ezimba is a web site that can apply different imaging effects.

I used one picture for all the effects just for consistency for comparison. The title for each photo consists of the category of the effect and the name of the effect. Some effects would be better used on a different image. There are some effects also that appear to do the same thing in different effect categories.

Ezimba also has a Facebook app, Google Android app, and a free iPhone app. Please note that the free iPhone app puts a small logo on the edited image. You can buy the paid ezimba app and not have the logo.

3624 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.

Built in 1889. Architect: Joseph A. Thain.

From the Chicago Landmarks web site: From 1919 to 1930, this was the home of journalist-civil rights activist Ida Bell Wells and her lawyer-journalist husband, Ferdinand Lee Barnett. Wells' outspoken criticism--in her weekly newspaper columns--of lynching and mob violence stirred the nation, and brought international attention to racially motivated brutality. This residence, the only direct physical link to Wells' life in Chicago, incorporates elements of the Romanesque Revival and Queen Anne styles of architecture.

So, another flickr user and I were chatting about the relatively poor service provided by MOO. We were both agreeing it's tough to give them out, as we'd have to give out cards of compromised quality and have to reorder eventually. The delivery time is awful... hers took 2 months, me a month... and the color fidelity is awful. Personally, I'd like a full biz card size option, too, or the possibility of controlling the length of the print run (i.e., more than 100 cards).

Got me to thinking. I know the owner of one of the U.S.'s largest quick-print firms, one that specializes in short-run variable-data color print jobs using Xerox iGen printers. That company has already developed cool web-apps for generating color pieces -- far cooler than the MOO mini card concept -- and could easily handle this sort of app if the money were good.

So I sent him the MOO link. Maybe we'll have a good state-side option. If anyone would do it, this guy would.

Front Garden

201 Guildwood Pkwy, Scarborough

You can’t miss the first folly of our tour! Towering over the parking lot are four Ionic columns spanned by an architrave that are the last remnants of Toronto’s Bankers Bond Building. This artifact is a gateway to another era and your welcome to Guild Park.

Like most pieces in the park, these columns came from a demolished building, a result of the building boom frenzy in downtown Toronto during the 60s and 70s. Many of the buildings featured in this tour once stood near King and Bay streets and were demolished to make way for today’s financial district. This building is no different.

Constructed in 1920 and demolished in 1973, the Bankers Bond Building was designed by J. A. Mackenzie, and used to stand on King Street, just west of Bay Street. The columns were part of the front facade of the neoclassical building and were modelled after the Erechtheum Temple on the Acropolis in Athens. As you pass under the columns you’ll notice the lintel framing the path into the park. On the original building the lintel actually hung over the door on the right side but was moved to the middle third when the columns arrived at the park. The small change gave the columns renewed purpose as today’s entrance to Guild Park where they are surrounded by other recovered fragments of the city’s history.

The MoMA has audio tours as a webapp for the iPhone and iPod Touch. No need to drop off your ID for an audio gadget...Just one more reason to have an iPhone...total geekery.

I decided not to drywall the ceiling but put Film-Gard instead. I didn't want anything too permanent on the ceiling just in case I need to access the drainage pipe. It was easy to install with a staple gun and keeps the light out well. There are some spots where I need to use duct/gaffer tape to completely seal off the light but for the most part, it's working well for me.

I used two separate surge protectors: one to turn on the main light and the other for the darkroom equipment (enlarger, darkroom lights, etc). I'm not an electrician so I don't know how to hard wire things in.
