Yay, I learned how to spin some funky coil handspun today with the guidance of the DVD Sit and Spin (of Insubordiknits/Jacey Boggs). For those who don't spin, this is what's considered novelty or art yarn. I've always wanted to learn how to do coils. They just look so squishy and bubbly. Ahhhh texture!
I figured today I would expand some of my horizons and learn something new. This was a lot of fun but definitely challenging for someone who's learned and aimed to spin something that is even and consistent in thickness during the last six months. Now the rules have changed a bit.
As photography lovers and photographers, there are times when we lose our inspiration or just get stuck in a rut. With anything creative, it's bound to happen. Learning this new technique, reminded me of how much it is important to change things up once in a while (I get so used to routine) and to keep learning. Keeps things fresh and fun.
Photographing, in other words catching some light, isn't that easy these days. Rain, hail, snow and big dark clouds keep us company here on the isle. I just keep working on my Fragility ledger ...no better way to use my time ... :-)
This will be a strip of stem stitch and bullion loops with a lucet cord in it. It is a slow process but it looks promising to me ... :-)
Enjoy the start of your week!
The Colorado Bridge was the final destination of the Los Angeles Group's Flickrmeet led by John (CaliforniaCPA). It was a really nice turn out with lots of new faces to the group and old ones too. We did a short hike of the bridge's underpass and then walked up to try to catch the sunset-which we sorta missed but I know some folks got some great long exposures.
I like this shot because I caught part of the bus while it whizzed through my shot. You can only see a bit of the red blur on the right side. Cool! :-)
I place myself among the clouds — not above, but elsewhere. I show the way I see, quietly. You look away, and that too is part of the story. This image doesn’t shout. It’s one of many that represent who I am.
For some time now this project is on its way. I have been collecting precious vintage handmade/embroidered textiles. Last week I was gifted 6 big pieces of handwoven linen with different patterns.
The linen is now used to make a book in which my collection will be mounted.
This is still very much a work in progress.
A detail photo from the book called The unknown maker. In the photo you see some handmade lace. The strip of lace was sewed with tiny stitches to the linen page.
save the tip portion of your basil plant. stick them in water for 3-4 days and roots will develop. stick them in potting soil and you have more basil plant.
Today I made a long video for the first time. If you like to embroider, I invite you to stitch along with me.

Today we were here and it was absolutely amazing. When the doors opened and we stepped into the great hall my eyes started tearing. I have no words to describe my feelings for this day...
