On October 31st , 2016 monareliefye.org delivering 300 food aid baskets to vulnerable families in al-Sweeq area in al-Tuhita of Hodeidah in western Yemen.

Our campaign in Hodeidah to feed 5000 families has started on September 25 where Mona Relief crew reached out families in al-Tuhita area in Hodeidah providing urgently needed basic supplies to 200 families there.

Mona Relief Yemen's aid comes after shocking images of malnourished mothers and their emaciated children emerged earlier this month.

Every family is given a package of 50kg wheat, 10kg rice, 10kg sugar and cooking oil enough to last a month.

The going war in Yemen has plunged the country into a serious humanitarian crisis, with hundreds suffering from famine and malnutrition.

With the lack of food coupled with high prices, many are left with little choice but to resort to eating leaves.

Meanwhile, the United Nations World Food Program (WPF) warned that “at least seven million people - a quarter of the population - are living under emergency levels of food insecurity

It is a crisis that has deepened since the civil war broke out, and according to WFP there has been a 15 percent increase in hunger during the past year. The WFP further warns that another 7.1 million people are ready to fall into hunger if the situation does not improve. In 19 of the 22 governorates of Yemen, many are experiencing severe hunger.

300 food aid packages delivered by monareliefye.org to IDPs and vulnerable families in Bani Hewat area of Sana'a by Mona Relief

On February 15th , 2016, Mona Relief Yemen ground crew distributed 300 food aid packages to IDPs and vulnerable families living in Bani Hewat area of the capital Sana'a.

Despite the accident that happened to the car driving by the organization's CEO, the food distribution continued to help families who they are in dire need in Yemen.

Facts about Yemen

Two years of relentless conflict in Yemen have devastated the lives of millions of people. Yemen is now facing a protection and humanitarian crisis that is quickly engulfing a large part of its population. An alarming 18.8 million people - almost two thirds of the population - need some kind of humanitarian or protection support. Some 10.3 million are in acute need of assistance. This means they need aid to sustain their lives. This man-made disaster has been brutal on civilians. Currently, 17 million people are food insecure while a staggering seven million people do not know where their next meal is coming from and are at risk of famine. At least three million people have fled their homes, public services have broken down, less than half of the health centres are functional and medicine and equipment are limited. Access to safe water has become a major challenge and the lack of proper sanitation has increased the risk of communicable diseases. A child under the age of 5 dies every 10 minutes of preventable causes.

6 volunteers get arrested by security authorities in Hess city after finishing food aid distribution to 150 vulnerable families funded by Kuwaiti donor by Mona Relief

On November 20th, 2016

In our 5-day mission to help vulnerable families in Hodeidah governorate in western Yemen. In our fifth day we decided to help 150 families living in al-Mekhraf village of Hess district. No one else before Mona Relief's ground crew reached out families there because the area very close to the battlefield and it is sunny and windy area. Despite that we went there and we reached people there and delivered them 150 food aid packages funded by an anonymous Kuwaiti donor and dignity kits funded by IOM Yemen.

As soon as, Mona Relief's ground crew had finished delivering food aid and dignity kits to families there we headed to Sana'a. As we arrived in the capital Sana'a we received a phone call telling us that 6 volunteers in Hess got arrested by security authorities who accused them of breaking the law and distributed food aid funded by a Kuwaiti donor and that is not allowed because Kuwait participating in the war in the country.

Anyway, after several call to our friends to help us to release them we could make and our volunteers got freed. That was very disappointed act conducted by authorities there indeed because the distance that we travelled to reach out people there is almost 560 km far from Sana'a. Later Mona Relief's volunteers told us later that the security authorities were looking for us to be arrested.

Cowichan Valley to open a new emergency shelter for vulnerable youth by Province of British Columbia

Due to the loss of lives of several vulnerable youth in the Cowichan Valley area, community partners who care and support the youth have been advocating for this program. Every effort has been taken to support these young people while out on the streets and now there will be a physical space open 24/7 for them to land when needed. Praween a BWS Member on our weekend shoot at Nandi hills Spotted this beautiful Butterfly on the road lying motion less, so vulnerable to be run over by the vehicles. We stopped hoping to find the butterfly alive, and alive it was. It had some problem flying. Soon we got excited and started to take umpteen numbers of shots of the butterfly, the poor thing was very cooperative and ever so elegant. Then we placed the butterfly on a plant faraway from the road so that it was safe and sound and left.
