Get Pushed!! Round 3 challenge from Gail (Mmmm KD) was "...to capture a smoke shot".

Not a challenge to take lightly. One of the most difficult parts of shooting smoke is getting it in focus. Not to mention getting smoke to exist. My latest attempt to get smoke was in the BBQ grill using mesquite chips that are used to create smoke I figured they would work well. Nope. With the lid off they wanted to flare up and burn clean in a few seconds. I had to continually squirt them with water to prevent them from drying rapidly and flaring up. Focus was the next battle with it. Hard to get a good contrast background so I zoomed in on the source instead.... meh.

I also included a previous shot I did in Our Daily Challenge for smoke. Used a cigar for the smoke source in a blacked out room and a pocket flashlight to illuminate the smoke.

Thanks Gail for making me stop and think my way through a shot. It was a great drill with my still new to me camera. Always settings and such to work through for those special situations.

this evenings sun set after a spectacular warm autumns day

Ink in water. Some photoshop levels work.

Better known perhaps as Blackrock Cottage the rocks around it were more of a frosty white on this particular cold morning.

Smoke haze from hazard reduction combined with temperature inversion & some misty drizzle coming thru make for ethereal flying experiences - constantly changing vistas, tantalising hints of landscape appearing and then evaporating again, the cloudy whisps dancing around playing a game of catch me if you can!

Jan 12th,

we sure do have some weird weather, and weird weather makes awesome clouds.

Some whisps but mostly clear sky.

For being a fairly well photographed location, there is nearly no information about this school online. All I could dig up was that it dates back to 1918. A very photogenic structure. Not much remains inside; nevertheless, it is still a testiment to our past.

Poor Whisp, it must seem that all of the two year olds follow her around just to scare her up into trees...

I did this effect with HDR. There is a plug-In for photoshop that does it pretty well, but programs like Photomatix give you a lot more control faster. Though they're spendy.

It really quickly gives you a neat effect with little effort; just three photos at -2, 0, and +2 exposure and you're done. This is just a first attempt, so it's a bit overexposed in areas, but I rather like it :-)

And thank you jill greenseth for helping me find this spectacular tree that wonderful day :-)

12/18/11 I ran so fast and far to get to this photograph that i couldn't catch my breath till long afterthe sunset was over.

Me quiere, ¿sabes? Me quiere de verdad.

- Y yo, Mazarine. ¿Es que no lo ves?

- Pues entonces demuéstramelo.

- El sexo no lo es todo. ¿No te vale mi intención?

A Fine Frenzy - Whisper

There was a single cloud on the horizion, with a small whisp floating in front as the sun set, making this unusual sunset.

11/365

This took me a good five hours to shoot & edit, phew!! Makes me feel accomplished :D

Today was such a change from yesterday, I'm just buzzing with energy and excitement!! I'm getting more and more into photography, it's really becoming something I love, and I actually look forward to each and every 365. I know it's too soon to tell how far I'll really get, but for the first time ever I can actually see myself finishing it. These past two weeks I've taken a lot of time to myself, really trying to figure out who I am and who I'll become. All I know is that I want to meet people and see the world, and help others-- whether it be feed the poor or teach them how to use a camera!

The sky heading out last week was amazing, To the Sw storm clouds and lightening, to the NW much clearer with whisps of clouds When we stopped near Avoca I was able to capture the contrasts backlit with the setting sun

This is Paige, film View On Black?

The sunset tonight was quite spectacular.

For a change we had lovely weather on Monday to visit Llanddwyn Island. The soft light generated from the low sun was beautiful and the whisps of cloud were great to add a little interest to the sky.

Another late evening shot. This one was taken at the back entrance to the campus. The whisp of a cloud is what caught my attention. Does anyone know what these tall stalks are called? (IMG_6114a)

Trying something different. Both of these are shots from August and the editing is inspired by stuff like this.

an oldie from the summer that I forgot to upload. makes me long for those warm golden nights.

View from my front door.

This beautiful solid wood end table is hand painted in the colors of light sage, bubble gum, watermelon, and a whisp of lemon. The detail needs to be seen in person to be appreciated. No stencils are used, everything is painted freehand. It could be used in a more mature setting, or for a child.

The grout line was a happy accident, but I'm going with it!

Theme Day :: A month of macro [2 of 31]

Approaching the foot of the Hill it has a volcanic shape with the whisps of cloud looking like smoke , but is actually made up of the skeletons of creatures that formed a reef under the sea back in Carboniferous times.
