Anything about Weegee will inevitably be about Old New York. This camera fantasy is reminiscent of an Edward Hopper painting of a lone diner in the early hours of the morning, yet with a warm inviting appeal. Weegee seems to have had a very poor diet. One anecdote says he ate meals of Uneeda biscuits and Heinz baked beans. I'd like to imagine for this homage a connection to the Automat in Nyc in the 1930's. This camera, a gift for Weegee, combines structurally a Polaroid Land camera and a Graflex National although it is a Ying Digitized classic (as there is ample length to hide it all inside the case, digital micro 4/3rd placed in a 90 degree formation with porro prisms to direct the light path from the Rodenstock lens). It also has a 4-section flip out tray not unlike a Japanese bento box and an opulent side door, like in the Prohibition, to a sizable cigar humidor full of Nat Sherman's line of 'timeless' coronas (an actual cigar band has been attached onto my working notes above. Weegee frequented Nat Sherman's, the famous NY tobacconist. This portable diner-camera serves him a healthier version of his original meal: low sodium beans with plenty of mineral-rich molasses and minced onions, a fried egg, rice, a packet of Starbuck's Instant columbian coffee, and a packet of US Army licorice. Both compartments are lighted from the inside emitting a warm glow not unlike welcome lanterns in the windows of American homes. A lunch box handle puts a less serious spin on things. A handsome black leather encloses the whole camera. There are red silk vanity curtains behind the curved window and the cigar box door can be engraved. Luxurious appointments, something Weegee sorely lacked at this point in his life (ca. 1938). Dinner, coffee, cigars, and licorice. What more could a street photographer want?
The cigar humidor is cedar lined and recalls Nat Sherman's store interior with it's warmly lighted cabinets containing humidors and smoking accessories. An optional set of black and aluminum wheels are offered instead of the wooden legs shown. This would make the camera also into a serving trolley.
As a side note I had the very good fortune to have gone to the Automats in Union Square and at Grand Central Station areas as a young child, as well as other now legendary Nyc places like Mary Elizabeth's, Zum's, Chock full 'o nuts, Woolworth's etc. The Automat had great macaroni and cheese.

My alter-ego when I was a young photographer, Weegee, the pseudonym of Arthur Fellig (June 12, 1899 – December 26, 1968), an American photographer and photojournalist known for his stark black and white street photography. Most of his notable photographs were taken with very basic press photographer equipment and methods of the era, a 4x5 Speed Graphic camera preset at f/16, @ 1/1500* of a second with flashbulbs, and a set focus distance of ten feet.
In 1938, Fellig was the only New York newspaper reporter with a permit to have a portable police-band shortwave radio. He maintained a complete darkroom in the trunk of his car to expedite getting his free-lance product to the newspapers. Weegee worked mostly at nightclubs; he listened closely to broadcasts, and often beat authorities to the scene.
* I'm further researching this shutter speed claim, because I don't think the SpeedGraphic camera had a shutter speed this fast, nor do I believe this could be synced to the bulb-flash duration.
[From Wikipedia entry, Weegee. Check there for more info and links to his work.]
Had I not found this couple suffuse with photo ops, I would have suggested they get a room. I wanted to set a stark image of these lovers expression firmly in the viewers' minds, so I used a Weegee-like blast of flash. Rare for me.
I saw him on campus and thought his casual, well-groomed look would lead to a good street portrait. He also looked like he might be an interesting person. I approached him but he didn’t respond to my efforts to get his attention the first couple of times. I almost stopped then, figuring he was avoiding me – a stranger – which was, after all, his right. Luckily, just then he noticed me, stopped, and pulled out an earbud to hear my introduction and request to make a project photo. He said he’d be glad to participate and laughed when I said I was afraid he had been trying to ignore me. He said “Not at all. I have this bad habit of listening to my music really loud.” We shook hands. Meet Sadiq. He explained it’s an Arab name.
We took a few steps to a covered walkway on campus which softened the light. The background of the photos is an announcement regarding an exhibit which I’m going to view tonight about Weegee, the famous crime photographer from New York who did most of his work in the 50s and 60s and more or less dominated the field of crime photography through his work and his tireless self-promotion. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weegee)
Sadiq was very polite and warm in his response to my unexpected request. He said he wasn’t in a rush and was just on his way to get a haircut. He readily followed my simple instructions for posing and offered to remove his glasses for a couple of photos if that would help. He was a pleasure to work with.
Sadiqi a 21 and has a degree in economics, earned in Windsor, Canada’s twin border city across the St. Clair river from Detroit. Born and raised in Nigeria, he came to Canada on his own at the age of 16 to pursue his educational goals. When I asked what it was like to come to such a different country on his own at the age of 16 he admitted it was tough at first. He didn’t make many friends during that first year but then things got easier. He said Canada is very different from his homeland where there is limited diversity and tolerance and he said it took him a while to absorb the fact that in Canada he could follow his own beliefs and just be himself. He’s an animal lover and has two dogs. He’s considering signing up to do volunteer work for the Toronto Humane Society.
We talked dogs a bit and then I asked him if he had a message to share with the project. He shared what he himself has learned: “Just be yourself. Trust your inner voice and don’t worry too much about what others say.” Excellent advice, Sadiq. Plans for the future? “I will definitely want to pursue graduate work but want to get a bit of real-life experience first.” I told him that worked well for me since I lived in the world for three years before doing my graduate work. Advantages of that approach were that I had a clearer sense of what career I wanted to prepare for and I benefited from gaining a bit of life experience and maturity.
Thank you Sadiq. It was great meeting you and I’m delighted to have you be in my project The Human Family on Flickr. Have a good haircut and a good life.
This is my 101st submission to The Human Family Group on Flickr.

