It was a challenge to take visual notes of this 90-minute online talk by Matthieu Kleinschmager on "How to organise online meetings for better participation and results". Matthieu offered so much information, tips, and anecdotes during the session. He repeatedly stressed the importance of being first meaningful and purposeful, then to look at tools. I cannot agree more!

This is my attempt to capture the essence of the talk with digital visual notes.

Temple Grandin’s talk just went online, one of my favorites.

She talks about her autistic mind — how she thinks in pictures and sees how an animal sees, unfettered by language. With this cognitive empathy, she has designed new cattle-handling facilities, through which most of U.S. cattle now pass.

In watching her talk, it might help to know that PETA gave her an award stating:

“She is widely considered the world’s leading expert on the welfare of cattle and pigs.”

Oh, and she is a bit of a rain-woman star herself: HBO Trailer

“If by some magic, autism had been eradicated from the face of the earth, then men would still be socializing in front of a wood fire at the entrance to a cave. Who do you think made the first stone spears?? It was some Asperger guy, and it you were to get rid of all the autism genetics, there would be no Silicon Valley, and the energy crisis won’t be solved.”

“Normal minds ignore details.”

“Language covers up the visual thinking we share with animals.”

“We make good stage actors, learning social skills like in a play.”

Discovering means, for me, going towards the unknown or hidden part of the territory map to discover the world, ditto for my map of knowledge, competencies, possibilities, etc.

The inktober challenge is very simple. Just draw the prompt of the day in ink and publish it using the inktober hashtags. After a few years where I passed my turn, I am trying this 2024 edition even though it will be a month full of activities and commitments. I chose the free-style of the continuous line to represent the prompt, without fuss or colors.

I hope you like it!

Day 26 of #inktober - prompt: Camera

What’s better than drawing (with one continuous line) my good old Canon camera? It reminds me that I should take it out of its box more often instead of taking pictures with my cell phone.

To use this route map overlay it on any terrain thou wishes squire, your own notebook pages, maps etc. Then visually think and elicit thoust own topographic connections and routes.

It is quite a conceptual abstract notion to take the visual direction of my thoughts on page(s), the journey of my investigation on the terrain of thoughts and utilise this route with alternative content/terrain.

Really like the abstract/organic lines mixed with geometric shapes bringing a bit of order to my thoughts (chaos)

Drawing of a inner vision of my life.

Making a map of the current state according to all elements, energy, processes, goals.

Part of a coaching workshop with focus on business, work, personal success.

It could be used as a navigational tool, for visualizing, getting feedback, even for transforming, developing the personal future.

It was inspiring, fun and much thought provoking for personal development... :-)

So - as I got many answers and even many new questions on it - what is your impression about it? I would like to enjoy your feedback as well, if you like!

I read in the train this Leandro Herrero's article on the three models of change and to better remember it I sketched it. In a nutshell, the article rightly says that traditional change management, the destination model, is often just a one–off. The journey model is about learning and experience. And the building model is about creating a long term culture with change-ability in the org DNA.

Day 31 of #inktober - prompt: Landmark

Landmarks can have several symbolic representations, as embodying collective memory, symbolising a past, or serve as gathering points, grounding a community’s sense of self, symbolising shared purpose, a place where community members come together for collective experience. It’s what I wanted to draw in this last prompt for what the “Inktober” landmark represents to me. I therefore express my great gratitude to @inktober organisers of this collective experience, and to all participants- known or unknown- with whom I interacted during this month of October 2024.

A fantastic talk by Christopher Watkin on Michel Serres' Great Story. "Nature tells its own story, we are in the middle of it and sharing it. We are co-authors and co-responsible of this meso-narrative". Brilliant! I am a fan of Michel Serres, this talk transported me with joy. These are my visual notes.

Thank you to my colleagues of the European School of Administration - EuSA for organising these great online Talks.

Day 29 of #inktober - prompt : Navigator

Design Thinking as a process from present state to desired state as considered by KarlssonWilker (2 of 2).

Way back in 2005, Mister Jalopy proposed an Owner's Bill of Rights, a maker's memorandum requesting repairability for the products around us.

It became a manifesto for the maker community, a modus operandi for open sourcers and forward-thinking manufacturers.

Today I present: The Maker's Bill of Rights: Illustrated

A visual thinker uses the visual approach mainly during live events to allow participants to anchor information, find patterns, make ideas visible, establish connections and relationships between ideas, and to ultimately make sense out of chaos or complexity.
