In October, the brownnes of the landscape was overwealming. windowframes, plastic sheets used to cover unfinished roofs, and children were welcome breaks from the color of the earth
The Drumheller Valley has a long history of mining - this mine is one of the better preserved in Canada. The men and ponies that worked this mine worked brutally hard and looked after each other. It is a very interesting heritage site and now offers tours into the actual mine. Take time to take the "tipple tour" - it is well worth doing.
Historic Hopewell Furnace, Chester County, Pennsylvania. There is one outbuilding here where visitors are encouraged to touch the exhibits. I interpreted "touch" to include "move," and moved this charming old hat from a rumpled old bed, to this worn, old table.