Salvador Moreno's concept for a 'fantasy' Leica M6 was one of the ideas that spoke imaginatively to me, he wanted only the simplest of everything in his camera which was in stark contrast to an existing brand name design with many improvements and new specifications, and so I sought to design something that would bring the M6 mystique to an almost ascetic level.
A famous European dessert shop was the inspiration to create a stark fantasy version of the Leica M6. As Mr. Moreno wanted a battery and a SD card in his design, I gave him the biggest SD card I could think of and enough batteries inside to keep it going for quite a while.
Pressing the "shutter" button on top actually loads your iPhone (64gb) into this large camera-cum-Leica store dedicated solely to the legendary M6. Upon insertion, the top center large Leica M6 sign quietly glows, and flaunts this very popular camera in ways that Leica could never do to delight all of its fans.
The legendary camera's silhouette is enlarged, etched and tinted in dark grey graduated tones on a glass façade which is the storefront. To take an exposure, the central glass door is first opened.
Two large humitubes of Habanos (I'm thinking about Cohiba Siglo IV for the amount of work I did here) are concealed inside the right camera grip which is made of Rosewood. A graphic of the M6 light meter on the left hand wall actually conceals a vent fan so that whilst taking portraits with this camera cigar smoke won't get into the photographer's eyes. It also provides a fresh atmosphere for a very special Cohiba experience.
The complete presentation kit comes with a banquette display inside the shop and a set of tiny replica M6 models for sale. Each of these are working toy camera filters that can attach to the iPhone for special 'Leica look' filter effects. Therefore, each filter would be made from hand cut Leica glass.

I remember as a young boy being fascinated by the gritty crime scene photos of Weegee, the pseudonym of Arthur Fellig. Weegee worked the lower east side of New York City in the 1930s and 40s, shooting for newspapers and tabloids He seemed to be everywhere something bad happened, often arriving before police. There's a stark clarity to his photos; absolutely no pretense. He seemed to work mostly at night and the bright flash that he used added a garish quality to the already grim photos. What got to me more than seeing dead bodies were the crowds of bystanders, seemingly unmoved by the appalling scenes before them. Thoughts of these photos have stayed with me all these years, and they were just photos. I can't help but wonder about the people that actually witnessed these things in person. Those memories came flooding back the other day while doing some spring cleaning in my garage. This Halloween decoration I made a couple of years ago, fashioned from chicken wire and cheese cloth, had been tossed carelessly aside (by me) as winter began to set in. Seeing it there, sprawled out in the gravel, instantly put me in mind of a Wedge shot. Easy to imagine him elbowing his way through a crowd of spectators, chomping his signature cigar, and capturing the scene for posterity with his giant Speed Graphic camera with an audible 'poof' from his flash bulb.
This decoration looked had a majestic, even surreal quality in photos I captured of it while on display, the cloth billowing and floating and the figure swayed about in the wind. So alive in death. And now looking quite dead and castaway.

