I went out to RDH again this morning with Mark to take some scene shots for the short film we're filming out there week after next. The script is complete and we're in the process of gathering photos and mapping out where certain scenes will be filmed at the vacant site.

This one's inside the Admin Building.

I wanted to catch the shadow on the windowframe, but it's barely visible.

The upper corner of a pink Victorian building reveals the scorched aftermath of a fire, its ornate cornice and window trim blackened and charred where flames once licked up the facade. The rounded bay window, once a graceful architectural flourish, now stands hollowed out, its glass panes shattered and its interior exposed to the open sky, with charred roof beams visible through the gaping frame. Streaks of soot and peeling paint mar the once-uniform blush-pink exterior, while a section of the building beside it remains untouched, its cream and teal siding still intact in stark contrast to the destruction next door. Delicate decorative molding survives along the lower edge of the bay window despite the extensive damage above, a reminder of the ornate craftsmanship the building once displayed in full. The bright blue sky beyond only heightens the sense of loss, framing the ruined turret in stark, sunny clarity. It's a sobering image of how quickly fire can strip away the beauty of a historic building while leaving just enough intact to remember what was lost.

Ruby is a ghost town in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, United States. It was founded as a mining town originally named Montana Camp, so named because the miners were mining at the foot of Montana Peak.

Ruby is one of the two best-preserved ghost towns in Arizona, along with the Vulture Mine near Wickenburg, Arizona. Ruby's attractions today include about 25 buildings under roof, including the old jail and houses, the old school, the playground, old mine machinery, buildings and mine workings. Ruby is entirely on private property and charge for admission to the site

An old farmstead outbuilding with 20 window openings. 14 windows and two doors on the south exposure and 3 windows each on the west and this east facing picture.

The lone white frame was found "as is" and not "propped up" for the photo. All of the remaining white frames are found strewn inside the building.

Used the magic wand in Photoshop E11 to cut the in-focus windowframe of one photo, and paste it onto a photo with the view in focus. There is probable an app or plugin for E11 that will do this automatically, but I haven't got it - at least, I didn't find it if I have.

Windows and what might be seen through them frequently prove irresistible to me, so I thought I'd try this shot at St Boniface's Church, having spied the stained glass in the top of the opposite window

The day before he'd transported big windowframes to my new home. This van has been to Turkey only once. The previous 6 times.

This cheeky little bugger's been eyeing up our window boxes for the past few days. It's my own fault - I've been scattering some bird food in them, as well as putting it in the feeder on our window. The last couple of days, it's been sitting brazenly in the window box at every available opportunity (ie, within seconds of being shooed off). This was him (/her?) lining up to jump across from the tree this morning.

Kind of cute though, eh?

Really wasn't feeling very well when I woke up today - I really wished I could just stay home sick, but that's not an option at the moment with so much work going on in just about every room of our flat. Anyway, I didn't feel quite so bad when I got to work, and in fact had a really productive day there. Came home and found our front door had been stripped, and our lovely new (perfectly plastered) ceilings had been painted. Good progress! You can just about make out the partly painted and wood-fillered window frames here, too. Still quite a lot to do though - reckon it'll be another couple of weeks at least.

Al Mudhif - A Confluence is a collaboration of Sarah Kavage and Philadelphia-based artist Yaroub Al-Obaidi and his brother Mohaned to build a mudhif at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education (SCEE), possibly the first such structure to be built in North America! A mudhif is a traditional Iraqi ceremonial structure, made of bundled and woven marsh-growing reeds, that serves as a hospitality and celebration space. This mudhif will be made from invasive Phragmites reeds that were locally harvested nearby.
