A few yards from the tram stop where we waited for the No.14 tram, pedale.forchetta and I spotted this young man absorbed in his laptop. Taking advantage of a wi-fi connection he had found this young man was engrossed in quite lengthy and obviously urgent web-based emailing.

Sorry I can't bring you more information about the subject of his communications. It would have meant interrupting him in what was clearly an urgent matter, and the no.14 tram arrived just as we were debating the issue.

JAKARTA WELCOMES ITS FIRST TUNE HOTEL

Value branded hotel chain continues its expansion in Indonesia

Jakarta, 3 September 2012 – Tune Hotels, the global branded value hotel chain, continues to expand in Indonesia with the opening of its latest hotel in Pasar Baru, Jakarta. Tune Hotel Pasar Baru would represent the global brand’s third property in Indonesia, (following Tune Hotel Kuta and Legian in Bali) and the first hotel in central Jakarta, offering world-class accommodation at extremely affordable rates, providing the essentials for a good night’s sleep. Tune Hotel Pasar Baru has 168 rooms in total, 125 Doubles, 42 Twin-sharing and a special needs room. The opening of Tune Hotel Pasar Baru was attended by popular Indonesian celebrities Nicholas Saputra and Izabel Jahja.

The expansion of the Tune Hotel brand in Indonesia is spurred by the country’s strong economy, rising number of tourists and favorable business environment. Jakarta is one of the largest cities in the world and ranked third after Bali and Sulawesi recording the highest hotel room occupancy in Indonesia according to the Statistics Indonesia of the Republic Indonesia. Pasar Baru is one of Jakarta’s most popular tourist destination and its central location is also ideal for business activities. Known for its shopping experience, visitors can “go back in time” to take in the beauty of its Dutch influenced colonial and Chinese architecture of its buildings as one strolls along the coble stone streets.

According to Mark Lankester, Group CEO of Tune Hotels, “Jakarta represents a gateway for leisure travellers more often as a stop-over before continuing their journey to other popular destinations such as Bali, Medan, Yogyakarta and Surabaya. Nevertheless Jakarta also serves as a central business destination drawing frequent business travellers from the South East Asian region and domestically within Indonesia as well. Hence, the opening of Tune Hotel Pasar Baru would cater to the needs of leisure and business travellers looking for convenient, comfortable and value-for-money accommodation. “

Lankester added that more expansion plans are on the way for the Tune Hotel brand in Indonesia which includes Pekan Baru, Makassar, Solo, Palembang and Surabaya. The vast country of sprawling archipelago has much to offer; from natural beauty, historical heritage to cultural diversity. Moreover, statistics from the Travel and Tourism Competitive Index (TTCI) in 2011 ranks Indonesia as the thirteenth most attractive destination in the Asia-Pacific to commence travel and tourism business operations.

Other Tune Hotel properties in Indonesia are located in Kuta and Legian, Bali which have been a favourite among visitors to Bali. The hotels’ popularity was recognized when it was named among the Top 20 Indonesia Innovative Brands of 2011 by Indonesia’s leading marketing industry magazine, MIX. It was Tune Hotels' innovativeness to its ability to serve the practical needs of tourists by giving them the best value that garnered the attention and illustrated by Legian and Kuta hotels being ranked #3 and #7 Best Value Hotels in Bali on TripAdvisor. Tune Hotels was selected along with other global leading brands to be named on the list and the only Malaysian-originated brand.

Red Planet Hotels owns and operates the Tune Hotel Pasar Baru in close association with Tune Hotel and its Chief Executive Officer, Tim Hansing, said that this hotel was the first of many more to come in Indonesia from Red Planet as the Tune brand expands across the country.

“This is the first hotel of eight more we have under construction in Indonesia and we will have some exciting announcements about more sites we are in the midst of acquiring. We are making some significant investments in Indonesia in the budget hotel sector as we have full confidence in the potential of Indonesia and the Indonesian travel sector to grow this market” said Hansing.

Tune Hotels currently has eleven hotels in Malaysia, four in LondonUnited Kingdom, four in The Philippines and two in Thailand. Hotels in Malaysia are located in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, KLIA-LCCT Airport, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Johor Bahru, Kota Damansara, Bintulu, Kota Bharu, Kulim and Ipoh.

Hotels in Asia includes Hat Yai and Pattaya in Thailand; Angeles City, Cebu City, Ermita and Makati, Manila in The Philippines; Kuta and Legian in Bali and Pasar Baru, Jakarta in Indonesia; Westminster, Liverpool Street, Paddington and Kings Cross in London, UK. Tune Hotels has successfully pioneered a branded value hotel brand with the concept of pay-as-you-use that has become hugely popular amongst travelers from across the world. Under the concept, guests only pay for room rates with the option of adding on other amenities like towels & toiletries, air-conditioning, in-room Wifi and satellite TV service at selected hotels.

