'' Vortex'' ,150x150 cm on woodboard -2014

Inside a beehive charcoal kiln. This is how iron was extracted from iron ore in 1874. This is the view looking straight up from under the dome apex. Domed stone work fascinates me. This is one of the last antique kilns standing in the Marquette Iron Range, Marquette, Michigan, USA on the shores of Lake Superior. This was once part of the Carp River Furnace complex.

this is a shot from the last full moon night ----which lit up the sky

Mr Mech came out with me to watch some LP -he's not a photog -he was just interested in seeing how lightpainting was done and volunteered to let me shoot this one of him --props for him staying so still while i lit him up with a mini flashlight -- then he helped do the light on the bridge ---

I was just playing around but I like it somehow. ;)

There are so many burger places in Atlanta now that the once popular Vortex just doesn't seem to have it anymore. But it still does have the most impressive entrance. So after eating there before our big soccer game (that the American way) we decided to shoot it. It is funny how empty the streets of Atlanta become post 8pm, when only 2 hours earlier they are slammed...

The lights of the town of Sedona,

as seen from Airport Mesa,

one of Sedona's potent energy vortices.

A vortex is a place, usually on or near an interesting rock formation, where people have reported feeling inspired by a beneficial source of energy. If you're skeptical, that's okay - looking for vortices (vortexes?) is still a fun excuse for a hike.

Airport Mesa, one of the most accessible vortices, is an easy hike from a (small) parking lot. It’s a very popular destination for watching the sunset, overlooking the city of Sedona, as well as providing excellent perspectives on some of the most popular red rock formations such as Courthouse Butte, Thunder Mountain and Coffee Pot.

There are all sorts of energy here and it's good to be wary after dark. I started to take a short hike to a viewpoint for Courthouse Butte when, wearing sneakers and shorts, aside from having to step carefully on loose rock, I nearly stepped on a snake on the path. In the darkening light, I didn't get a good look at the snake but, if it didn't rattle, it certainly hissed. I turned back.

This was a 9 sec. exposure, as I gradually changed the zoom of the lens.

So I woke up from my dream and found that my pillows were gone. I forgot to close my window last night and a vortex/portal type deal opened outside my window. I just hate when that happens!

Suddenly the world began to spin forming this vortex from which three locomotives and a train emerged. Fortunately the exposure ended before the train could crash into itself. i4s5202 - Happy Sliders Sunday!

A new joint operation - called Operation Vortex - has gotten underway today (Wednesday 19 January 2022) in Oldham to crack down on vehicle crime and traffic offences in the district.

The Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit, along with officers from GMP's Safer Transport Team and officers across the Oldham District, worked along the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency at a static base in Chadderton, stopping a number of vehicles either committing traffic offences, or vehicle crime.

Two men arrested, one on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs, and one for driving while disqualified and remain in custody for questioning, ten vehicles have been seized for being driven with no insurance, and one stolen vehicle has been recovered.

In addition, officers also reported 35 traffic offences for a range of driving offences.

Chief Superintendent Mark Dexter from GMP's Specialist Operations said: "This will become a regular operation across Greater Manchester, where we will strive to make our communities and roads safer, tackling illegal vehicles which we know that are all too often used in crime and cause harm and misery on the roads.

"I hope this sends a strong message to anyone thinking of breaking the law on our roads, that we are watching, and we won't hesitate to take action to remove you and your vehicle from the road."

You should call 101, the national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.

Always call 999 in an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, violence is being used or threatened or where there is danger to life.

You can also call anonymously with information about crime to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity who will not want your name, just your information. Your call will not be traced or recorded and you do not have to go to court or give a statement.

Made the first trip this winter to Openlands Lakeshore Preserve in Fort Sheridan, IL with a good friend, Mark Kinsman www.flickr.com/photos/mbkinsman/. The ice formations are always fantastic there when we have cold winters like this one. We got up early to be there before sunrise, then had to wait over an hour for the sun to break through the clouds.

Above, in the Clouds, a vortex lurks, waiting for it's moment; when it can grow, gather speed, and suddenly reach down to earth.

Each ring that is made visible by the incense smoke is a vortex. Slight disturbances cause the vortex rings to interact and distort. In the end, the vortices break down into a seeming chaotic structure.

Marine stratocumulus clouds frequently form parallel rows, or “cloud streets,” along the direction of wind flow. When the flow is interrupted by an obstacle such as an island, a series of organized eddies can appear within the cloud layer downwind of the obstacle. These turbulence patterns are known as von Karman vortex streets. In these images from NASA’s Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer, an impressive vortex pattern continues for over 300 km southward of Jan Mayen island. Jan Mayen is an isolated territory of Norway, located about 650 km northeast of Iceland in the north Atlantic Ocean. Jan Mayen’s Beerenberg volcano rises about 2.2 km above the ocean surface, providing a significant impediment to wind flow.

Fluid dynamicist Theodore von Karman was the first to derive the conditions under which these turbulence patterns occur. Von Karman was a professor of aeronautics at the California Institute of Technology and one of the principal founders of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
