The Conception Wind Farm is located just over the hill from Conception Abbey in North Missouri. Our camera club recently took a photo field trip to the abbey. As we left we stopped to take photos of the giant windmills. We were fortunate to have this combine arrive on the horizon shortly after we started shooting.

It's taken me 3 visits, but yesterday evening I finally got a photo here I feel is worth posting! This was taken around 20 minutes after sunset, when the beautiful oranges and pinks of dusk were sitting behind the windmill. The lights being switched on was a bonus, though I do wish they would either light up it all, or none.

I was lucky to get this composition, there was a big pile of dried up manure, around 13ft high which I clambered up in order to shoot over the bushes. The things we do for the shot eh?

This windmill is one of Warwickshire's most famous landmarks, standing on a hilltop overlooking the village of Chesterton for nearly 350 years, near the Roman Fosse Way and about five miles (8 km) south-east of Warwick. It was built in 1632-1633, probably by Sir Edward Peyto, who was Lord of the Chesterton Manor House. At this time John Stone, a pupil of Inigo Jones, was in Chesterton, designing the new Manor House, and he probably helped with the Windmill as well. Sir Edward was a mathematician and astrologer and probably his own architect to the windmill, but although claims have been made that the tower was originally built as an observatory, the estate accounts now at Warwick Record Office show that it has always been a windmill,[2] making it the earliest tower mill in England to retain any of its working parts. Kinderdijk windmills: unique & iconic water management

A significant part of Holland is situated up to approximately 7 meters below sea level. The Dutch don’t notice any of this though, because an incredibly innovative and intricate system keeps the ever-rising seawater from flooding the land. Even during spring tide, the Dutch are safely guarded from being washed away.

The most important aspect of UNESCO World Heritage Kinderdijk is undoubtedly the unique collection of 19 authentic windmills, which are considered a Dutch icon.

Lytham Windmill is situated on Lytham Green in the coastal town of Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, England. It is of the type known as a tower mill and was designed for grinding wheat and oats to make flour or bran. Since commercial milling on the site ceased in 1921 the mill has belonged to the town and is operated by Fylde Borough Council, who open it to the public during the summer. The mill also contains a museum run by the Lytham Heritage Trust which explains the history and practice of flour milling.

The mill was built on Lytham marshes around 1805 on land leased by the local landowner and squire to miller Richard Cookson. Some of the mill's machinery, including a 150-year-old mainshaft of Baltic oak, was salvaged from other local mills. The plinth which now surrounds the mill was added later for safety reasons. The original smoky drying kiln, once adjacent to the mill, was moved to Kiln Street after pressure from well-to-do local residents in the growing town. The surrounding land was later levelled and grassed to form a ribbon green between the houses and the sea, in the middle of which stands the mill.

In 1919 a high wind overcame the mill's braking mechanism and the sails spun out of control, causing the mill to be burnt out. Two years later the squire, John T. Clifton, donated the gutted building to the town. The shell was restored, given a new cap, a set of mock sails and used variously as a cafe, as headquarters of Lytham Cruising Club, Motorboat Club and Sea Cadets and even as an Electricity Board sub-station.

In 1951 the mill was designated a grade II listed building. In 1989 it was totally restored by Fylde Borough Council and opened to the public.

Taken from signage at the site: La Mancha, the windmills and Don Quijote's shadow have become, over the course of time, profoundly linked. Consuegra's Windmills, together with the Castle, make the unmistakable Cerro Calderico silhouette declared Property of Cultural Interest, which was categorized as historical site n 2008.

Twelve of the thirteen windmills, at first located at beginnings of the twentieth century are preserved on the hill. It should be noted that five of these completely maintain their mechanism and are in working conditions. Among them, the one named Sancho stands out with a quiet ancient typology. As for the resting four Rucio also preserves its grinding system in good condition and regarding Espartero, Mochilas and Bolero also keep their original pieces intact.

A 10 minute walk brings me to this wonderful windmill restored to full glory by The Holgate Windmill Preservation Society.

A stroll around this very iconic windmill this week and a nice clear evening to enjoy it.