Calling on guests to stay connected with Tune Hotels via the social media networks Facebook and Twitter, Mark Lankester, says “More Tune Hotels are scheduled for opening in Asean, the UK, India and Australia, that will give our guests even more options for travel destinations. We encourage guests to stay tuned for Tune Hotels’ latest openings and promotions via Facebook and Twitter.”

ALOR SETAR, 2 June 2014 – Kedah’s state capital of Alor Setar will see its old city quarter undergo a facelift with the arrival of a new hotel by the international value hotel group Tune Hotels.

Bangunan HBR in Jalan Langgar here will be refurbished to house the 88-room Tune Hotel Alor Setar that is scheduled for opening by the end of November this year.

A signing ceremony was held today between HBR Group and Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad (Bank Rakyat) for a RM12 million financing facility for the project.

Group CEO Khairil Akmal Hanafi signed for HBR Group while Bank Rakyat was represented by Senior Vice President for Corporate Banking Abdul Razak Abu Bakar. The ceremony was witnessed by State Executive Councillor for Tourism Dato’ Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid.

HBR Group is a second generation family business founded by the late Dato’ Haji Hanafi Ramli in 1977 and now moving aggressively towards hospitality and property development business as part of the group’s transformation programme initiated by Khairil Akmal back in 2012.

Khairil said: “We are very pleased to be working with Tune Hotels in bringing its internationally renowned brand and expertise into Alor Setar. This is a highly anticipated project which I am sure everyone in Alor Setar and Kedah in general will be proud of. This hotel will certainly provide a boost to tourism in the state.”

Meanwhile, Group CEO of Tune Hotels Mark Lankester said: “Tune Hotel Alor Setar is a unique project for the state, HBR Group and ourselves. The art deco design of the building isn’t often found in Malaysia and we intend to preserve much of it, much in the same way many of the hotels in Miami, Florida have been realised. Naturally we will be adding all the modern conveniences and flair that you will have seen with the recent openings in Malaysia of the Tune Hotels in klia2, Taiping and imminently, Cyberjaya.”

“For our chain, we have been looking to connect Northern-most Peninsular Malaysia to Southern Thailand, where we have the Tune Hotel in Hat Yai and Phuket. This opportunity does precisely that and having hotels in both cities perfectly compliments the needs of our guests,” added Mark.

Tune Hotel Alor Setar will be the group’s second property in Kedah, after Tune Hotel Kulim in the southern part of the state. Other Tune Hotels located in the northern region include in George Town, Penang and Taiping, Perak.

Most of the rooms at Tune Hotel Alor Setar will feature an individual private garden set in a balcony overseeing the city, the first of its kind in Alor Setar.

The new Tune Hotel will be in close proximity to all the major Kedah state government offices, the new Alor Setar railway station and Pekan Rabu, the city’s popular regional product community market. Historic and iconic buildings and monuments like Masjid Zahir, Balai Seni, the Royal Museum and the 165-metre Alor Setar Tower are within a short distance from the hotel.

Kedah, located in the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia bordering Thailand, is best known as the country’s rice bowl due to its vast and developed paddy plantations. Tourism has become an increasingly significant contributor to the state’s economy, which together with Penang, Perlis and northern Perak form the Northern Corridor Economic Region.

Tune Hotels is part of Tune Group, a lifestyle business conglomerate co-founded by Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, who are the Group CEO and Executive Chairman respectively of Asia’s largest low cost carrier the AirAsia Group.

There are currently 45 Tune Hotels available for booking across Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, England, Scotland, Australia, India and Japan.

Ketua Eksekutif Kumpulan Khairil Akmal Hanafi menandatangani bagi pihak Kumpulan HBR manakala Bank Rakyat diwakili Naib Presiden Kanan Perbankan Korporat Abdul Razak Abu Bakar.

Overwhelming response to Tune Hotel klia2 since 9 May opening

SEPANG, 5 June 2014 – Over 200 winners descended upon the brand new Tune Hotel klia2 and enjoyed a fun-filled evening as the hotel organised a ‘Pyjama Party’ to celebrate its recent opening last weekend.

Ten individual winners of the Tune Hotels’ #RoomerHasIt Facebook campaign were able to invite family and friends to enjoy a further 10 complimentary double rooms for a sleepover at Tune Hotel klia2 and join in for the celebration in their sleeping garb.

Award-winning recording artiste and singer-songwriter Melissa Indot, YouTube sensation Elizabeth Tan and Tune Hotels’ very own Eugene See entertained with performances of their own hit songs and popular interpretations.

International journalists and bloggers from Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Australia and Taiwan were also flown in courtesy of AirAsia and AirAsia X. The event was also made possible by partner-sponsors including Tune Talk Mobile Prepaid, the AirAsia BIG Loyalty Programme, Doof The World Sdn Bhd and TripAdvisor, whose mascot Ollie the Owl made a special appearance.

