I'm scheming with Jenny (krousegirl2) to make a generous throw-sized quilt for a Sandy Hook student. Our overall theme is "low volume." I may have gone a little bit overboard with the bright colors in choosing some of the prints, but I think Jenny's beautiful blocks will even the score. These blocks of strips will be sewn together in the rail fence pattern.
I plan to straight line quilt this on my machine. I did just recently reach out to a local long arm studio to see if they might consider volunteering to quilt it, but I don't know if they will. It is a busy time for people in their business. I just thought it would be nice to try and see if a longarmer would get involved because it would make it that much more beautiful.

Volume, by United Visual Artists (UVA).
Volume consists of many columns of light, each equipped with a speaker. Together, the columns turn into an environment that looks a bit like a futuristic forest. The installation uses a camera system to track everyone that moves through it and converts these movements into a specific sound and light pattern. Everyone pulls his own trail through the installation and together the visitors create a totally unique audiovisual web.

It was edited in Alien Skin Exposure 5, with two variations of Old Kodachrome faded options and the layers blended with a blend mode.
This mill wheel used the water power to drive a hammer that forged iron.
This pond was really green in color, yet very clear.
There is a very busy hiking path that goes up the hill behind the wheel.
There is also very deep blue pond here. Its gets its color from its depth. At one point they thought it was bottomless. But divers finally reached the bottom and discovered the its greatest depth 20.6 m, volume approx 5,500 m³. with a constant temp in the depths of 9.4 °C.
I seem to remember that there were also some prehistoric settlements and artifacts associated with that hill.
Blaubeuren is located west of Ulm. There is an Abbey and some castle ruins nearby. It is considered a Town District, and I was told that they keep the area its serves historic records there. I am guessing it is kind of like the Market town in the UK.
It has some really nice old architecture with great details.
[It is that time of year once again: we are in Winter, not the greatest of times to go out photograph Romanesque churches, and the major upheavals that took place in my life last year (2025) did not allow me to do a lot of photography —nor was I much inclined to do so, obviously. Therefore, and because I mean to keep posting content for those of you who are kind enough to follow my stream, I daily upload some older shots, re-processed in black-and-white, as that look, which seeks to emulate that of the Zodiaque books, suits very well that kind of photography, I believe.

As you may know, my primary source when preparing a trip to discover the most fascinating Romanesque monuments in France (and elsewhere) is the Zodiaque collection of books, published between 1950 and 2000 by the Benedictine monks of La Pierre-qui-Vire Abbey in Burgundy, under the ægis of (and with photographs by) my mentor Dom Angelico Surchamp, osb. The Languedoc roman volume in that collection mentioned this isolated church of which I had never heard but which was conveniently located right next to the spa resort of Lamalou-les-Bains in the département of Hérault.
I say “conveniently” because, to tell you the truth, the real, primary purpose for which I drove down to Languedoc in November 2022 was not to photograph Romanesque churches (although that would obviously be a welcome complement), but to bring my beloved Revox B77 Mark II tape deck to a competent “fixer” who lived in a village not far from Lamalou. Months ago, I had stupidly broken one of the façade switches, and now the sick boy had to be taken to a healer to be fixed. And while the artisan was doing his thing on the Revox, I got to drive around and see beautiful old stones...
Back to the main matter, the church we are visiting today was built on the remains of an early Christian sanctuary built around the late 300s on the Gallo-Roman site of Rhèdes (traces of it have been found by archæologists). Then, in 551 (there is a most rare written trace), a new church was ordered to be built over the primitive one by “a King of France” whose name is not mentioned —and of course, “France” did not exist as such at that time.
That church was then donated to the Benedictine abbey of Villemagne at a date unknown, but it is mentioned in the last will and testament of Guillaume, viscount of Béziers and Agde († 990 AD), and again in 1153 as a priory of Villemagne.
Stylistically, the church we see today belongs to the First Romanesque Art of the 11th century, but there are indications of an earlier construction date for some parts of it, probably around Year 1000 or even before that milestone. It is a simple yet ample church, very old but beautifully preserved and restored, with none of the absurd excesses of the 19th century. It has been listed as a Historic Landmark since 1880 and the acoustics are so good there are many concerts of all kinds of music during the Summer season. It has been deconsecrated at some point but I haven’t found the exact date.

