Texture is the most enduring and ubiquitous underpinning of form... certainly a calming, meditative and appealing world for both the eye and mind.
A quote of Lynda Lehmann
This is hiding under the sea of blue, the photo I shared yesterday with you. One of the final ideas that is gonna live in my Big Blue Book. For me this one is special since it is the first time that I did a herringbone stitch with bullion knots with a strip of knitting tucked under it.
"Reflex Revival: The First Shot Back"
This image marks a return to photography through the eye of a real lens. Taken with a phone, it captures the moment I held my Nikon again, with my reflection sealed inside the lens—like a quiet promise to start seeing again. It’s raw, imperfect, but true: the beginning of a new visual story.
A new visual diary for 2022.As some of you know ,every year I embrace this project of doing one visual diary, doing a little illustration or collage each day. Nothing much, but at same time everything. We must treasure the little things
Started stitching on another canvas. Whether or not it will become a blanket I don't know. This time there will be circles which leaves more open space. But there is only one way to find out and that is make it!
Cowls aren't really well known outside the knitting world. I believe they're called something else but I've never really known anyone to wear one other than other knitters (and maybe skiers/snowboarders). I believe it's the best invention ever. Better than a scarf in my opinion because there no loose ends that get tangled like with regular scarves. I love that you can tuck them away in your coat but it'll still keep you cosy. They're quick knits..scarfs tend to get boring . And they're great for California's mild winters and maybe even colder ones as a base layer.
I knit this cowl out of my own handspun (from Funky Carolina's handspun). The merino was sooooo soft and knit up, is wonderful against the skin. I started this cowl when I moved and finally got around to finishing up this week. It's keeping me warm during our recent chilly nights. Hooray for cosy cowls!
Last night after coloring in with water color pencils I washed the coloring with a wet brush ... what a difference it makes ... feels like magic ... :-))
The year is ending and also my visual diary is in the final pages. All the days, I like to do a little drawing, collage or illustration to mark the days. This year I had a beautiful diary from Finland , it was a gift from my dear friend Sandra.
2020 was very strange and very different from everything we experienced in the past. Part of the year was spending at home. And here I'm, again, in my window to close this year.
With hope I embrace 2021. A new visual diary is ready.
The embroidered piece of cloth was planned to become part of the bag in which this ledger will live. Changed my mind and added it on the last blue page. Now it will live a protected life as well ... :-))
Enjoy your weekend!
As soon as one pattern is done, another one is waiting for me.
This time it will be a little bit different in the sense that the drawing and the embroidery piece will be the same pattern.
This pattern is from 1909.
Two pictures today, one with shadows and one without. Hope to hear what you like best ... Enjoy your summer!
"Discovering new worlds will not only
bring you happiness and wisdom,
but also sadness and fear.
How could you value happiness
without knowing what sadness is?
How could you achieve wisdom
without facing your own fears?
In the end, the great challenge in life
is to overcome
the limits within yourself,
pushing them to places you would never
have dreamed they could go."
-Inspiration and Hope from The Dolphin
To create the next page I need 7 embellished strips of paper, 4 cm x 19 cm. They didn't seem so large and so I thought, this is going to be a quick page. Ha, leave it to me to make it time consuming. This strip has 4 rows of chainstitch, 78 bullion knots of 25 wraps and a piece of lucet cord, of course all done in wool.