Group CEO of Tune Hotels Mark Lankester said: “We are thrilled with the opening of Tune Hotel klia2 which has already received an overwhelming response and very strong forward bookings from travellers around the region. Through the #RoomerHasIt social media campaign we wanted to introduce and create further awareness of our latest design and fit-out to previous guests as well as the fantastic facilities at klia2, the world’s largest purpose-built airport for low cost carriers. There’s no better way to do that than have them immersed in the hotel itself.”

He said with Tune Hotel klia2, guests now have a superior accommodation option that is not only great value for money but also features improvements to its international-standard offerings. With 400 rooms, the hotel is directly connected to the new Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) Terminal via a covered walkway and link bridge, allowing easy and more convenient access as well as the Gateway@klia2 shopping mall. For ultimate convenience, the hotel features AirAsia self check-in kiosks in the lobby.

“Much has been said about the huge size of the new klia2 Terminal and it is impressively large. By hosting these winners and their guests at the Tune Hotel klia2, we want to illustrate just how convenient it is to have a great sleep or enjoy the services within the hotel while waiting for their next flight, and the convenience of strolling over to the terminal without rushing and with time on your side. Business and leisure guests as well as airline passengers on connecting flight extended waits will enjoy a totally improved experience and most importantly a very comfortable and refreshing stay, with more amenities,” said Lankester.

On top of that, he said, guests at Tune Hotel klia2 enjoy great connectivity to KL city and its surrounding suburbs as the klia2 Terminal boasts not only bus and taxi services but also the Express Rail Link (ERL) train service that connects to and from Kuala Lumpur Sentral. “As you can see, from klia2 guests and travellers can easily connect and enjoy our hotel service network depending on their preferences and travel purpose. In the heart of KL city they will find the hugely popular Tune Hotel Downtown Kuala Lumpur that is right smack in the centre and in the surroundings we have the Tune Hotel Kota Damansara as well as the soon-to-open Tune Hotel DPulze Cyberjaya, not to mention excellent flight connectivity, direct and indirect, to key cities and destinations in Malaysia and the whole region including Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, India, Japan and even as far as England and Scotland, all destinations where the Tune Hotels network is present,” he added.

Tune Hotels has innovatively transformed the guestroom experience into a modern-style accommodation featuring the all-new room design with a sleek writing table, luggage platform and a 32-inch flat screen LED TV, bringing about an improved, sophisticated but cool ambience throughout the Tune Hotel klia2.

To add to the guest experience and comfort, the hotel’s spacious lobby features a cool casual seating lounge with free wifi and an expansive open-air courtyard lounge, overlooked by a 24-hour restaurant and beverage centre. For guests with further transportation needs, the hotel includes a transport counter for overland transport needs and for flights, two AirAsia self check-in kiosks and klia2’s flight information displays are provided within the lobby for added convenience to hotel guests.

The hotel also features 167 parking bays which are conveniently located just a few steps away from the airport terminal.

With a projected annual capacity of 45 million passengers, the klia2 is the world's largest purpose-built terminal dedicated for low cost carriers (LCCs). The new airport commenced commercial operations on 2 May 2014.

TUNE HOTELS WINNERS TAKE OVER AND PARTY AT klia2 NEW HOTEL

For guests arriving at or departing from the KLIA Main Terminal, they can make use of the scheduled shuttle service via the ERL that costs just RM2 one way and stroll over to the hotel via its covered link bridge.

Anorexia is the most deadly mental illness. A person with the disease has a dangerously low body weight and thinks about food constantly, but limits the amount eaten to gain a sense of control over their lives. 12% of people who develop anorexia will die from complications. The mortality rate for eating disorders is 12 times higher than that of all other illnesses for females 15-24 years old. 85% of anorexics and bulimics are female, but the incidence in males is growing. NEWS RELEASE

TUNE HOTEL MELBOURNE OFFICIALLY OPENS!

AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND BECKON

First hotel in Australia officially opened by Premier Denis Napthine

MELBOURNE, 8 November 2013 – International value hotel group Tune Hotels has stamped its first footprint in Australia with the official opening of the Tune Hotel Melbourne. The Group has plans to expand this footprint within the Australasia region and Melbourne will be its operational hub.

The 225-room property was officially launched today during a ceremony attended by Premier of Victoria Dr Denis Napthine, Malaysia’s Consul-General in Melbourne Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez Yahaya and Group CEO of Tune Hotels Mark Lankester.

Premier Napthine said: “Tune Hotels Group’s decision to open its first Australian hotel and base its operations here in Melbourne will create more than 100 direct and indirect local jobs. This decision by Tune Hotels Group is a major vote of confidence in Victoria and our economy. Tune Hotel Melbourne brings a new model of accommodation to Australia, and I am very proud that Melbourne is at the forefront of this new tourism concept. As Australia's events capital, Melbourne offers visitors access to world-class sporting and cultural events.”

