Below at the base of Iron Mountain, in San Bernardino County, California, is one of the five pumping stations for the Colorado River Aqueduct. Iron Mountain Pumping Station is the first station after the water is lifted from the Colorado River near Parker Dam 56 miles east. Here the water is lifted 144 feet into a 7 mile tunnel that goes through Iron Mountain. The system is composed of two reservoirs, five pumping stations, 62 miles of canals, 92 miles of tunnels and 84 miles of buried conduit and siphons.
