This old windmill stand in the cenrte of Whitburn, near Sunderland, i think its the only one around with its sails still attached.

Dear *gawd* are windmills pretty. I mean, nuclear energy is all well and good, and I hear grand things about solar, but wind power leads to some *gorgeous* structures.
These huge towers are 368 feet tall from the base to the tip of one of the huge blades. It costs around one million $$ for each.

I thought this was going to be a very boring sunset ... but in retrospect, the simplicity of the color transition offsetting the windmill with no clouds or other sky features etc. has made this one of my favorite shots.

Zaanse Schans is an area quite close to Amsterdam where you can find some old windmills and other authentic Dutch houses. It is a major tourist attraction (more than 1.5 million visitors a year). Some windmills are standing on their original spot, some others have been taken to Zaanse Schans.
Spotted this old windmill on my way back from Brighton and decided to take few shots. HRD processing.
The present windmill on Brill Common in Buckinghamshire, was probably erected sometime in the 1680s. Although not quite the oldest windmill in England, it is one of the best preserved of the dozen or so 17th century post-mills still standing. A post-mill is a mill in which the whole structure revolves around a central post in order to face the wind.