The official opening came just a couple of days after Melbourne’s biggest social event, the Melbourne Cup Spring Racing Carnival on Tuesday. Tune Hotel Melbourne had soft-opened for business on 21 October, two weeks ahead of its 1 November scheduled date and celebrated that with a super low launch rate of just A$50 a night - one of the most affordable room rates seen in central Melbourne for years!

Located at 609 Swanston Street, Carlton, Melbourne, Tune Hotel Melbourne is conveniently located next to the University of Melbourne and a stroll to RMIT University, just two streets away from the popular eateries of Lygon Street, around the corner from Queen Victoria Market and minutes to Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD) via the trams which stop outside the hotel.

The hotel features an indoor open air courtyard, a recreational lounge, a restaurant, café, luggage storage, self-service launderette and free Internet desks on the ground floor. In addition the hotel is equipped with basement car parks - something unusual for city centre hotels in Australia.

Melbourne will also be the location for Tune Hotels’ operational headquarters overseeing Australia and New Zealand operations, working in conjunction with the corporate office in Kuala Lumpur and creating up to 100 jobs.

“We are very excited to have finally established our first hotel in Australia right here in Melbourne, giving business and leisure visitors to this amazing city a truly compelling choice of accommodation alternative. As Australia’s events capital, Melbourne is a great market for Tune Hotels, as it boasts a rich calendar of theatre, sporting and arts and cultural events, and we have experienced strong forward bookings since announcing our entry into the market in June,” Lankester said.

“We would like to thank the Victorian Government, Tourism Victoria, Tourism Australia as well as the City of Melbourne for their invaluable and continued support of Tune Hotels. Given our long term plans for this region, the Tune Hotel Melbourne is just the beginning for what we have planned for the Tune Hotels concept in Australia and New Zealand and travellers can expect to see more hotels opening in the region in the coming years.”

Tune Hotel Melbourne is the 34th property for Tune Hotels, which has pioneered a “pay-as-you-use” concept that has become hugely popular among smart travellers from across the world. Under the concept, guests only pay for room rates with the option of adding on other amenities like towels and toiletries, in-room Wi-Fi and satellite TV service to keep costs down, reduce waste and save energy.

Apart from Tune Hotel Melbourne, the group has eleven hotels in operation and available for booking in in Malaysia, eight in the Philippines, six in Indonesia, five in the UK, four in Thailand and one each in India and Japan.

Tune Hotels provides international-class high-quality accommodation at central locations and focuses on key essentials but minus the generally underused facilities found in other hotels such as swimming pools, business centres and gymnasiums. By doing away with these costly and high-maintenance facilities, Tune Hotels is able to pass on savings to its guests in the form of super low room rates.

All Tune Hotels feature space-efficient, streamlined rooms focusing on high-quality basics: 5-star beds and powerful hot showers. The strategically located hotels provide housekeeping services, electronic keycard access into rooms, extensive CCTV systems, and no access into the main lobby without a keycard past midnight for extra security.

Tune Hotels is part of Tune Group, a lifestyle business conglomerate co-founded by Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Dato’ Kamarudin Meranun, who are the Group CEO and Executive Chairman respectively of Asia’s largest low cost carrier AirAsia.

CATCH TUNE HOTELS’ ROOM ON WHEELS THIS SCHOOL HOLIDAY

Caravan presents new room design as it travels across Peninsula

KUALA LUMPUR, 30 May 2013 – Tune Hotels, which currently has 29 hotels in operations across six countries, has taken its newly rebranded hotel room design to the public via a caravan roadshow that would cover at least 32 destinations across major cities in the Peninsula this school holiday.

The specially-designed caravan truck carrying Tune Hotels’ room replica that bears its new brand standard, kicked off its journey from Petaling Jaya last Friday heading up north with stops at various spots in Ipoh, Penang and Alor Setar.

Tune Hotels’ Room on Wheels would then proceed to Kuantan, Johor Bahru, Melaka, LCCT Sepang, Cyberjaya and Putrajaya throughout the two-week school holidays. It will also be making stops at popular rest and relaxation (R&R) areas along the highways.

“Tune Hotels’ Room on Wheels is another of our innovative effort to bring the unique concept of our hotel to the public. We have adopted a vigorously-rebranded room design for our newer hotels including the recently refurbished Tune Hotel Downtown KL and we would like to invite everyone to experience our quality and comfort,” said Mark Lankester, Group CEO of Tune Hotels.

Visitors stand a chance to win exclusive Tune Hotels merchandise including T-shirts, caps, key rings and car stickers.

“We would like to invite more and more people to experience the Tune Hotels hospitality as we pursue a conscious policy of being environmental-friendly by optimising use of available resources, reduction of waste and by introducing processes that save on energy consumption. We are very pleased that our guests have endorsed our operations that encourage lifestyles that protect the environment,” added Mark.

