The windmill, dating from 1805, is a tower mill and stands on Lytham Green. It was operational until 1918, and was restored in 1987. The windmill is in rendered brick on a plinth of cobble walling, and has a wooden cap and sails. It contains a doorway and windows, and at the top is a boat-shaped cap and fantail.
Happy Windmill Wednesday
and HAPPY THANKSGIVING.... I will have limited access while I visit with family and friends so I will see you back on Sunday.
It was a beautiful day today and the clouds were just crazy-cool. This is not an HDR, it really looked this wild. :) Too bad I only had an iPhone with which to capture it.
Yes, I know: “What, ANOTHER windmill?” Maybe it’s a Don Quixote thing. In addition to my other windmill postings, I liked the reflection, sky and rural setting of this one. And windmills are just cool structures. Interesting that people are still living in them. Seen during our trip down the Rhine River on a Viking River Cruise.
When I arrived in Amsterdam I went on a tour through the city and the hinterland. And how could I experience the Netherlands more authentic then on a bike...?
Our first stop outside of the city was at a historic windmill. This one is an original one and probably about 200+ years old. A dutch guy is living in it. He looks after it and takes care of that old lady. It's very sad that of those thousands of mills only a few are left today. So he does an important job here...
So my trip through the Netherlands started with some of the biggest clichés: bikes and windmills. What could be the next? ;)
Moulton windmill in Lincolnshire is the tallest windmill in the UK at 100ft tall. It is a grade 1 listed building and has been fully restored with new sails and is now in full working order.
