Warning signs are usually planted as decorations along the road, and ignoring them seldom leads to any real peril.

But when they placed this particular one I think they may actually have been on to something.

Hope at last! Finally a notice warning visitors that the birds bite! Even more dangerous than the Emus were the Ostriches alongside, which are even more aggressive. Though the sign is a good thing, it was a nondescript one which was very easy to miss. (Emirates Park Zoo, Samha, Abu Dhabi, Jan. 2015)

This diagrammatic drawing was usual in Romania in the 1980s and 1990s, before the standadization of the current shape. This example is from Bucharest, on Pantelimon Roadway.

Crocodiles are definitely present in estuarine areas of SE Queensland. Sightings of large Crocs by fishermen have confirmed their presence in the Mary River.

While I was at Kingfisher Bay Resort on Fraser Island there was a warning note pinned on a notice board reporting a recent sighting in the area.

Tourism authorities ,National Parks and Wildlife and Kingfisher Bay Resort Management perhaps necessarily play down the likelyhood of encountering a croc nevertheless it is wise not to be complacent about the threat of crocodiles if you are frequenting suitable water and estuarine habitat in SE Queensland.

Wikipedia says "Saltwater Crocodiles are occasionally seen in the upper reaches of the Mary River, with one notable 3.5 m crocodile being known to live in the river since April 2012.

Although the official range for Saltwater Crocodiles stops near Gladstone, it is widely regarded that the Mary River is the most southerly range limit for crocodiles." Wikipedia

Here are a few more CROC SAFETY RULES

DO: Keep as much distance as possible between yourself and the crocodile.

DO: Back away slowly. Any sudden movements might make it attack.

DO: If the croc is in a heavily populated area, report it to your local wildlife authority.

DON'T: Provoke the croc. They may look docile at times, but will lash out if threatened.

DON'T: Feed the croc as this will encourage it to come back to the same place for food.

DON'T: Panic. Getting hysterical isn't going to help , and the croc is probably more scared of you than you are of it.
