The town of San Ysidro was formed around 1699 and "granted" by the Governor of New Mexico in 1786.

“San Ysidro was named for the patron saint of farmers, an 11th century Spanish saint, who is widely celebrated throughout New Mexico. He is depicted wearing blue trousers, red shirt and flat hat (a typical costume of pioneer farmers) with a plow and ox team, accompanied by an angel. The legend says the angel does his plowing while he is at prayer.” (Sandoval County historical webpage)

I can’t find much on the earlier community church(es), but the current adobe church, shown in this image, has rural NM character, was built in 1947 and is too close to St. Rt. 4!

While working the top of the mountain, and scenes from a nearby ridge, it was this shot in the distance that caught my attention. The Dolomites certainly has its fair share of photographic eye candy.

#TBT: STS-91 Launches for Final Shuttle-Mir Docking – June 2, 1998 by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center

This week in 1998, space shuttle Discovery, mission STS-91, launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on the ninth and final docking of a shuttle and Russia’s Mir space station. The successful nine-day mission featured the first in-orbit test of the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer and the first use of the space shuttle super lightweight external tank. Today, the Payload Operations Integration Center at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center serves as “science central” for the International Space Station, working 24/7, 365 days a year in support of the orbiting laboratory’s science experiments. After 20 years of continuous human presence, the space station remains the sole space-based proving ground and stepping stone toward achieving the goals of the Artemis program. The NASA History Program is responsible for generating, disseminating and preserving NASA’s remarkable history and providing a comprehensive understanding of the institutional, cultural, social, political, economic, technological and scientific aspects of NASA’s activities in aeronautics and space.