What reads at first glance as repetition reveals itself, on closer inspection, as a carefully modulated composition. This mid-rise residential block in the Mission District deploys a curtain-wall logic more commonly associated with commercial office towers, transplanted here into the housing typology with mixed but visually compelling results. The façade is organized into four primary bays, each stepping slightly proud of the datum plane, creating shallow vertical fins that catch light differently throughout the day. The blue-grey color treatment — whether original or photographic — suits the building well, emphasizing the cool aluminum framing against the recessed spandrel panels. What distinguishes this elevation is the penthouse treatment: each bay terminates in a glazed volume that breaks the roofline with a modest flourish, a nod to articulation in a design that otherwise prizes discipline. The window grid within each bay is genuinely sophisticated — fixed lites paired with operable sash in an irregular but balanced Mondrian-esque arrangement that avoids the deadening uniformity of cheaper multifamily construction. The dark vertical slots separating the bays provide essential shadow relief, preventing the whole from flattening into wallpaper. In a neighborhood that has absorbed decades of development pressure, this building holds the street with a certain cold confidence.

After hearing about Sheila Baron hiring various villains to attack his Mum and her company. Ben decided to pay her a visit. He had to change out of his armour since the fire and then treat some of his burns. In that time he spoke with his Mum and told her what happened. Apparently, she decided to work from home the day of the fire. Guess Firelighter didn’t get the memo.
Ben decided he would have a talk with Shiela at Power-Up Pharmacies. See if they could come to an agreement of some sort. He knew someone who had access to hiring villains would have access to bribing cops. So, he figured that even if the villains who were apprehended admitted to her hiring them in court, she would still get away with it. Therefore, Ben had to negotiate with her. After saying his Mum was CEO of Imagine, Shiela’s secretary was more receptive to letting him speak with her. It doesn’t take long before he is called to her office. He enters the room and the two lock eyes. Ben clenched his fists and tried his best to give her a fake smile. It was obvious he wasn’t making an effort to show he didn’t like her. The look in his eyes was enough of a giveaway.
Shiela: “Ben, what a pleasant surprise. How are you?”
Ben: “Cut the crap.”
Shiela: “Ah, you’re one of those people. I like that.”
Ben: “What the hell do you want from my Mum? Why are you trying to destroy her business?”
Shiela: “I’m not. However, your Mum’s business is starting to gain the attention of some of my clientele. So, it’d be nice if she stopped.”
Ben: “So what, just because she’s better at her job than you, you’re trying to get her killed?”
Shiela: “Again, I’m not. Although, it’s my understanding your Mum did have plenty warnings before those events.”
Ben: “You mean death threats?”
Shiela: “I’m not aware of the details. So, I’m sure once you get your Mum to stop growing her business everything will be okay.”
Ben: “So, I get her to stop advancing her business and the attacks and threats will stop? Just like that?”
Shiela: “That’s what I would suggest. Do you think you could do that for her, Ben?”
Ben: “Erm, yeah. I uh, I think so.”
Shiela: “That’s great. So, if that’s everything you need. Then feel to let yourself out. It’s been a pleasure talking to you.”
Ben: “No.... no I’m not doing that. Actually, I have something else in mind.”
Ben takes a hand out from his hoodie pocket, revealing a silver glove. He clenches his fist and gradually it expands and builds itself up into an armoured gauntlet. Shiela stares at it intently as Ben storms towards her with his gauntlet hand raised, reaching out for her. She backs away out of her chair and he clutches her throat and chin in his armoured grasp. He doesn’t even feel her flesh in his metal grip. With a gentle squeeze his armoured fingers tighten around her, silencing the scream she was about to let out.
Ben: “How about this: you don’t harm my mum or her business and I don’t smash your head open like a watermelon?”
For emphasis Ben squeezes her throat a little tighter and roughly pushes her out from his grip, letting her stagger away. She throws herself over her desk clutching her throat and glares at him. However, he can tell there is a hint of fear and surprise in her eyes. She’s clearly not used to this. Perhaps, it’s her first ever physical confrontation.
Ben: “No matter how much villains you throw at my family, I’ll knock them right back down. I know who you are and I will always find you wherever you are. So, do we have a deal?”
Shiela: “Y-Yes. I’ll leave your Mum and her business alone. Just don’t ever let me see you again. Now, get the hell out of my building.”
Ben: “Gladly. This place sucks anyway.”
