In spite of dreadful dreary weather, and the potential to have 2 black bricks on the head end, I ventured down to Carrollton to take a look at the stone train operation on 12/22/2020. It had been at least 20 years and I wanted to scout out the access to the tunnel at Robertsville for future better days. There aren't many railroad tunnels in the state of Ohio and this one is in the county where I grew up. But it almost wasn't here anymore. A few years ago a caboose that was being moved was stuck when part of the tunnel collapsed and it was over a year before it was cleared and the tunnel repaired. Fortunately, the friendly crew hid the black GP38's behind the 111 so i at least had a nicely painted nose for the couple of shots that I did. This section of the Wheeling & Lake Eire dates back to the narrow gauge Connotten Valley of the 1880's.
Welcome - come on over and take some snaps at my backdrops before they vanish.

Thanks to a timely tip from Uncle Wak , I was able to rendezvous with this long W&LE empty sand train at Spencer where they picked up the one pellet car for the CN at Lang Yard. Here they are just clearing the CSX diamond in Wellington and will soon be notching up for the run into Hartland.
The assisted living home where my parents are has been allowing limited week-day only short outdoor visits during the pandemic. I've been scheduling mine in the afternoons partly because there is a little bit of shade from their patio and partly because the Wheeling often has a late afternoon westbound out of Brewster with PTC-equipped SD40's for the run across CSX at New London. Most of those were repainted when PTC was installed. On July 1st I got lucky when they ran a coke train in front of the freight to Carey that was set back late and didn't have a matched lashup anyway. Chasing on the Brewster sub has been difficult this summer unless the 25mph speed restriction is in effect for when it's above 90. My luck continued this day after shooting in Smithville, the dispatcher put the coke train into the siding at Creston to avoid congestion at Spencer, and then changed his mind and allowed him to go on hold the main at Spencer. Creston siding has often been the end of a westbound chase this summer. That gave me time to get around Lodi to one of the better views on the sub at Sanford Rd.