Tune Hotels currently has 11 hotels in operation in Malaysia, five in the UK, four each in Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines with the latest addition being Tune Hotel Ahmedabad that has just opened this month in Gujarat, India. Tune Hotels is set to open properties in Japan and Australia this year while future projects are also coming up in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

Providing international standard, high quality accommodation by focusing on key essentials but minus the generally underutilised facilities commonly found in other hotels such as swimming pools, business centres and gymnasiums, Tune Hotels keeps its operating costs low and savings are passed on to guests in the form of super low rates.

Tune Hotels has received almost five million guests since the opening of its first hotel in Downtown Kuala Lumpur in 2007.

TUNE HOTELS STRENGTHENS FOOTHOLD IN PHILIPPINES

Latest hotel opening in Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao

Tune Hotel Cagayan de Oro located on C. M. Recto Avenue.

Hi-res photos can be downloaded from www.flickr.com/tunehotels

MANILA, July 18, 2013 – International hotel group Tune Hotels has widened its presence in the Philippines with the opening of its first hotel in the southern island of Mindanao at Cagayan de Oro City.

Tune Hotels Group CEO Mark Lankester said: “Tune Hotels is really proud to be in CDO, our fifth footprint in the Philippines. Thanks to the booming Philippine economy and its very healthy tourist arrivals, we are very pleased with our performance here since we opened our very first Philippine hotel at Angeles City, Pampanga more than two years ago. At least five more Tune Hotels are scheduled for opening in the Philippines over the next 18 months, including in Davao City in Mindanao and Quezon City in Manila later this year.”

Welcoming its first guests this Friday (July 19, 2013), the 159-room Tune Hotel Cagayan de Oro is Tune Hotels’ fifth property in the Philippines, after Angeles City, Ermita and Makati in Manila, and Cebu City.

Conveniently located on C. M. Recto Avenue along the highway to Iligan and Butuan, Tune Hotel CDO is right in the heart of the Lapasan Central Business District and walking distance to the Limketkai Center and Centrio Mall. While the Mindanao University of Science and Technology campus is also nearby, food and shopping establishments are all within the vicinity.

Cagayan de Oro or CDO as it is widely known, is the 10th largest city in the Philippines and is the capital city of the province of Misamis Oriental in Mindanao.

Particularly famous for its whitewater rafting and kayaking adventures, CDO also offers a host of other extreme water sports activities such as water tubing and river trekking. Historical tours and shopping are also part of the must-do list when in CDO.

“The Philippines is a priority market for Tune Hotels. With the rise of budget travel packages from airlines and increase in business travels, there’s a high demand for value hotels that provide affordable, safe, clean, convenient and comfortable accommodations and that’s precisely what Tune Hotels is all about,” added Mark.

“Our focused business model of providing the quality basic essentials to travelers so that they are guaranteed a comfortable 5-star bed and a great shower means that we can make our room rates as attractive as possible, consistently. By eliminating services that they do not need, we allow people to save more so they can stay in tune to what matters most when they travel.”

Tune Hotels provides international-class high-quality accommodation which focuses on key essentials but minus the generally underused facilities found in other hotels such as swimming pools, business centres and gymnasiums. By doing away with these costly and high-maintenance facilities, Tune Hotels is able to pass on savings to its guests in the form of super low room rates. Its pay-as-you-use concept lets travellers choose and pay only for amenities that they require to keep costs down, reduce waste and save energy.

The group has received almost five million guests since the opening of its first hotel in Downtown Kuala Lumpur in 2007. With the opening of CDO, Tune Hotels how has five hotels in the Philippines, 11 in Malaysia, five in the UK, four each in Thailand and Indonesia, and one in India. The company is set to open another property in Japan and Australia this year while future projects are planned in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

Tune Hotels is part of Tune Group, a lifestyle business conglomerate co-founded by Tony Fernandes and Kamarudin Meranun, who are the Group CEO and Deputy Group CEO respectively of Asia’s largest low cost carrier AirAsia.

For guests arriving at or departing from the KLIA Main Terminal, they can make use of the scheduled shuttle service via the ERL that costs just RM2 one way and stroll over to the hotel via its covered link bridge.

Tune Hotels is part of Tune Group, a lifestyle business conglomerate co-founded by Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, who are the Group CEO and Executive Chairman respectively of Asia’s largest low cost carrier AirAsia.

