The juvy Green Heron made several successful strikes on menhaden in Alligator Alley, including this flawlessly executed all-in attack.
A Great Grey Owl captured coming in low, wings thrown wide and talons dropped, locked onto whatever it had spotted below. That famous facial disc framed the yellow eyes perfectly, giving the bird an almost stern, focused look as it closed in.
The mountain treeline in the background added some nice depth, and the light hitting the underside of the wings brought out every bar and fleck in that grey and brown plumage. Getting the wings fully spread and the face sharp at the same time in a shot like this takes some luck alongside the timing.
Encounters with this species aren't common, so having one come in this close, this low, made for a moment worth waiting on.

With the bundle of joy still in her arms, she would make her way around the bed returning for Aunt Naerra to get a closer view of the babe. She smiled, though her eyes remained back to the Maester and it wasn't until she read his face, that she knew something was wrong too. Katrina glanced to the placenta that has been delivered but the blood that came with it was a lot, more than it should be.
Heart raced with fear and worrisome as she glanced to her aunt, and Katrina's chest heaved up and down as she feared what she was most scared of. Immediately, Katrina walked around to the other side of the bed, carefully handing the babe in her arm over to her Mae as she has experience now of holding newborn babes. And if she'd take it, Katrina would quickly go to the Maester's side. Katrina hissed at Maester, she looked to him, "What have you done?!" With a panic, blood after blood, each of the towels were soaked of crimson red. Katrina's eyes starting welling up as she swayed back and forth, "No.. no.." she sobbed with panic, she watched the Maester try to stop the blood. No matter how many times her brother called for her, her hands trembled in shock and she could not pull herself out of her thoughts, the trauma inflicted her from the death from even her mother and now Aunt Naerra? She was glued to the spot as she looked on with horror and shock on her face.
