There's a very interesting picture of Western Dock (I think) being filled in here: www.portcities.org.uk/london/server/show/conMediaFile.525.... I believe that's News International being constructed in the background. There are various other good photos of the docks on that site (Port Cities).

The surviving fragment of the gatehouse to the early nineteenth-century New Gaol, currently hemmed in by hoardings for the Wapping Wharf mixed-used development. How will it be incorporated?

Gun Wharves in Wapping, on the northern embankment of the River Thames, in east London — I took this photo on a Sunday afternoon in 1965. Fifty years later, Wapping High Street looks somewhat different, with the remaining warehouse buildings now converted to apartments; however, the cobbled road surface is still there.

Understood from the orchestra member we spoke to briefly that collecting and covering university cloaks/gowns is very traditional in Portugal

I love the way they use the old machinery to store cutlery and napkins :)