WINNER OF THE TRANSMEDIALE.09 AWARD

Jury Statement:

"Profound and dense, this work will be remade for transmediale after showings in 2008 in San Jose at 0l and in Italy at Manifesta7. It has been nominated for its quality of execution, density of imagination as well as conceptual and metaphorical strengths. It operates on many levels – casting light on the memory of the more than three million people who have died in wars in the Congo over the last ten years—through the use of telephony combined with computation. A rack of electromagnetic Strowger telephony switches is triggered by a computer that tracks calls from the 'Telephone Trottoire,' a 'social telephony' network designed for an international Congolese diaspora. This project builds on the Congolese practice of 'radio trottoire' – passing news and hearsay on street corners by word-of-mouth to avoid state control. Its imaginative breadth and its integration of socio-political objectives were seen by the jury as exceptional. The artists have established a substantial track record in engaging with subjects that impact us globally but are initially manifested locally, and their work is well-deserving of acknowledgement within transmediale 09."

Man With A Movie Camera: The Global Remake

Perry Bard (2008)

The video artist Perry Bard invites people to a collaborative web-based, database-generated montage experiment. Using Dziga Vertovs masterpiece from 1929 as direct inspiration, participants from all over the world can upload footage on the website next to the corresponding scenes from the original film. Uploaded digital media from photo cameras, video recorders and screen-grabs form part of the new interpretation. The lengths and images of submitted videos are synchronised with the original scenes through software, which then rotates the added material every day, ensuring the film may never be the same twice. Bard’s project transports Vertov’s impressions about the Soviet cities in his experimental silent film into the 21st century and becomes, in Vertov’s terms, the “decoding of life as it is.”.

ELTON JOHN & BAND GREATEST HITS TOUR

8PM, TUESDAY 22, NOVEMBER 2011

ARENA OF STARS, GENTING

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 October 2011 – Tune Live, the entertainment arm of Tune Group, is proud to announce the long-awaited tour by Elton John and his highly acclaimed band to the Arena of Stars, Genting, this November 22nd, 2011. Tune Live is the promoter for the concert.

For Elton, putting together a “Greatest Hits Tour” has always been a great passion, not least because he’ll be joined on the road once again by his long-time band; Davey Johnstone, Nigel Olsson, Bob Birch, Kim Bullard and John Mahon, All dedicated and superbly talented musicians who have been playing alongside the piano man for many years.

Another highlight for 2011 are the four backing singers, which include the incredible Rose Stone (Sly And The Family Stone) together with Lisa Stone, Tata Vega and Jean Witherspoon. Their stunning harmonies will light up every corner of the arena this November. This will be the first time that 2CELLOS will join the ensemble. The young Croatian duo, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser recently took YouTube by storm, quickly landing a recording deal with Sony Music.

Elton’s most recent studio album “The Union”, released by Universal Music in October 2010 was recorded with Elton’s long-time musical idol and world-renowned pianist and songwriter, Leon Russell. “The Union” sees the duo and a glittering array of guests get back to the nitty-gritty of what they love about rock n’ roll. For Elton, working with Russell had been a life-long ambition. “When I started, he was my idol, mentor and everything I wanted to be as a song-writer.” says Elton. “In the last third of my life, I want to make records that I really want to make.”

To mark over forty years of chart topping success, Universal Music Malaysia will be re-launching Elton’s entire music catalogue on CD and DVD, as well as digital downloads via online music stores.

Over his 40 year career, Elton John has won an impressive 5 Grammy Awards, he has sold over 250 million albums worldwide and continues to perform more than 100 shows a year, placing him squarely among the top 10 best-selling artists in music history. In addition to being the most successful rock pianist in the world, he oversees an artist-management company. And his AIDS foundation has raised more than US$220 million since 1992 and benefits programs in 55 countries. The sales of the song “Candle In The Wind” in 1997 raised over US$40 million for the charity, following the death of his friend Diana, Princess of Wales.

Elton has traveled the world performing his iconic and evergreen songs for his fans across the globe such as London, Germany, Canada, Brazil, Croatia, Abu Dhabi, Turkey and Indonesia, just to name a few. The next few months in Elton’s itinerary are packed and include sixteen nights performing his brand new show “Million Dollar Piano” at The Colosseum, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

“Saturday Night’s Alright (for Fighting)”, ”Rocket Man”, “Levon” and “Your Song” are just a handful of hits we can look forward to hearing here in Malaysia this November – it’s sure to be another unforgettable night of music.

Don't miss this One-Night-Only opportunity to hear one of the world’s greatest performers when Elton John and his band perform the Greatest Hits Tour this November. Tickets are on sale from today, Monday 17th October via AirAsiaRedTix (www.airasiaredtix.com).

This musical phenomenon comes to Theatr Clwyd for the first time thanks to Tip Top Productions.

Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on Old Possum’s Book Of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot. “Prologue – Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats” additional material written by Trevor Nunn and Richard Stilgoe; ”Memory” additional material written by Trevor Nunn.

The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year—the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories to Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life. Among the candidates are the aging theatre cat, Gus; the rocker, Rum Tum Tugger; and the once-glamorous Grizabella, now but a faded memory of her former self.

