This lighthouse, originally built in 1912 has born the brunt of brutal winds and waves for over a century now. A symbol of a time past, this icon holds fast in January's setting sun.
Created for the 115 in 2015 Group - #114 A Tunnel
We don't have any tunnels locally at all - but what we do have is plenty of wind tunnels, so I'm hoping that this can fit the bill.
Ii is a narrow passage between houses, an alley-way. And the walls are high enough to funnel the wind from the sea (in the distance) right down the tunnel, and make walking hard against the wind. Often you have to lean into the wind to make any progress at all ;o)

Have a great weekend :)
Please, consider also viewing some of my most interesting shots according to Flickr!
Have shot St. Benet's mill a few times before, but some new flood defence works have created some new angles there, including this one which I shot today whilst on a workshop my wife got me as a xmas present last year, which I finally got round to using!
the cold wind paints the waves on the snow, as if it were sand or water.
on the background the Odle Group, Dolomites, Italy.
if you "open" the picture you will "visit" the magnificence of this Alpine landscape.
welcome to the Dolomites : )
High winds whip up huge clouds of blowing snow that cause interesting shadows on the peaks at Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.
It was very windy and cloudy at the beach yesterday. Poor Banjo's ears were sticking up the whole time from the wind, I did find it rather funny though haha. He kept trying to walk behind my legs to sheild himself.
The wind along the Oregon coast can be quite strong, creating wind-swept beaches and large dunes. This is especially true from Coos Bay to Florence, where the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is found.

“Camminare per me significa entrare nella natura. Ed è per questo che cammino lentamente, non corro quasi mai. La Natura per me non è un campo da ginnastica. Io vado per vedere, per sentire, con tutti i miei sensi. Così il mio spirito entra negli alberi, nel prato, nei fiori" Reinhold Messner

Weather abstract ~ Slid a long long way around
the Thomas fire to contemporary art gallery!
HSS, my Flickr friends!
Wind-driven wildfires are terrifying events which can be devastatingly destructive to lives and property. This abstract sends powerful, positive encouragement to survivors of the recent Thomas Fire in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties,
my neighbors in southern California. Be strong and be well,
my friends!

Merry Christmas !!
Sorry, I didn't have any Christmas-like images prepared, so I upload wind chimes, even though it's a bit of a Christmassy season.

Taken from the eastern end of Loch Tulla near Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe Scotland. These two trees give a strong indication of prevailing wind direction and strength which passes over this area. I chose B&W to emphasise the remoteness and ruggedness of the scene.
Four Strong Winds
Neil Young
Four strong winds that blow lonely
Seven seas that run high
All those things that don't change, come what may
But our good times are all gone
And I'm bound for moving on
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way
If I get there before the snow flies
And if things are goin' good
You could meet me if I sent you down the fare
But by then it would be winter
There ain't too much for you to do
And those winds sure can blow cold way out there
Four strong winds that blow lonely
Seven seas that run high
All those things that don't change, come what may
But our good times are all gone
And I'm bound for moving on
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way
Went over to one of my favourite spots this morning, Waverton, which has an awesome lookout over the city.
Four girls turned up for a sunrise picnic, and after asking their permission, I included them in my shot.
Hope you like “Four Strong Winds”
Cheers, Mike
Although monsoon weather in the desert southwest eventually winds down around the end of September, Mother Nature reminded us yesterday that she's still not finished for this season.

Happy Windmill Wednesday!
Although these are now termed "wind generators" - so many still look at them as windmills ..just not the classics.
Normally I pass them up but the contrasting clouds sucked me in. :>)
The wind feeds on dust and rolling bushes
and on the pride of erased footprints and scattered clouds.

And yes, now we are in winter.
Today it changed abruptly in the afternoon, in half an hour and did not give us time to notice, nor to dress properly. The escape into the houses was the only alternative ....
Thanks for your recent visits, favorites, comments and invitations. I go slow, but everything is very much appreciated, as always....
