On a random summers days during the week Gary from Krazy Scooters popped down to Grit HQ bringing with Soly and Gary's most recent scouted talent, Mason Leonardi. We spent the day at the local park and doing a shop signing at Vert while getting to see what Mason was all about. I grabbed a few shots of him killing the half pipe, this T-Bog was my favourite.

I looked down at the flickering lights as they grew further and further away from me. The white, Orange and yellow lights flooding the blackness with a beautiful hue. The world was black. Filled with emptiness and I was above it, drinking lemon lime soda and eating rice crisps. The powdery coating of each triangular chip sticking to my fingers after indulging on each one, slowly and blissfully. I looked down again seeing the lights disappear more and more. In the distance, red and green, one on each tip as a plane flew the opposite direction I was going. Perhaps taking my place in the world that I just left. I gently picked up my tall plastic cup, slowly sipping it and having the cold liquid chill and calm my throat. As I set my cup down in the intended circle on the foldable table in front of me, I let out a sigh.
It was a new feeling I haven't felt in years. The feeling of nothing. No stress, no anxiety, no worries. Perhaps it was the luxury of sitting alone in a row and treated like royalty, or the slight breeze on top of my head, making my hair sway ever so slightly. I rubbed my fingers against my thumb, getting rid of the excess powder from the chips on the napkin in front of me, once again, as I looked out the window, seeing the lights, now a distant memory as the darkness took them over. The only remaining source of light coming from the person who was sitting in front of me. His blinding white light from the ceiling aimed down at his lap.
He was an important man, dressed in a suit and seemed to be frantically working, as if a deadline was due the second he came back to reality. I knew his pain. Pleasing others by slaving over work, staying up until the wee hours of the early morning to get things finished, in perfect, unmatched quality, only to be greeted by more work. It's like he could never get a break.
I looked down at my lap, my still damp shorts making my legs cold as they tried to dry off. I was tempted to ask the stewardess for a pillow, but soon realized that I could lean against the formable head rest. I knew once I stepped back into ground that I would need to start working.
I faced the window, now peering into a deep dark abyss. A void needed to be filled.
First version of “Into the Void”, a series of audiovisual installations exploring physical structures creating light and shadows with immersive audiovisual spaces.
Project Page: visiophone-lab.com/wp/?portfolio=into-the-void
A array of triangles is placed on the floor, each one has a LED strip on the back which are connected to an Arduino. On MAX, series of random numbers generators and different probabilities trigger a signal to each triangle, making it turn on or off. Max communicates with the Arduino through Maxuino.
At the same time that a triangle is triggered a MIDI message is sent to Ableton Live and plays notes on a MIDI Instrument and an OSC message is sent to Processing for the Visual output.
Following versions will explore new possibilities as different shapes and materials, and interactions with the visitors through sensors.

The space to my immediate right is void.
The indent where you once lay.
The abscence of a presence beside me.
The warmth, no longer.
Cling to myself for my own body heat.
The void where you once were.
Look at the world through a screen
Where you once lay.
Beside.
Nothing in the world is clearer than before.
Rose colored glasses green with envy.
Brushing my leg against yours while we slept.
Somtimes I still reach for you in the dark.
Only the void remains.

"Noon rings out. A wasp, making an ominous sound, a sound akin to a klaxon or a tocsin, flits about. Augustus, who has had a bad night, sits up blinking and purblind. Oh what was that word (is his thought) that ran through my brain all night, that idiotic word that, hard as I'd try to pun it down, was always just an inch or two out of my grasp - fowl or foul or Vow or Voyal? - a word which, by association, brought into play an incongruous mass and magma of nouns, idioms, slogans and sayings, a confusing, amorphous outpouring which I sought in vain to control or turn off but which wound around my mind a whirlwind of a cord, a whiplash of a cord, a cord that would split again and again, would knit again and again, of words without communication or any possibility of combination, words without pronunciation, signification or transcription but out of which, notwithstanding, was brought forth a flux, a continuous, compact and lucid flow: an intuition, a vacillating frisson of illumination as if caught in a flash of lightning or in a mist abruptly rising to unshroud an obvious sign - but a sign, alas, that would last an instant only to vanish for good."
Georges Perec Excerpt
From "A Void", a novel which doesn't have the letter e in it.
Perec lost his mother in the Holocaust. A Void is precisely about the difficulty of speaking in the absence of the most necessary thing. Not merely an intellectual tour de force -- although certainly that -- but one of the most subtle things ever written on grief.
