i have to be so careful. i just want to stare at welding torches and flames so much. i think (i hope) it's fine to watch the aftereffects, though.

Josh is welding a plate onto a section of pipe, making the crucible. These welds had to be "water" tight.
I'm still not sure where the best places are to start and stop the different sections of the weld.
I'm left handed so I've been starting at 12 o'clock and welding to 3 o'clock, then working the opposite quadrant, from 6 o'clock to 9 o'clock. Then the 3 o'clock to 6 o'clock quadrant and finally the 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock quadrant.
Finding the right hand, body and work piece positions so that the welding goes well is tricky. More practice is needed.

look at the tack weld on the left part. that should kinda sum up what my experience with this has been... a lot of popping and it all tends to look like its contaminated even though I've gone as far as to clean the metal and work surface with acetone.
All links have CNC machine inserts that are tig welded on both link ends with your choice of 1-1/4-12 and 3/4-16 threaded inserts. Links are heat treated after welding and never before, critical for welding strength and durability.
