► Les cabanes ostréicoles DU PORT DU CHÂTEAU D'OLÉRON sont devenues un atout touristique.
Repeintes, retapées, elles ont pour la plupart oublié leur vocation huîtrière...
► Des artistes de toute sorte les occupent et proposent aux touristes leurs créations. UN PONT TRÈS FRÉQUENTÉ passe au milieu de ce quartier multicolore et vivant en été.
► Ce pont s'appelait "LE PONT VERT" jusqu'au jour où un collectif d'artisans et d'artistes a eu l'idée de lui donner un pouvoir magique, celui de réaliser les rêves de ceux qui passant par là, y accrocheraient une coquille d'huître sur laquelle ils auraient écrit leurs désirs.
Il devint alors alors "LE PONT DES RÊVES".

Le colline argillose, brulle e dolcemente ondulate; l'agrivillage “Le Volpaie”; i ruderi delle masserie “La Boldria” e “La Mestola” con i “Tondi dello Staccioli”; le nebbie e i fumi degli stabilimenti delle Saline, piccolo centro industriale/industrioso nel comune di Volterra.
Laggiù, nel fondovalle dell'austera città etrusca che, dall'alto del colle e con un certo distacco, tollera appena la vista dei segni di quelle attività produttive estranee alla vocazione turistico-culturale su cui poggia l'economia cittadina, basato oggi prevalentemente su attività di ristorazione stagionale e servizi connessi.

Down there, in the valley floor of the austere Etruscan city which, from the top of the hill and with a certain detachment, barely tolerates the sight of the signs of those productive activities extraneous to the tourist-cultural vocation on which the city's economy is based, today based mainly on seasonal catering activities and related services.

One of the many occupational hazards that I come across from time to time when I'm out in nature are dangerous creatures like this Crocodile.
There I was, happily walking along the stream and whoooaaahhhh there it was!
Luckily for me it was of the friendly variety and even agreed to me balancing a few stones on it's snout and giving it a pine cone headdress, as long as it got a feature on Flickr.
So here we are. I lived to tell the tale and post the photo. Phew!

There will be grief in all this. There will be love in all this. There will thus be knowledge: we will be engaged in the true, image-bearing ‘natural theology’. Those who discern the dawn must awaken the world.

Made up of narrow houses leading down to the port, it is topped by an old abbey and a medieval citadel. A former maritime district, then the arrival of the "sea baths" railway, the city was transformed during the 19th century. The town has a marina and a declining fishing port. (2510 inhabitants).
