm of storms never made it. We had a little bit of rain and the next day the wind dried us out. Now I understand that a lot of the North got significant snowfall and that is all well and good. They get snow all winter long. Here in Baltimore, our winter doesn't really start until February and is over by March. It used to be that we'd see snow in October, November, December and January, but that was years ago.

Every year winter gets later and later and shorter and shorter so in Baltimore most of our winter activities revolve around over reacting to sensationalized weather reports and waiting for that which rarely comes. . . .Snow.

Smugglers’ Notch ski resort is among top ski resorts in the Eastern United States. Voted number one for family programs by a Ski Magazine’s reader survey, this resort offers great terrain, including the only triple black diamond in the East, unbeatable views, great deals on lift tickets, and a variety of programs so that everyone can have plenty of fun. The only disadvantage is the long drive, if you leave in the tri-state area.

I visited Smuggs during the 2008/2009 ski season, and I admit - it is a viable alternative to some high-priced ski resorts. Of course, Smugglers’ Notch is proud to offer one of the best family-oriented resorts in Vermont; however, there are still many options for adrenaline-craving adults. Three big mountains and 1000 acres of terrain provide plenty of opportunities to introduce beginners to the sport, keep intermediates busy, and challenge advanced skiers.

Feel free to visit and read the rest of an article on my Vermont travel blog at www.vertexpress.com.

And have a great ski season!