Quite a bit of Weegee's fame rests on his medium format photographs of murder victims.
While these portraits are essentially unique in the history of photography, they are also controversial.
It is only my own opinion, which is all I have the right to say, but I don't feel these photographs should have been taken, even for art's sake. However that being said, I do not condemn it, and I do keep in mind the special qualities of his work. For me, his particular style of photography has a subtle side that I appreciate and learn from the more I look at it. And as I have stated in previous designs dedicated to him, he was a master darkroom technician.
I want to create a camera for Weegee that focuses upon the dead in a more spiritual way befitting them, and using this design to reconcile.
With that in mind, this design proposal seeks to give homage not only to Weegee but also to the photographs and to their subjects. Perhaps in his heart, Weegee was honoring them in some way, but here I propose that the camera the tied to an act of ritual for the dead.
Chinese Ming Qi has a long tradition, as other cultures like the Egyptians, to honor and provide for dead. Funerary objects are depicted and used in various ways. Although I am not an expert on this subject, what is different in the Chinese ritual is that these objects are burned to 'activate' them.
A vintage multiplying camera of the late 19th century is slightly modified for this design. A Chinese Ming Qi object, a house, to 'house' the transient murdered victims becomes a temporary body for the camera, which will take four simultaneous exposures very sharply by virtue of the adapted Speed Graphic flashgun. When the photographs are exposed, the Ming Qi house is detached from its innards (the multiplying camera is among the simplest kind of cameras, functionally) and the user then sets it afire, like incense (which also comes with the kit) thus giving this camera an honorary one-time use befitting the dead, whether the subject here be a gunned down criminal or a victim. A small side compartment holds a cigar to help the user to silently reflect during the ceremony.
The Ming Qi object in this case is further distinguished, as opposed to an ordinary dollhouse or toy, by various silver decorations and subtle styling commensurate with its purpose. In a subtle but coincidental way, this ritual act for the camera indirectly recalls Weegee's own theatricality and uniqueness in life.

Man, I sure hope you guys can see them all well...
So this has been updated with Wave 4 and Villager! I've gotten them all over the course of May and I just now received the final half of Wave 4 through GameStop and Target.
I'll be posting nicknames only this time so I don't have to update everything as much. I kept forgetting to with the other post, so there won't be any reason to look back here often.
Without further adieu, here's the nicknames section!
LAST UPDATED: 6/12

Kirby - Kitby
The nickname originated from when I first got on flickr. Deku Scrubster pointed out that I misspelled Kirby's name, turns out, this is what happened.
Liked it ever since.

Original translation of Marth's name into the short lived anime. Thought it sounded cool as well.

Good to see you made it! You deserve a medal for reading through all that. Or perhaps you didn't and just scrolled to the bottom like any lazy person would...
Ether way, hope ya enjoyed!
P.S. All the amiibo are in order from which I acquired them.
Don't have a lot of journalistic type photos in my collection, but this one I shot in Cincinnati a few years ago kind of fits. I applied a HDR black and white filter to give it a little grit reminiscent of Weegee's style.

Prompt: I think it's God's plan, "Them what wants don't get, them that don't want are awash in gonads", so some book or other says, and it still is news, or somesuch. Weegee who?
Oh feck, I feel an image coming on.
Tongues of fire, and all that palaver.
End prompt-ish.

Drinking Sherry at 5pm extends now to the 2nd of my designs for "Sack", the 16th century English name for Sherry.
It is oddly interesting that around the 18th century people carried their own cutlery with them to their host's home, which is something that photographers still do today (they carry their own cameras) although cell phone and device camera functions (and to an extent Polaroid cameras of course) now have also 'antiquated' this practice. So in the future, we should see a Leica M3 on a sideboard in a room specifically as a reminder of a time when people were limited enough to have to carry their own cameras when visiting. But this Sack Camera will be seen then as still being modern as it is both a portable (at least to a Weegee) and a stationary camera for interiors. Read on for the details.
Derived from an antique 18th-century English Knife box that has been modified now to a pinhole camera. It should be noted that these decorative and elegant knife boxes had been modified for many decades into stationery and postal boxes. The camera has a removable dark slide/cartridge specifically recalling the mail slot for the postal box. As the sketch shows, turning the tasseled key opens the lens cover for exposure. This English knife box-cum-portrait pinhole camera is meant to be displayed elegantly on top of a wooden sideboard in an office or dining room as a drinks cabinet, accompanied by a service tray and other accessories. The back half of the knife box holds compartments for bottles of sherry, port, a gasogene and some crystal glasses.
The underside of the lid frames a token antique 18th-century fruit knife, not the type that would be displayed in a knife box but which evolved as a status symbol of the upper classes. Both Sack and fruit were scarce back then.

Less is known of Weegee's early photographic training years doing tintype work as an apprentice. He was a master darkroom technician before he did his street activities.
A 1598 engraving entitled,
"Dat Rosa Mel Apibus" is from the history of alchemy, for which the darkroom process (especially the portable tintype here) is a modern day metaphor. The symbol of the wisdom and suffering of the alchemical rose is particularly apt in recalling Weegee's life before he became a celebrity. This stylized medieval rose is used to modify the lens-shutter housing on the original Nodark.
The tintype camera will need very long exposures, which justifies the use of a pull out bookcase (adapted from furniture design) with magazines, plants and lounging items. The mechanism to read magazines will be introduced in a later design featuring the Premograph camera.

