Winter Aconite or Eranthys hyemalis

1st. of March, and winter strikes back over the southern part of Norway.

After a gloomy morning the sun came out in the afternoon and Linus enjoyed the lovely weather in his garden. While he was watching a neighbour repairing his fence, I could take this photo of Linus showing his lionesque winter coat which will soon be distributed generously over carpets, furniture and my clothes to make room for the summer outfit.

A partly frozen waterfall from last February. I increased the vibrance and saturation of the ice, brightened the red rocks slightly and left the snow untouched.

We had a little snow yesterday and overnight. With the colder temperatures this past week and the forecast for continued cold, I never expected to find these mushrooms still active. Winter is here.

Talvipäivän haloilmiö

On winter’s margin, see the small birds now with half-forged memories come flocking home to gardens famous for their charity.

The green globe’s broken; vines like tangled veins hang at the entrance to the silent wood.

With half a loaf, I am the prince of crumbs;

By snow’s down, the birds amassed will sing like children for their sire to walk abroad!

But what I love, is the gray stubborn hawk who floats alone beyond the frozen vines;

And what I dream of are the patient deer who stand on legs like reeds and drink that wind; -

They are what saves the world: who choose to grow thin to a starting point beyond this squalor. - Mary Oliver

Theme: Post Process Nature

Not too many birds calling actively these days in the forest, with the exception of red eyed vireos, pewees, and of course pound for pound the loudest bird out there, the Winter Wren! This one was happily singing, calling and bouncing around fairly close to the falls at Hilton Falls this rainy morning, with shutter speeds at 1/80th @ 600MM (840MM crop) I was lucky to get maybe 2 sharp frames out of 50!

Still plenty of colour in the cold winter woods. This spot was slightly warmer than the rest at just above freezing.

Happy weekend everyone, tomorrow is September, and the photo taking season for me is only a few weeks away, it will be winter soon after that, anyway the photo of Hohenwerfen castle was taken on a snowy winter morning in the mountains south of Salzburg.
