and the days grow shorter... you can hear the crackling of the fire...
The fog smells of snow and wood smoke... charming little lights adorn the houses and everyone gathers with a mug of mulled wine to warm up, unwind... and share tales of winters past and dreams of future...
One day... some day... this will return...
And now back to reality... or maybe not... not just yet...

When you're someplace beautiful and peaceful, a place that calms you and rejuvenates you at the same time, you tend to want to stay there, as long as possible.
That must have been how this lone boater on Diamond Lake was feeling at the time I took this photo.
I know I didn't want to leave.
It amazes me how the colors on Mt. Thielsen change depending on the lighting. Of course, that's Thielson on the left

The image shows part of an icy candle lantern. When we have a really hard frost I make these lanterns as garden decorations in the winter. I freeze also flowers like tulips inside the lantern, as it is here.

Jökulsárgljúfur river canyon in Central-North Iceland is a magnificent example of the raw creatve powers of our planet. The entire canyon displays the most stunning structures of columnar basalt at an incredible expense of landscape. It was created by the joint work of Earth folding up an entiremountain range and the Jökulsá á Fjöllum river grinding its path through it. At one ramification of this canyon there is Dettifoss, supposedly Europe's most powerful waterfall and at another end is Selfoss, another superb example of Icelandic waterfalls.

When you're flying at an altitude of almost 4.000m you look down and all you can see are the peaks of majestic mountains floating on an ocean of clouds, you feel that you can only be at the top of the world (or on another planet!).

winter nights above the Arctic Circle are often blessed with appearances of Aurora Borealis which seem to be competing with those bright nights us humans create to beat the darkness.
A couple of Hoary Marmot (Marmota caligata) rest on the warm rocks of the slopes of Mt. Edith Cavell in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada.

The strong winds are bringing the heavy rain down Danby Dale from Danby Head in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, England. Luckily for once I was not out walking as visibility on the top was only a few yards.
This is the east side of the dale looking towards Botton village at Dale head
Botton is a small village within Danby Dale which is mainly a Camphill Community founded in 1955 for people with learning disabilities
I am in love with texture these days :)

When Yuki gets groomed they add a scarf around her neck to come home with. We were just fooling around a bit. She plays the part of a bandit quite well.
...when we were working the land to obtain the best fruits. Now the sun beats down mercilessly, and this climate has nothing, absolutely nothing human... and even our eyes are dehydrated!
