Food distribution to vulnerable children and families from minority groups in northern Argentina began in the 1980s. Every month we share food parcels with staple food to the needy.

In Argentina, Star of Hope is working primarily with educating children from Indian families in the Chaco Province, about 1 200 kilometers north of the capital Buenos Aires. The goal is to give indigenous people, who often live as poor, marginalized groups in their communities, a good start in life and knowledge of their rights and ability to work to realize them.

Most Indians belonging to the tribe of Qom, which is their real name. They are often called Toba as well.

Due to the loss of lives of several vulnerable youth in the Cowichan Valley area, community partners who care and support the youth have been advocating for this program. Every effort has been taken to support these young people while out on the streets and now there will be a physical space open 24/7 for them to land when needed. Cowichan Tribes leadership has been instrumental in this project as the Indigenous youth are overrepresented in both vulnerability and number of lives lost. Learn more: news.gov.bc.ca/31055

Happy May Day ...

It is about life, about falling in love, and frolicking in the woods.

The Goddess who manifests herself at May Day calls you out of yourself and you may never return, at least to the same world that you knew"

The Humboldt Penguins wing is called a flipper. The wings are very hard, rigid paddle covered with tiny stiff feathers that are not waterproof (unlike the feathers on the rest of a penguin body). If you look at a penguin from behind when he has his wings in an upright position you will see that they compare to the shape of an airplanes wing.

A penguin skin has two layers; a fat layer and a feather layer. The fat layer helps penguins in staying warm, even in extreme weather conditions. The feather layer is the top layer, and also helps to keep the penguin warm. It is also wind and waterproof for many reasons.

There are about 70 feathers per square inch on a penguin’s body. That’s about 11 feathers per square centimetre, which is more than other birds have.

A penguin is able to keep his skin wind and waterproof by spreading natural oil over the stiff part of the feathers. The oil not only serves as insulation, but also reduces friction, helping penguins in gliding smoothly through the water. Before a penguin can preen himself he first has to clean his feathers and remove any dirt or water. The penguin then starts to oil his feathers with his bill; the penguin reaches his oil gland at the base of his tail and by rubbing its bill against the gland he spreads the oil into his feathers. Once this is done he will start preening. Preening happens on land and at times in water

Praween a BWS Member on our weekend shoot at Nandi hills Spotted this beautiful Butterfly on the road lying motion less, so vulnerable to be run over by the vehicles. We stopped hoping to find the butterfly alive, and alive it was. It had some problem flying. Soon we got excited and started to take umpteen numbers of shots of the butterfly, the poor thing was very cooperative and ever so elegant. Then we placed the butterfly on a plant faraway from the road so that it was safe and sound and left.

The Green Avadavat or Green Munia, Is locally found here in Mount Abu it is on the IUCN Red List vulnerable species.
