A tribute to a Traveller PBEM game I was in. Built using a web based image generator.
The original thrust of the game was a band made of various types who could play music and handle extra side jobs.
For example, my character was a retired Imperial Navy hacker, errr...EWarfare Specialist. She was the groups roadie.
The GM had other ideas. We never played, we never toured, we just got dumped on, a lot. Oh it was interesting and fun, but not what we signed up for.
Oh ya, we really were shot down on tour. We were on our way to our first gig, off world off course. Of course we got caught in a misjump, and crash landed on a low tech, red zoned world with our ship quickly breaking through the ice and sinking to the bottom of the ocean with one of the characters in a low berth and most of our gear.
Any high tech gear we had left was quickly stripped away by a series of natural disasters. Not an ideal situation for an electronics tech trained to hack into TL 12-15 computers.
I created this Web site to track Web-based political campaign software as well as to be more knowledgeable abut local Chicago political issues.

Part of the phone book page is not there - what do you do? Head for a web-based option? The 'yellow pages' were considered a valuable source of information...similar to the encyclopedia - but with the ubiquitous digital world, their value has depreciated considerably!
It is interesting to note, though, that certain reading strategies could be utilized here to predict the remaining text (i.e., EME and SE in the lower right - Emergency Service) - do you see others? Just as important is the need to discover or validate information (i.e., FISHING TA is what? or is Nap part of Naples or something else?). We often start our day without complete information - what do you do to seek out and insure the accuracy of missing pieces? ... or do you? The EVE monument is an a outdoor sculpture by the artist Sigurður Guðmundsson. It stands at over five meters tall and consists of two main elements facing each other through a highly polished stainless steel surface in the middle that reflects and mirrors the elements and the landscape. On the left side of the model stands a dark aluminum structure with a quote from the EVE Universe and on the right a dark granite facial figure representing the players behind the game.
The monument stands atop a half meter tall metal-plated concrete platform that has the names of all the “main characters” of all active EVE Online players etched upon it. This list of active, paying players was be captured on March 1st, 2014. Under the monument a buried laptop serves as a time capsule with videos, messages, wishes and more from the players and the development staff. A web-based application assists in finding specific names on the monument‘s surface. The monument was unveiled on Wednesday April 30th, a day before Fanfest 2014, the annual gathering celebrating the EVE Universe held at Harpa Concert and Convention Center in downtown Reykjavik.

DLECTRICITY 2012 Installation, Artist: NBNY.
Nuit Blanche New York (NBNY) presents a curated collaborative response by artists, writers, architects, and urbanists to the multitude of visions of the new city. Through a unique online visual platform, participants in New York and Detroit visually interpreted a glossary of writing about Detroit as a collage of moving images, photographs and illustrations. These works have been facilitated by NBNY using an innovative new tool, ToBe– a web-based interface that allows users to collage media in a canvas where they can draw and modify a shared palette of shifting content. Juxtaposing outsiders and locals, the project takes inspiration from How to Recuperate an Urban Crisis, Andrew Herscher’s important new glossary of urban figurations on Detroit. “ToBe Detroit” illustrates the complication and conflict of perception and offers a platform for visual dialog as a means to explore community across geographic boundaries.

TypeTogether was entrusted to develop QlikView Sans, a custom four-style typeface for the software company QlikTech International, which specialises in web-based applications for self-service data visualisation. The primary goals were to create a typeface that performs well on digital platforms in small pixel sizes, works naturally and effectively with large amounts of data, and unifies the look and feel of Qlik’s products internationally. TypeTogether added carefully chosen humanistic elements to grotesque letter structures to create an exclusive typeface that excels in function, clarity, and has an easygoing tone — QlikView Sans. On the occasion of the launch of the 2013 Arctic Summer College, CSIS’s Europe Program and the Ecologic Institute were pleased to welcome Mr. William M. Eichbaum, vice president of Marine and Arctic Policy of the World Wildlife Fund, Mr. R. Andreas Kraemer, director of the Ecologic Institute, and Dr. Kelly K. Falkner, director of Polar Programs of the National Science Foundation for a conversation on the environmental and social impacts of a rapidly changing Arctic.
As we witness record-breaking Arctic sea ice losses and dramatic changes to Arctic ecosystems, concerns increase about an acceleration of change due to the release of methane as well as short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) such as black carbon. Panelists will discuss the consequences of reduced sea ice extent and thickness and the environmental and policy implications of destabilized and diminished ice sheets for fisheries and shipping, intensified storms and ocean temperatures, acidification, and salinity.
The Arctic Summer College creates a network of emerging leaders and experts that are brought together for 8 weeks in web-based seminars and online discussion fora. The program aims to build a lasting, policy-oriented network of Arctic professionals to strengthen communication between peoples and nations, scientific disciplines, policy areas, and across the science-policy interface to improve environmental governance in the Arctic region. CSIS and WWF, along with IUCN, and the Embassy of Canada, Berlin, are partners in collaboration with Ecologic Institute for the Arctic Summer College.