Boasting a score that includes Jellicle Songs for Jellicle Cats, Mr. Mistoffelees and Memory, this compelling fable takes audiences to a fantastical world that can only exist in the theatre. Cats has been performed worldwide and translated into over 20 languages. The original West End production ran for 21 years and the original Broadway production ran for 18 years

TUNE HOTELS STRENGTHENS FOOTHOLD IN PHILIPPINES

Latest hotel opening in Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao

TUNE HOTELS’ RAPID EXPANSION IN PHILIPPINES BUOYED BY FASTER-THAN-EXPECTED ECONOMIC GROWTH

Third Tune Hotel opens in Manila; overall six in country

MANILA, October 17, 2013 – The Philippines and its people have all the great things coming their way with an economic wave that has driven direct investments into the country including by international hotel brand Tune Hotels, said its Group CEO Mark Lankester.

“This is a great market for us to do business. In less than two years we already have six hotels in operation in the Philippines, including the newly opened Tune Hotel Quezon City in Manila. Not to mention four more to come in Ortigas, Davao, Aseana City and Ayala Avenue in Metro Manila within the next nine months,” said Lankester.

The 140-room Tune Hotel Quezon City, located at Timog Avenue, is the group’s third hotel in Metro Manila. It opened its doors for business on October 8.

The first Tune Hotel in the Philippines opened at Angeles City in Pampanga in February 2012, followed by Ermita and Makati in Metro Manila, Cebu City and Cagayan De Oro.

International economic and financial agencies including the World Bank and Asian Development Bank have revised the Philippines’ 2013 Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth upward to 7 per cent from around 6 per cent previously. This makes the Philippines the second fastest growing economy in Asia after China, and ahead of all its Southeast Asian neighbors. The strong growth is forecast to be sustained into coming years.

“This is a really great year for the Philippines and its people. The economy is booming, there is a great mood amongst the people and there are plenty of new jobs being created. Tourism within and into the Philippines is expanding massively, with really successful government marketing campaigns and the recent lifting of the European flights will only help contribute further to the tourism economy. In addition Filipinos have also made their mark on the Regional and International arena,” he said in reference to Filipino personalities like Jonathan Yabut who emerged the first ever winner of ‘The Apprentice Asia’ and Miss World 2013 Megan Young.

“There is a noticeable mood in the air that it really is the time for the Philippines to shine.”

Lankester had played Advisor to Tony Fernandes on the first ever ‘The Apprentice Asia’, the regional adaptation of the US reality series ‘The Apprentice’ this year.

He added: “It is very interesting to note that the Philippines has surpassed India as Asia’s top call-centre service provider, proving that it has quality human capital that are capable of driving the country to the next level.”

The Philippines has set a target of 10 million international tourist arrivals by 2016, more than double the 4.3 million tourists it received in 2012. Arrivals for 2013 have been projected at 5.5 million, contributing some PHP 1.5 trillion or 6.7 per cent to the GDP.

“We are very pleased with the commitment shown by the Department of Tourism and the Government in not only setting targets but to undertake firm initiatives to facilitate further growth of the tourism and travel industry in the Philippines. The country has a lot to offer and is destined to be a favorite destination in the region.

“For Tune Hotels, we look forward to positively contributing towards this effort by providing international standard accommodation at highly affordable rates, giving international tourists and locals alike the holiday experience they deserve. It’s definitely ‘more fun in the Philippines’ with Tune Hotels,” said the CEO.

Its pay-as-you-use concept lets travelers choose and pay only for amenities that they require to keep costs down, reduce waste and save energy.

The group has received over five million guests since the opening of its first hotel in Downtown Kuala Lumpur in 2007. With the opening of Quezon City, Tune Hotels now has six hotels in the Philippines, eleven in Malaysia, five each in the UK and Indonesia, four in Thailand, and one each in India, Japan and Australia. Apart from further expansion in these countries, future Tune Hotels are also being planned in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

Offices of the Anti Advertising Agency and www.delocator.net

Two exhibitions by the artists' collaboratives the Anti-Advertising Agency and Finishing School will take over the San Francisco Art Institute's Walter and McBean Galleries for the month of April and into May.

The Anti-Advertising Agency (AAA) will transform the McBean Project Space into its temporary headquarters replete with a conference table, desks, chairs, dry erase boards, a water cooler, fluorescent lamps, and cubicle walls in order to plan the Agency's counter-advertising projects for 2005–2006. Artist and educator Steve Lambert founded the Anti Advertising Agency. Co-opting the tools and structures used by the advertising and public relations industries, the Agency was established as a response to the pervasiveness of commercial content in public urban space. As the CEO of the Anti Advertising Agency, Lambert will work from start to finish with the artists selected for Agency support to help realize their projects.

To date, five artists’ projects have been selected for Agency support. All of these projects will have workstations in the gallery/office where they can begin work and present their ideas to the public.