The open bar during intermissions at the Met is a model for the film winder attachment (which is not used in its original function here).
The central recessed compartment Is lined with gold leaf and lit with a hidden lightbulb. It holds a half-moon shaped shot glass (two are provided) and brandy is dispensed. For this configuration the M3 Is re-lined in white leatherette.
The dispenser buttons (directly behind the crystal-cut louver doors above the central area) and a protruding shelf from the center are in red. The floor of the shelf also has a large red Leica insignia; gaudy but very characteristic. The white, red, crystal and gold are the color palette of the Metropolitan's interior.
The extra height of the winder allows the storage of four Davidoff demitasse cigars; just the right sized smoke for two during intermissions.
A gray presentation case has framed in its inner lid a page of exposure times translated into Chinese from the Leica M3 instruction manual, copied by my father to whose memory this design is dedicated. He used to wear a suit every single day and loved to dress more formally in a bow tie. The Met Opera would have been great for him.
Note: tiny notebook with a tiny 3/4" camera drawing is perfect for tiny Cameron's hands, next month I'll flip it with Audrey's. If someone knows a way to make Flickr diptychs let me know.
Design, text and drawing are copyright 2013 by David Lo.
In this collection of fortune telling objects we have two antique Ouija boards, sheet music titled "Weegee, Weegee Tell me Do", a crystal ball, several repro palmistry hands, and old book of palm reading and fortune telling.
Like many of our collections this one started by chance. Jack wanted to do a photo shoot with the palmistry hands so he bought several reproductions. This, of course let to an interest in the subject and another collection was started.

Added Gold Mario. I may replace this later when I get Toad, so be on the lookout! As always, info from now on will be posted here; so make sure to keep an eye out for when I update info on nicknames n' such.
Most of you probably don't care at this point. I've updated this for what, 4 times now? Uh, sorry about that... I'm not trying to rub this anyone's face or anything, just don't have anything better to post.

