Winter is the king of showmen,

Turning tree stumps into snow men,

And houses into birthday cakes,

And spreading sugar over lakes.

Smooth and clean and frosty white,

The world looks good enough to bite.

That's the season to be young

Catching snowflakes on your tongue.

Snow is snowy when it's snowing

I'm sorry it's slushy when it's going.

Brutally cold day yesterday, even in the afternoon, but the fresh snow helped provide a pretty winter landscape. (Always pretty to find a red barn surrounded by a layer of white snow!)

Ottawa's first snowfall came today and may continue to fall tonight....some were excited, others cried "ew". In the former, winter is embraced. For the latter i.e. facing winter blues, they will try to fill their ears with sunset-tinged Jamaican music and fantasize that they are dancing under the swaying palms somewhere in the tropics. In reality however, winter is hauntingly beautiful despite its cold exterior. This picture is my way to pay homage to its arrival.

On my way to Mt. Ste. Marie for the 24th annual Skifest, a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonalds House, I came across this bridge with a nice winter patina. We raised $130,000 for the house!

Better for the eyes and soul in the lightbox. Press L, and get into the bridge.

Cold Winter Sunset clouds on a late Winter landscape, shot in North Carolina.

As I am 'away' from Flickr due to a very busy 'other life' at the present, I thought a winter sunset just to stay in touch and say hello to all my contacts would be fitting.

I will be back into photography later in the year and must say I am missing it and have probably lost my mojo :-(

Even in the darkest days of winter, signs of life & hope can be found, like these little Hellebore buds frosted with ice. They were a surprise & I was thrilled to find them!

"And for all this, nature is never spent;

There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;

And though the last lights off the black West went

Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward, springs--..."