Participating artists include Sara Dierck and Michael Dodge, who will work on engaging the public through sound and radio; Amanda Eicher, who will focus on connecting consumer products with labor; Susan R. Greene, who brings expertise in community-based art making and clinical psychology; Packard Jennings, who will hone the Agency's message through public surveys and target audiences; and Dara Greenwald and Josh MacPhee, who will use street teams to promote business activity that doesn't rely on advertising. As each of these artists projects evolve, the residual Post It ® notes, reference material, paper scraps, diagrams, and scrawled notebooks will be left in the gallery as part of the exhibition.

Simultaneously, downstairs in the Walter Gallery, the Southern California based artist group Finishing School will create a café/workshop environment to serve as the physical location for the launch of their newest project, the web-based, www.delocator.net. Finishing School is the collective identity of artists Brian Boyer, Ed Giardina, and xtine. For this project the artists have collaborated with computer programmer Vasna Sdoeung to produce their interactive website www.delocator.net. This online interactive database allows patrons to enter and pull comparative information regarding independently owned café and trans-national coffee emporiums.

During the exhibition, Finishing School will transform the gallery into a traditional coffee house environment with the addition of computers and wireless Internet access. Gallery visitors will learn about the delocator project and are invited to add information to a growing online database of independently owned café’s and coffee houses.

Finishing School is the second Nimoy Artist Residency to be funded by Susan Bay and Leonard Nimoy, who established the Nimoy Foundation in 2003. The mission of the Nimoy Foundation is to recognize, encourage, and support the work of contemporary visual and performing artists.

Exhibitions Director Merry Scully finds the entrepreneurial approach taken by both the AAA and the Finishing School reflective of national and international art making trends. "This kind of artistic practice engages the social and political sphere rather than simply representing or commenting upon it," explains Scully. “It invites a rethinking and exchange from the audience that more didactic work does not."

The Walter and McBean Galleries are open Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–6pm. Both exhibitions invite active participation by the audience. The "CEO" of the AAA will be on-site and available to the public Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. The AAA will offer free anti-advertising "consultations" to the public on Wednesdays at 6:30pm, and "focus groups" on Fridays from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. The delocator café/workshop will be open during gallery hours. More information about these projects can be found at www.antiadvertisingagency.com

GUESTS GIVE TUNE HOTEL klia2 THE THUMBS UP

‘Roomer Has It’ social media campaign launched to commemorate new hotel opening

SEPANG, 9 May 2014 – Tune Hotel klia2 saw a steady stream of guests checking in on its first day of operations today.

Guests met at the hotel today gave the thumbs up for the fresh new look and cool ambience.

Tony Head from Perth, Australia who was en route to Padang, Sumatera with his friends for their surfing vacation said: “We have stayed at the old LCCT hotel before but getting into the new Tune Hotel klia2 gives us a totally different kind of impression.

More information about these projects can be found at www.antiadvertisingagency.com

and www.delocator.net.

"A connectome is a synapse-resolution mapping of connections between

all neurons in a model organism's brain. In other words, a

synapse-resolution circuit diagram of the brain. Current approaches to

mapping the connectomes of model organisms employ serial block face

scanning electron microscopy (SBF-SEM) and transmission electron

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 December 2013 – International value hotel group Tune Hotels is celebrating the arrival of the New Year 2014 with the opening of two new properties – Tune Hotel Davao in the Philippines and Tune Hotel Bekasi in Indonesia.

The 155-room Tune Hotel Davao, located at J.P. Laurel Avenue in Davao City, the Philippines welcomed its first guests on Tuesday 17 December 2013 while Tune Hotel Bekasi, with 157 rooms and located at Blu Plaza, Jl. Chairil Anwar 27-36 in Bekasi Timur, Indonesia opened for business Thursday 19 December 2013.

Mark Lankester, Group CEO of Tune Hotels said: “What a celebration! We have two hotels opening just days apart in two of the most vibrant economies in Asean and this surely is a big cause to celebrate for Tune Hotels. Both Indonesia and Philippines are great markets for us and our rapid expansion in both countries signifies their importance.”

Tune Hotels now has seven hotels in operation in the Philippines and six in Indonesia.

“2013 has been a great year for us. To recap, including the newly-opened Tune Hotel Davao and Tune Hotel Bekasi, we have launched three new hotels each in the Philippines and Indonesia this year alone. By early 2014, three more are coming up in Indonesia and another in the Philippines, and these underscore our plans for the two countries” shared Mark.

Elsewhere, Tune Hotels has 11 hotels in operation in Malaysia, four in Thailand, five in the UK and one each in Australia, India and Japan. It has a total of 40 hotels available for booking on its website www.tunehotels.com.

NEWS RELEASE

ELTON JOHN & BAND

GREATEST HITS TOUR
