Sometimes you are in the right place at the right time with your camera. This photo of 3 Toms in full display looking over two hens seems to say, "Who's gonna be the odd man out?" Taken in the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge in southern Illinois

In early November of 2015, the BLM aimed to gather wild horses from the Beaty Butte Management Area. The remote southern Oregon location is 65 miles east of Lakeview and adjacent to the Hart Mountain National Wildlife Refuge.
The Beaty Butte herd is estimated to have 1,200 wild horses, six times the designated management level. The goal of this gather is to maintain the natural ecological balance of the range.
On Day 2 of the gather, Nov. 5, Fred Woehl, chairman of the National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board, visited the site and spoke with students from Adel and Plush schools.
More information about the 2015 Beaty Butte gather is available here: www.blm.gov/or/resources/whb/beaty_gather.php

Picture taken on the island of Langeland, Denmark.
"One of the island’s major attractions is the herd of wild horses that was introduced onto South Langeland in 2003. They are Exmoor ponies who manage on their own out in the nature all year round. The idea of bringing them to Langeland was not only for them to be a tourist attraction, but also with the purpose that they should crop the coastal meadow on Klise Nor. This would, amongst other things, benefit the local bird life – and it worked. Therefore a new area of about 100 ha on Dovns Klint has been added. Here, another herd has been released so there is in total aprox 40 horses."

Wild horses in Sand Wash Basin, Colorado. Spring 2017.
"Since humans first huddled around campfires, stories have been told of wild horses with wind in their manes, fire in their eyes and freedom in their hearts. Those horses eluded capture, and scorned the comforts of civilization. Americans have insisted they want their wild horses to live that way, forever."

Finally, La Loire is France’s longest and greatest river. Although the region is well developed the actual river remains an oasis of calm. The river has remained undeveloped – from navigation or hydroelectricity – and if you are careful of its shifting sandbanks and currents, it is a truly wild place to swim.

One of the highlights from our recent vacation was a wild wolf sighting with a blind eye.
In the area that we were, wolves are difficult to view because the species is generally wary of any human presence. They also and have large ranges that can cover over 1000 square kilometers.
We reported this wolf to the Parks Canada and they did not recognize him (we think it was a male). They did tell us that they estimated the age to be 5-6 years of age. Wolves grey like humans do: they get more grey as time passes.
Unfortunately, the shot isn't as sharp as we'd like. We spotted this guy at about 8:30 pm, so the lighting was much less than ideal. I have lightened this image a lot.
When this bird took to the perch these shots were beyond my wildest dreams :-)
I have to be honest if I had seen this shot elsewhere I would have sworn it was a captive bird.
Thanks Mark for making this shot possible, and never to be seen again :-)
This is Old Man. Approximately 29-31 years old (which is pretty old for a horse, domestic or wild).
Wild horses in the Onaqui Mountain range of Utah near Dugway in October 2018. As of December 14, 2018 the Bureau of Land Management wants to take away nearly 80 percent of the horses on this range that would leave approximately one wild horse per every 2,000 acres.

Planckendael zoo.
Planckendael is a zoo, located on the grounds of Planckendael castle in the village district of Muizen, in Mechelen, Belgium. In 1956 the Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp (KMDA) bought the Planckendael estate in order to acquire a larger space for animals than what they owned: the city zoo in Antwerp.
Planckendael also has extensive leisure facilities: For children there is a large separate play area.
