In the Village of Elmwood Park, Groot Industries works with the Department of Public Works to collect the leaves that have been placed in the street by residents. Rather than dividing the Village into zones with designated service days, crews work along the Village's Street Sweeping routes. Although it only allows the crews to collect one side of the street, it is meant to ensure that there are no cars parked in their way.
The Public Works crews use pickup trucks with a plow attachment to push the smaller piles into large piles on each street. Then, a Groot Rear Loader accompanied by either a wheel loader or backhoe collects the larger piles. After the large piles are collected, a street sweeper comes by to get whatever wasn't caught by the other equipment.
My Liebherr wheel loader is another fitting load for the truck. This picture illustrates why I can be quite picky about scale: these vehicles were built separately, but because they are appropriately scaled they fit together almost perfectly.

A brace of Caterpillar wheel loaders had not long commenced the loading of this MGR service at Penallta Colliery. Class 37/7 37701 would in due course haul the loaded HAA hoppers forming 7C87 to Aberthaw Power Station.

In 2019 LEGO released a new type of tyre, that is narrower than an older model with the same diameter. It was just about perfect for this scale.
The wheel loader I posted a couple of days ago was never intended to be a stand-alone model; I built it to have something to put on top of the trailer of my latest truck: this Mercedes Actros with stepframe trailer.
Behemoth series...
These giant wheeled bulldozers move the snow in the various area parking lots during the winter season. Now they are a curious sight, parked side by side as the signs of the new season sprout around them.

Diesel-electric wheel loader
The prototype featured a 22-cubic-yard bucket and was suited to load 150 to 170 ton haul trucks like the Euclid R-170.
My model in scale 1:28.5 has all the functions of the original:
- All-wheel drive with planetary gear reduction in each wheel hub using two PF XL motors
- Articulated steering by means of two linear actuators powered by a PF M motor
- Pneumatic lift arm with four-cylinder pump, driven by a PF L motor and PF Servo actuated valve
- Pneumatic bucket with four-cylinder pump, driven by a PF L motor and PF Servo actuated valve
- Oscillating rear axle
- Work and rear lights using four pairs of PF LEDs in total
The wheel loader is remote controlled using PF speed remotes and three PF receivers, one of which is a V2.

Yeah, it's done, it's finally over! For a while I promised myself to build something else than trucks. I thought of some heavy equipment. A while back I made a tracked dumper , a bulldozer and a wheelloader .
In the street where I work there is a company who uses telehandler and I really wanted to build one!
This one was way harder than the previous. The chassis was done is an hour, and then I really didn't know how to continue. It took me well over a year to to come back to this project, but now I wanted it finished for a show in Goes this weekend. So I got myself together again and in one evening it was finished.

This nightshot was taken at full moon last night while i was crawling through a nearby sand pit. Covered with mud all over my body it was so much fun that i have to repeat this tonight. *G*
On the southern end of Jawor railyard, there is a small loading facility for balast, that comes from one of the regional quarries. This siding is served by a little, privately owned shunter of class 409Da.
As a result of the large 8x16 tiles I used for the road surface, the base plates curve up a bit at the edges, but I'm still quite happy with the look.
First introduced at the 2000 MINExpo in Las Vegas as the LeTourneau L-2350 it is the world's largest wheel loader. Joy Global took over LeTourneau and the machine became the P&H L-2350. In the meantime Komatsu Mining is the new owner, thus the new designation WE2350 to distinguish the LeTourneau derived products from the Komatsu wheel loaders that bear the WA designation.
At 270 tonnes, the wheel loader carries a 41 cubic meter bucket and features a Diesel electric drivetrain with a 2300 horsepower engine and four electric wheel hub motors. It is designed to center load ultra-class haulers of up to 400 ton (363 tonne) payload.
My model at a scale of 1/28.5 is fully remote controlled via bluetooth and the Brick Controller 2 app using two SBricks. The following functions are powered:
- All-wheel drive: one Power Functions XL motor per axle
- Steering: one Power Functions M motor and two large linear actuators
- Loader boom assembly: one Power Functions XL motor and two XL linear actuators (from CaDa because they come in black)
- Bucket: one Power Functions L motor and two large linear actuators
- Work and tail lights, using three pairs of Power Functions LEDs
Power comes from a Power Functions battery box hidden in the radiator compartment.
Furthermore, the model sports the following features:
- Oscillating rear axle
- Deployable acces stairs
- Openable cab doors
- Extendable work platform on the inverter cabinet
- Deployable ladder on the right service platform
The challenge with this model was that it features huge wheels, being the largest tires on any machine in the real world. To overcome this hurdle, I used brick-built wheels with a diameter of around 18 studs and a width of eight studs. The 22-sided brick cylinder is reinforced by a layer of rubber connectors, at the same time ensuring a smoother ride. The original design to these wheels comes from Milan of Eurobricks.