1. is when I got them
2. is what the amiibo's nickname is
3. is what level said amiibo is currently on
//////
Mario
1. I got him shortly after Christmas, tied for the 3rd amiibo I got. Somewhere at the end of December I think.
2. His nickname is Madio, which is a pun off the original name.
3. He's currently lv.42, grouped with my more experienced amiibo's. He was actually lv.50 awhile back, but grew stuipid and non-aggressive because I kept training him with the same people over and over again. So Madio, along with a bunch of others are being retrained. He's probably my best and smartest amiibo at the moment, though he tends to spam Cape too often.
Donkey Kong
1. I got him shortly after Christmas along with Mario, which means he's also tied for my 3rd amiibo.
2. I named him Beat&Smack for his tendancy to hurdle you around like a sandbag.
3. He's currently lv.27, over the half way point but not quite up there. He was part of the intial batch that was trained to lv.50, but I'm retraining to be smarter; much like Mario.
Link
1. He's actually tied for my 4th amiibo with a bunch of others that I got from Toysrus. Got him the same day as Mario and Donkey Kong.
2. Nicknamed SirCourage, I think you get why.
3. Currently lv.25. He was actually 50 awhile back like Mario and Donkey Kong, but I'm retraining him to be smarter.
Samus
1. Tied with Link for my 4th amiibo, nothing special. Expect alot of characters tied with Link.
2. Nicknamed Huntress, thought it sounded cool.
3. Currently lv.19. She's one of my newbies. Like the others above, I'm retraining her to be smarter.
Yoshi
1. He was my 11th amiibo to be exact, I got him the same day I got Luigi, but at Toysrus. I don't know why I didn't pick him up sooner.
2. Nicknamed Yoshisaur, I just thought it sounded cewl.
3. Currently lv.20, I haven't got far with him due to paying attention to other characters. He was lv.50 before though.
Kirby
1. My very first amiibo was unwrapped as an early Christmas gift from my parents. My little sister actually wrapped the box.
2. Nicknamed Kitby, I got this name from my very first photo of my Lego Kirby. I misspelled his name in the photo title and I've loved the nickname ever since. My buddy Deku Scrubster actually pointed it out.
3. Currently lv. 23, same situation as the others above.
Fox
1. My 2nd amiibo was a gift from my great grandparents at Christmas, at Christmas Eve to be exact.
2. Nicknamed is Trick for his incredible speed in mindgame prowness.
3. Currently lv.50. He was one of my first amiibo's to be retrained along with a couple others.
Pikachu
1. Tied for my 3rd amiibo along with Mario and Donkey. The 3 were found at Meijer shortly after Christmas.
2. Nicknamed Peekachu.
*giggle*
3. Another lv.50, was retrained along with Fox.
Luigi
1. My 10th amiibo. I got him at Best Buy right before I went to Toysrus down the road to get Yoshi.
2. Nicknamed Weegee because he's Weegee.
e_e
3. Currently lv.37. Retraining him.
Captain Falcon
1. I got him from my grandma as a gift in mid January, I helped pay for it though. tied for my 13th amiibo along with a few others.
2. Nicknamed TheHawk. My Falcon tends to stay in the air and quickly swoop in and out for hits, so my amiibo will do the same.
3. Lv.33 because I'm retraining him.
Peach
1. Tied for my 4th amiibo like Link.
2. Peech. *giggles again*
3. Only lv.21 at the moment, I'm trying to be careful with this one. Because like the characters above, I'm retraining her to be smarter. Problem is, I hardly know how to play Peach in general and I'm learning myself. So I'm taking my time with her.
Bowser
1. My first Wave 3 amiibo was also my 17th. I got him about a week before Lucario on a Sunday. The 25th to be exact.
2. Nicknamed him Bruzer. He was actually named Browser originally, but I changed it at short notice because it sounded better.
3. Currently lv.34. Definitely one of my more experienced amiibo's. I've been trying to get him to use Bowser Bomb more to break shields.
Zelda
1. Tied for my 4th amiibo with a bunch of others. Acquired at TRU.
2. Nicknamed WisdomWiz.
3. At lv.23. I'm taking my time because I wanna teach her how to be a defensive machine. Plus I still have a bunch of others to train. Being retrained.
Sheik
1. Tied for my 19th amiibo, got my Target's last one.
2. Nicknamed Illusive. The name always reminded me of how Sheik is as a character. I don't wanna go all nerd, but she's the fastest character in terms of frame data.
3. Now lv.50. She actually has a good pressure game!
Marth
1. Tied for my 13th amiibo along with Falcon. Gift from my grandma.
2. Nicknamed Mars, a reference to his name in the Fire Emblem anime when it was translated into the US.
3. Currently lv.28, retraining.
Meta Knight
1. My 27th amiibo and my most recent one at that. Was a late Christmas gift from my grandparents. Best Buy exclusive.
2. Nicknamed Mask. I dunno, it beats MaskedPuff in terms of coolness. Probably going to stay that way until I come up with something.
3. Only lv.1. I haven't trained him yet, but I'm determined to make him one of my strongest amiibo.
Pit
1. My 16th amiibo. Another gift from my grandma.
2. Nickamed Capt OPG. It technically stands for "Captain of Palutena's Guard", but I try not to think about when I say his name because it brings down it's 'coolness' factor.
3. Lv.39. Definitely an experienced amiibo, and I must say, he's learned not all that much XD
Ike
1. Obtained a bit later in mid Febuary. My 22nd amiibo I believe.
2. Named him Brawn for the sheer power in his moveset.
3. Lv.1, retraining because he turned retarded.
Diddy Kong
1. My 11th amiibo, aquired at Meijer when I randomly stopped by. His eyes are surprisingly non-derpy.
2. Nicknamed TheMangler... Why? Two words, Monkey Flip.
3. Lv.18. Darn Diddy won't learn anything cool, I'm working on boosting his smarts up.
King Dedede
1. Tied for my 25th amiibo along with Mega Man. A preorder from Walmart.
2. Nicknamed Hammy. If you get this reference, you get a virtual cookie :3
3. Uh... he's only lv.1 lol. I haven't trained him yet. I assure you though, he'll be one heck of a force to reckon with.
Lucario
1. Tied for my 17th amiibo along with Toon Link. Woke up early to grab this Toys 'R' Us exclusive.
2. LuCardio, that is all.
3. Lv.21 at the moment, working on him cuz I have no idea how to play Lucario effectively lol.
Shulk
1. reely
2. feelin
3. et

