I got bored of my duct tape wallet, so I made myself a new one out of fabric this time. The plaid fabric is from a pair of shorts I found at a thrift store, and the pockets and lining are made from a canvas bag, also from said thrift store. My stitching skills leave something to be desired, but it's good enough for me.
Recently, I've got a new wallet instead of one I had for about eight years. Since it has a bit smaller coin pocket, my old wallet knife, Kershaw DWO lockback, doesn't fit it well. So I decided to get something new with a lower profile. After about a month of searching through knife catalogs, I discovered that I have to go for something like "minimalist pocket tool" with a retractable disposable blade for utility knife or a scalpel. I chose Big Idea Design Titanium Pocket Tool - there are many different types of blades available for it, it can be used as a flat screwdriver (far from ideal) and 1/4" hex bit driver.
However, I didn't like its dull metallic finish, so I anodized it to make it dark saturated blue. During that process, I discovered that blade stop rivets aren't made of titanium, so I had to mask them with a polyurethane lacquer. Another discovery was that inside the blade slot, there is a flat magnet that keeps the blade from rattling. I removed it because I don't want any magnets next to my cards. Later, I'll add a PTFE film or brass foil shim to make it go smoother.
By the way, some company makes blued steel blades that I'm going to use with it.

Using a blanket stitch, attach the card pocket to the front of the bill pocket. Stitch around the sides and the bottom leaving the top open for access. If you plan on using htis as an actual wallet, be sure to keep your blanket stitch slim, so your cards will fit into the pocket.
This wallet was introduced in 1953 by Wiesner of Miami as part of a three-piece gift set, including a rhinestone lighter and cigarette case --perfect for showing off in the Lucite purses that were just coming into vogue. It's covered in rhinestones on both sides, with a cow-hide interior.

I had a plan, and somehow it all went really away from that plan.
For starters, I decided to work with a pattern ( always a challenge for me :-) - I have been working from a pattern... what, around 8 times ever! ) and then I decided to make something for you, special for you, and you seem to be organized and to like organized - so I decided to make something in - drumroll!!! - matching colours and fabrics.
And the same thing happened, the thing that always happens, when I try to make something matching and stylish - I find it looks incredibly boring, and I throw in all the kinds of entertainment, I myself like so much. I can't help it. Promise, my fingers wander into the scrap bin and pick colourful somethings all by themselves.
So here we are - on the outside this sewing wallet is very, very me - patchy and messy and looks like a pattern-collision. And the inside - that side is meant for you; connected and matching.
So - not a straight line in sight, not stylish and cool and very far from perfect ... but made for you by me.
I am filling it with small fabrics (colour coordinated! Woohoo! ) ready for small piecing - and I hope, you will smile, when you look at this little sewing wallet. I enjoyed making it - and also enjoyed seeing it taking its strange turn.

the exterior of this very cool wallet is made from maharam gray textured wall vinyl, cotton osnaburg backing, and pink bias tape. the interior sleeve is maharam seating material that feels like soft suede and tan in color. i also added a blue change pocket which is made from upholstery linen. these materials are very beautiful and sturdy. you will also find a place for money bills, credit cards, and id card. the wallet is kept closed with velcro.

Got this pattern for this wallet at:
Paying the bill. That wallet has been with me since 1990 or so. I've lost it like 8 times, and have always had it returned(obviously). It's so loose, that stuff just falls out of it. I have to keep a 3/4" stack of cards in it, just so it stays tight enough to hold the money in the sleeve.
