The completed table in place on the computer desk.

My LED MR16 spot makes for a terrible drawing light, I might need to go back to something more incandescent.

Also, ignore the mess. I pretty much just swiped the contents of the desk aside.

Men at work in my house getting my grill done. Little scary though the person is experienced. Just cant take it if some thing goes in to your Eyes.

In autos class welding.

I thought this welding machine looked really retro and awesome.

Learned this trick when I was at RISD from Mark in the ID Woodshop. I had participated in a work/study program while I attended and one of the many shop improvements Mark had me on was building tables and such. Relatively inexpensive way to start making structures.

Due to the location on the pipe, this joint must be tig welded. While it's possible to do it in one pass, this one was done in two, a root pass and a cover pass.

Wendy has been cutting the arches for the dome as I weld them. Today

the weather was not so cooperative so I only got 4.5 arches done. We

need to make 32 arches to make up the armature of the dome.

Here's another film shot from past weeks. Universities hold a downhill race each year on Shrove Tuesday, and each year all the various organisations build their own sled. The sled being built here came in third, being judged mostly by style and effort.

Focus and exposure by guesstimating, framing by "Oh I can't look directly, it's around there". Cropped slightly after scanning.

Shot on a Rodenstock Ysette 6x4.5 from 1935 (essentially a Balda Baldax with Rodenstock Trinar lenses) on Kodak Portra 400 VC. Fantastic, even in color.

Welding practice gone horribly right

Weld dinner party for things wot I made then ate

Not as dramatic of an effect from the welding as I would have liked, but the image isn't without it's redeeming qualities. Two things stand out for me.

1) the tote with the company name is framed and lit between the arc and weld mask

2) Lots of diaganal lines and they all lead to the welders face and then to the arc. Especially the weld rod itself. My eyes tend to go back and forth between the two items, which then brings focus on the comapny name again.

Wish I would have planned all this :)

The problem with taking pictures of one's brother welding, I found, was that one had to put on a pair of very dark glasses in order not to get arc-blindness from the incredibly bright light. This tends to make the camera view-finder rather redundant. Excellent fun, though. I took a load of "working" shots for his company website. If anyone wants some bespoke metalwork, he's your man.

Welding up some strut housings

All links have CNC machine inserts that are tig welded on both link ends with your choice of 1-1/4-12 and 3/4-16 threaded inserts. Links are heat treated after welding and never before, critical for welding strength and durability.

We sold these to a museum in the UK on ebay.

Nice steel welding equipment, flux and rod cabinet. It even contained a brand new Aga X21 heavy duty torch + an array of tips + a Messer Star kit minus the torch itself.

Was about to take some pictures of a Retro Swimsuit Contest, looked into this car and saw this killer welded chain shifter with paint cans for a knob.