More info to come!
This vintage postcard illustration, similar to Weegee's later photo of Coney Island, shows wall to wall to wall vacationers and evidence of 'international' cuisine options with the "(Ch)op Suey" sign. Late 20s/early 30s.
The fountain outside the International Center of Photography in NYC. Spent some time in the museum, contemplating the images. A few different exhibits at the moment... One a retrospective of Weegee, the great noir crime photographer in NYC. I came to know him originally from the album cover of an avant garde jazz freakout album with John Zorn called Naked City - LOVE that album - an amalgam of jazz, noise, spy vs spy movie tunes, and a little of everything else... And the album cover by Weegee, a crime scene photo of the most noirish sort, a single dead man from mobster violence on the streets of NYC... SOOO Naked City...
Another exhibit by a Swedish photographer in Paris who photographed the transgender population in the red light district. He had such an eye for beauty, and the beauty was interesting because you did not know (without reading the placards) whether the subjects were male or female or both... That's an exhibit you wouldn't find here in NC very easily...
And finally, an exhibit that was a sort of history of photography - This one really hit me. This one literally had me teary-eyed, even though I had seen the photographs before. There was an image taken during the civil rights fights in the south of woman with the full force of a firehouse greeting her with physical obscenities - in pain, yet she held her ground, she stood firm in her conviction. And a photograph of a Guantanamo detainee, black cap on and wires connected to his outstretched hands - you couldn't see his pain, but you know the look on his face was of torture - he may have been guilty of crimes, crimes he perpetrated based on his beliefs, but where is the line in how he is treated in return?...
And finally, as cliche as the image is, the power of the last image I saw... Mary Ann Vecchio kneeling, crying out in anguish and disbelief, over the body of Jeffrey Miller, who was shot for standing his ground, standing up for his beliefs...
I believe in the power of the people. I believe in equality, justice, and the rights of the individual, and the rights of the community. I believe and I will fight for those beliefs; And I will fight for you to have your beliefs, however wrong or right I believe they are...
And the remarkable things about photographs are that they can capture moments that remind us about why those things are important.

Frank Gehry's Santa Monica deconstructivist house with its add-ons inspires this country estate house with a formal gate entrance as the perfect pretense for a rather bucolic light bench in a valise, perfect for testing a combination of lenses, especially when digitizing vintage cameras during long summer evenings. The valise resembles a tiny clavichord, with a lid painting of a pastoral dance, done in oils.
The intimate quality of the European clavichord gives a slight suggestion of the patient craftsmanship of Weegee working in his photographic lab in the back of his automobile. The scaled dimensions of this optical instrument would fit the trunk of his Chevy Coupe perfectly.

This pinhole speed graphic-styled camera bar is in the style of portable traveling bars. The shutter button is actually just a latch for the rear door, one press and the bar is open for business. The entire interior that you can see here is lined with a plush red velvet. The middle compartment has a richly stained maple door and houses the pinhole assembly which can be removed, thereby not making it function as a camera. It can then have an ice bucket installed temporarily for when the bar has a lot of customers. I was also particularly reminded of 1960's nightclub decor in Hong Kong as well as the Taiwanese Chinese movies of the period, a very nostalgic setting indeed!
The bat is a symbol for prosperity by the way.
Courvosier Brandy being served. Also my very favorite liqueur, Drambuie.
Cigar is a pyramides shape, maybe a nice Fuentes!

I'm fascinated by the adventures of the pioneer aerial photographer Nadar onboard his hot air balloon, "Le Geant", and in particular his tenacity which shows up in the design for the of Gondola for this hot air balloon.
The fact that his first two voyages were failures; the second one descending to the ground and dragging its gondola hundreds of feet across the fields of the countryside, inspired my associations for this design of K-rations for these ancestors of modern day airborne troops.
Oddly, it could be said that Nadar tried to achieve his means by land and by air, like a "bump and run" shot in golf, the most effective weapon in high winds on the golf course.
Drawing from the worlds of Air Force rations and links-styled golf, I propose the very portable set shown (Proceeding clockwise from the top):
1. the gondola of Le Geant is transformed to a Bellows-styled rangefinder camera that is semiautomatic. On the terrace of this "flying cottage" is a set of dials reminiscent of the famous Nikon 35 TI. The lens is behind the main door which extends by virtue of a ladder. A side crank operates the bellows for focusing.
2. The K rations box has an entire round of French livarot cheese, which was a favorite of the Emperor Napoleon the third who was in attendance for the second voyage. The box also contains a cheese knife, Violet flavored chewing gum, matches, a cigar, a divot tool, a box of wooden tees, uneeda hard biscuits (a staple of Weegee's diet), some pain relief medicine, air crew ration box of licorice and a trio of seasonings, the most unusual being a tiny vial of truffle oil with garlic and dehydrated onion, enough to transform the cheese, any fresh loaf of bread and local wine into a heavenly meal.
3. a pewter golf flask with the logo of Le Geant.
4. Dr. Eckener's binoculars (Legendary captain of the Hindenburg).

