For Macro Mondays

Theme: Wallet

I'm always looking for interesting people to photograph, so until Magi McGlynn, the Bard of the Braes of Balquidder, returns in a few days, let me introduce Slim, the local leather and wood craftsman. A New Zealander of Scots decent (I suspect it's because of his wife that he is here. My father always said of my mum, "Marry a woman from hell and she'll drag you back there" to explain why we were living in Caithness).

Well, Slim (spoken with a heavy Kiwi accent) is a craftsman who offers half day, full day and two day courses in leather making and carving courses. I pictured him and his tools, dyes and stains working in his Salen workshop. Steampunk items, handbags, purses, key fobs, mini-sporrans, bookmarks, baggage tags, wallets, bespoke bags of all types, custom and commissioned beautiful, unique pieces fashioned from high quality leather. His pieces are finely crafted and on sale in craft shops across the Highlands. But for your own satisfaction why not make your own, with his guidance?

Here is the bird wallet, this time I did 2 birds instead of 1 and changed the fabric.

So what do you think, 2 birds or 1? (see my other bird wallet for comparison if you like)

For this week's Crazy Tuesday, theme I chose my everyday wallet. Three sided, it is both useful and decorative. I love the design. Bought at auction, it has served me well for nearly 10 years, the outside is worn now but inside the pattern is still absolutely fabulous HCT

A trip to Hong Kong isn’t cheap (especially when you’re me and like to stay somewhere nice… sorry Michael’s wallet!) so we try to limit our actual expenditure when we’re there. Taking a taxi to Kwun Tong was unusual. It was a bit of a hail mary as I’d basically seen one Street View image that implied there may be a view from this random pathway. It was totally away from most of my other photography stops for the night.

But here we were! It was a warm night and I was struggling with the incline (will I ever get fit?). Stopping for a moment, we set up the tripod and I got this cool shot- all those overlapping roads and transport. Always nice to catch a train light trail, too.

It also really met my criteria of ‘Do your best to take photos a million people *haven’t* taken’- tough in such a big city!

I know, I know. Hong Kong, again! I’m not wealthy- I just keep spending all my money on going there. I don’t think they say ‘Fourth Times the Charm’ but this trip was just that - a success. For almost the entire time I kept my mental health issues at bay. It was a good trip. After three disasters - It is really nice to say that.

Jesus' wallet is no Joke baby, for once i found someone with a bigger one than mine :)

Today's theme is wallet. I used the section with a cute coin purse as my subject and photographed it with my Lensbaby lens featuring a macro attachment.

I spoke with a friend today about the importance of teaching our kids how to save and use money wisely. She reminded me that money itself is not the root of evil; rather, it is the love of money that causes problems. What are your thoughts on this?

Macro Mondays - theme: "Wallet"

I made this wallet from a tutorial over at That Darn Cat The tutorial was really easy to follow and I only used scraps I had around the house, making my project totally free! I originally saw this project made by someone on Threadbanger! Thanks for the tip on this great tutorial!

Yes, I do like blue. :)

The use of wallet is now losing out to digital payment systems. But there are still old small businesses that prefer cash,so a wallet is still handy.

At first, I was thinking of putting a few peanuts in the wallet and titled the shot as paid in peanuts. Just for humor.

Setup for the shot was my wallet, a black paper as background, a torchlight shining through a glass then onto the subjects, and Samsung S22+ phone.

30 year old wallet, been in my pocket every day for those 30 years.