This homage is for the original producers of the James Bond films, Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman. This was their last Bond film together. And although this film has had an unfortunate early life having been vilified among the other films, it grows well with age and like many other things its time will come.
The design is an upgrade and modification of the original gadget for the film. It is a peaceful variation (it is not a weapon and does not shoot any projectiles). Instead of a cigarette case, we use a small cigar case, and the lighter is no longer a breech for a firing weapon but becomes a film winder for a 6X6 medium format pinhole camera, with a bellows that pulls out of the case allowing for multiple focal lengths and formats as well as a macro to zoom capability. The Leica A's vertical, uncoupled rangefinder also breathes new life into this design as a quasi-kalart rangefinder on the side, still uncoupled. In many respects this camera is basically a Weegee variation. A focusing scale is marked on the pen. This camera is both a subminiature and a press camera. It can also easily be digitized. Except for the red velvet bellows, this entire camera is gold. As a cigar case it holds a single Davidoff Primeros 4.13x34 cigar, recalling the single bullet design for the gun. The lighter works, I do not think the original lighter functioned or could function. The opposite end of the cigar case holds a single replica gold bullet with the 007 initial as a conversation piece and souvenir.
On another note, this must be one of the smallest medium format cameras in the world.

Scenes from Ozu movies from old-fashioned pachinko arcades and Tokyo bars inspired the nostalgic elements of this design which continues one of my series of stationary or wall-hung portrait cameras that convert the room into a Photo booth and studio (see my camera design nos. 57, 69, 74, 78, 79, 84). These objets are my camera version of the 19th century tradition of commissioned grand pianos (or paintings for that matter) which had rooms designed to house them. Imagine building a room for your Ricoh GR1v (this is coming soon from AY, so start saving up).
The tokonoma level is about the correct height on the wall to hang this incense burner pinhole camera with roll film back. It's external flash is a simple salute to Weegee (a single matchstick used to light incense and add aura) who went 'Hollywood' and made in films in his later career. Other components to this folly include: 1. Pez dispensers which started in Austria in 1927, way before the major Ozu films were made.
2. As Ozu's favored method was to imbue objects with emotional meaning. Here the cigarette lighter becomes a nostalgic, lyric relic of memory to which the music clip of Schumann's "Traumerei", one of Ozu's favorite songs, both adds depth and marks the exposure time. The Kinderszenen "Scenes of Childhood" from which Traumerei emerged is playfully and loosely recalled with the Pez idea.
3. The camera body of this pinhole is the shell of boxes of Botan rice candy.
4. The shutter for this pinhole is a tiny replica of a pachinko machine flower which closes over the carefully machined pinhole to make exposures.
4. The incense trails should make interesting atmosphere in pinhole photos.
This design is dedicated to the film director Wim Wenders whose style and reverence for Ozu are an inspiration to me.

The prolific author crafted psychological mysteries of the old school, not far from Agatha Christie in the way that the dialogue moved along swiftly, and in the efficient use of simple language. In my opinion, Simenon uses description in a very filmic way that also is old fashioned.
"L'Affaire Saint Fiacre" was my first Maigret novel. The way this novel is crafted, with sharp and brief details, allows me the latitude that I need to think to weave a very specific design in which Maigret is not too far from Weegee's 1929 Coupe, but for this Parisian Police vehicle, I'm thinking of it more as a touring car which is more for comfort.
My only upgrade to the Maigret's series is to his wardrobe (which was a heavy overcoat), providing a bespoke gentleman's suit with sleeves that could easily be rolled up.
The idea of a traditional picnic hamper for a touring car is modified to be enjoyed inside the vehicle, albeit in a symbolic manner befitting the character of its single occupant.
Therefore, the cab interior functions as a toilette and also as a simple bar room.
The features:
1. A tray set to serve Madame Maigret's plum liqueur.
2. A fruit knife, for the enjoyment of seasonal fruit, such as oranges. This is kept inside Maigret's suit which is stowed in the back as shown. The coat will be thoroughly warmed when Maigret leaves the car.
3. French press coffee, some country bread with a napkin
4. An oil lamp
5. A tiny coal furnace.
6. A toiletry set of a water jug, hot water supply, towel and shaving set.
7. A winding rack of smoking pipes with small bowls, chicken feather cleaners and a large tobacco humidor
8. Green curtains and a cheery Neapolitan ochre wallpaper line the interior.
9. Driver, with a silver calling card tray in the front.
Maigret comes in from the bitter cold and removes his coat, unbuttons and rolls up his sleeves to enjoy the warm French country house comforts of a simple yet leisurely shave. Thereafter he will breakfast with coffee and bread, or receive a visitor for a drink and a pipeful of French tobacco.

The spark for this design was a comment from Mark Strand's book of essays which mentioned that in most of Hopper's paintings the city asserts itself formally rather than realistically.
In this camera the bottom is not fully reconciled, just as in the Hopper painting "Nighthawks" (ca. 1942). It is left hanging along in its own unreconciled position in the camera's overall space or footprint. Its position at the bottom is like in a dirigible--- trailing ever so slightly behind the main action/activity of the photographer and his picture taking. As in the referent painting Nighthawks (c. 1942), the light makes up for the difference, "settling" the shape into its surroundings/environment, to borrow a concept from the game of Wei Chi.
With the thin lozenge-shaped diner housed in clear glass as its foot, the large dark heft of this camera almost seems suspended, reminiscent of Hong Kong's Jumbo Floating restaurant.
The viewfinder design has a split window view, indirectly borrowed from and in the style of the "a house without oku" by the esteemed architectural group Atelier Bow-Wow. I'm getting to understand that viewfinders for any camera related to Edward Hopper has to deal with the idea of the unattainable, which to me is an intrinsic experience of his paintings. 2/3 of the split view is directed forward to the camera's subject and 1/3 of the view is reflected up from inside the diner. The justification for this is to unite the top and bottom of the camera, as well as to subtly point out and contrast the traditional idea of a camera's interior being in total darkness, without light.

A quick overview of what camera gear cost people around 1959—courtesy Olden Camera, with their fonts a bit more legible than most. Try the inflation calculator for some eye-opening comparisons.
Olden was a New York City landmark and THE place to go in its heyday. I gather that it survived, or at least limped into the 21st century but perhaps not far past its cofounder Kurt Olden's 2008 death. The building still stands and is home to Asian snacks & cosmetics, or I ❤ NY tourist swag.

After meeting at a lap-dancing club,,, in Lapland, the Nobel Prize winning wheelchair-bound physicist Professor Stephen Hawking and top Hollywood actor Tom Cruise became the closest of friends.
Convinced by Cruise of the sound reasoning behind L. Ron Hubbard's classically invented religion of Scientology, Professor Hawking became a devout adherent himself, and decided to devote all of his massive scientific braininess, plus [+] some maths, to proving that all the weird space stuff about Thetans, Xenu etc, that's fundamental to the Scientology belief system, was scientifically accurate.
But Tom Cruise reckoned that this would be a waste of "Time" (something which Hawking is a bit of an expert on), and told him of his intense jealousy regarding the runaway commercial success of the salad dressings marketed by ageing rival hollywood actor [the now sadly late] Paul Newman.
Stephen Hawking was so grateful to Cruise for revealing to him the profound truths of the Scientology religion that he agreed to use all of his scientific powers, and nuclear physics itself, to create the finest salad dressing in the Entire Universe[s], which could be sold under the 'Scientology Salad Dressing' label, to raise money and spread the gospel according to old L. Ron, and blow "that old bastard" Newman and his salad dressing away.
For months Hawking toiled away in a secret subterranean Cambridge laboratory full of radioactive materials, egg whites, garlic, and olive oil, plus some top-grade balsamic vinegar, with the invaluable aid of lab assistant John Travolta, when finally his moment of ultimate triumph arrived!
The birth of Professor Stephen Hawking & Tom Cruise's Special Scientology Salad Dressing.
Very, very luckily, I was the only other person present, to capture the amazing moment on my trusty 75 year old Voigtlander Brilliant box camera, loaded with Eddie Olive's special x-pro out-of-date slide film.
I processed it in some of the highly radioactive 'Scientology Salad Dressing' immediately after exposure, then scanned and sharpened with my 'Mac-a-Mania' home-written photo processing software,,, with the above results,
A true "exclusive", I feel!
according to the forecast last night there won't be sky color again until tuesday or maybe wednesday, and i wanted to make something new, so i made to get up extra early to be onsite. Weegee said "f/8 and be there" i figure the hardest part of making a good landscape photo is being somewhere amazing at the right time, the rest is just going through the motions-like. i mean sometimes, about maybe 3 in 10 times i'll get to a gorgeous place in the park with the skies blowing up with beauty and i'm running tripping and falling in the snow bouncing from this foreground to that one just knowing that chances are that something will look good later. other times it's kind of a bust so instead of just giving up i like to hear the sound of the shutter go and thereby, try to make something happen. so this is one of those times of that latter example, but in the end i really kind of like it. shot at f/4.0 to limit depth of field and more suggest the features of Otter cliffs than show them. have a nice day from Maine USA.

Updated my pic, and how I display my amiibo. All my info from the last pic will be posted here from now on. I have 27/29 of the released amiibo so far!
Mario
3. Currently lv.26 Been focusing on other characters.
Marth
3. Lv. 22 because I haven't trained been training him lately.
Diddy Kong
